Hi Johnny, Is it true that Lesley's has a temporary restraining order against you? That seems to rise above mere "gossip and accusations", and seems like it would be substantial enough to trigger at least a temporary ban. Also, it's the nature of interpersonal conflicts that there may not be any more than "accusations" available to make a decision on. So if someone states that they feel unsafe around another person, it may be justified to remove that other person from the space at least temporarily, until a better informed decision can be reached. johnny ban / process?

apparently at the meeting last week, Johnny was banned for Safe-Space reasons, but nobody informed him about this. Earlier tonight, he asked if I would be at sudoroom tonight and i said yes, and so he brought his project to work on, but he was stopped at the door by someone who knew about the ban. He asked for me and I spent the next hour trying to sort through the mediation process and the complexities of this particular situation. In the future, when people are banned at a meeting it's important that someone makes an effort to contact someone who is being banned to let them know, and to inform them of how to participate in the mediation process. To do otherwise discredits our important conflict resolution process and disregards the basic rights of the accused. In this case Johnny can be easily reached by email, and is included in this message. Johnny expressed a desire to participate in mediation as soon as possible, since he is banned from the space until its conclusion. He is also dealing with eviction from his home right now so this is frustrating for him, especially since he only found out about it after arriving at Omni to work on a project. is anyone stepping up to be a conflict steward and/or neutral mediator? thanks -jake

Any web developers new to the game at SudoRoom?

I know a cool young lady who happens to have an awesome kid! She completed one of those developer bootcamps and is looking for a job. I feel guilty because I know nothing about the web development industry for boot camp graduates- I know people will have many good and bad things to say about boot camps or the development industry! Anyway, I met a lot of nice people who were doing javascript workshops .Are these still going on? I keep sending her to these nice but ultimately not very helpful for getting a job or becoming great at programming all women events that are sponsored by tech companies. ( These events are cool once in a while and are a great way for men to show support, but going only to all women events could handicap her IMHO. For beginners they are nice and augment networking but should not replace it - She needs more than inspirational talks, she needs mentorship and technical schools and connections) Are there other boot camp graduates who are interested in hanging out ? Could Facebook's OpenCellular be used in open mesh networks?

Hi, is anyone trracking Facebook and their OpenCellular project ? To me this looks like re-implementation OpenBTS but as software defined radio. If you missed announcement from Facebook: https://code.facebook.com/posts/1754757044806180/introducing-opencellular-a… If Facebook releases this platform as open hardware this could be interesting platform for open mesh networks... Facebook approach is to use software defined radio and so far they got 2G working but they plan to have everything from 2G to LTE and Wifi done in SDR. Looks like a really interesting project... if anyone has some info please share because their press release is quite sparse with any concrete info... Cheers.

Hi! I've been a CS nerd/web dev for many years, but I'd also say I'm "new to the game". This is "a whole different ballgame" to what I'm used to from past experience. I have spent the last year of my life learning JavaScript. Several weeks ago, I graduated from Telegraph Academy, Hack Reactor Core's East Bay school (anyone can attend who passes the rigorous selection process, but it's targeted at underrepresented minorities in the software engineering industry- women and people of color). During the course of my search for a full time job, I'm going to a ton of similar events and working on various projects. Always happy to connect! Regarding open source projects, that is great advice. My favorite open source project right now is SudoMesh! We are working on a UI right now, with all kinds of things to do. development of new wordpress site for omnicommons.org

Hey all, I've been working on https://omnicommons.org/blog as a replacement to omnicommons.org and seeing how far we can go to simplify our lives in that regard. I'm not married to any of the content, and most of the style. This theme is selected because it's a really simple mobile-oriented genesis-based (therefore super-fast-loading) child theme. I'd be down to style it out a lot or just a little to move us forward. Events Manager and the ESS feed are not working, so that's got to end. This is the most promising event plugin I've found so far: http://www.e-dynamics.be/wordpress/?cat=33 I love it! However, the "frontend submit" form plugin (an extension to the basic eme plugin) leaves something to be desired. See here how we can customize it a bit: https://wordpress.org/plugins/events-made-easy-frontend-submit/faq/ Attached is a form template I started working on, but that doesn't quite implement the drop-down menu for locations properly (locations do not get successfully saved). If anyone has bandwidth, I could use a hand fixing up a better custom form that especially can: - Restrict locations to those pre-defined in wordpress and made available as a drop-down menu on the front end. - Allow for submitting recurring event requests (only single works right now as far as I can tell, but the admin event add forms allow for recurrence) - Adds the additional fields necessary to successfully replace our current booking form. LMK if anyone wants to meet up to hack on this.
