On behalf of the upcoming Mission Creek Oakland Music and Arts Festival ( www.mcofest.org), organizer Kiyomi Tanouye and I were thinking to include fellow local community organizations to publicize during the MCO campaign of opportunities to learn methods of making art and music. The festival is throughout the month of September, publicized and sponsored by the East Bay Express. If any of the talented and knowledgeable at Sudo Room were interested in hosting or coming over to RPSC to teach circuit bending tricks, we'd be happy to plug Sudo Room into the campaign! Elcano: An Open Source Ultralight Automated Vehicle

All contributions are appreciated. Can you help us out either financially or technically? One of the goal is to keep the cost down to under $5,000. Our kit will also fit on an RC car, which saves $2,000 on vehicle cost and $500 on actuators. The prototype is a drive-by-wire recumbent tricycle: legally a bicycle, so no hassle with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). And yes, all of our work is open source including the softwares and the electronics schematics. We’re extremely excited about the release of our kits and hope you can help us spread the word. We have already built the low level control module, which isolates vehicle specific functions. We also have a design for a module of five sonar range finders. Future modules will handle the operator interface and connect to a PC based simulator. Interested in working with teens?

Hey Sudoers! We've had a surge of young people coming by the space who're learning to program (including interest in collaboration from the Oakland Public Library TeenZones, below), and it would be awesome to start a youth programming meetup. Anyone interested in working with teens and teaching programming? Most likely they would self-organize and help each other learn, so it would really be more a matter of holding the space, setting up some communication channels and showing up on a regular basis :) Alt ideas for collaboration welcome and encouraged! Announcing SUMMER SCHOOL 2013 + CALL for Sudo Room Participation ! [from your friends at the Public School!]

Dear Sudo Folks : My name is David Brazil -- I work with the Bay Area Public School -- & I am psyched to announce that the School will be putting on SUMMER SCHOOL 2013 from August 26 through September 1 at the 2141 Broadway space. (Save the dates!) SUMMER SCHOOL is the second installment of a project that began in 2012 -- it's a week-long extravaganza of events, talks, performances, and free food. Each day is convened around "Studying" a certain subject or theme -- to wit : mon.: studying food. tue. : studying bodies. wed. : studying language. thu. studying crisis. fri. studying race. sat. studying information. sun. studying studying (a daylong session on education). We're particularly excited to make SUMMER SCHOOL an occasion for Public School / Sudo Room crossover, & we had the idea to invite folks from Sudo to propose short talks or presentations for the day on 'information' (considered very broadly). We envision the program running from 12noon to 6pm, and breaking down into three 2-hour segments, loosely organized around topics. Subjects could include anything from classes on math, science & computing to the politics of cryptography, projects for an alternative internet, -- really, anything you'd like a lot of people to hear about ! The Public School is so glad to be neighbors with Sudo Room & we really want the SUMMER SCHOOL to be an occasion for us all to work together on an exciting project.
