as i am on a temp hiatus from enforcing our building policy until i feel i
am being supported in same, i declined to wake, ian moon (non-member), or
ask him to leave when i found him sleeping in backspace this morning.
matt, kelley & brenden were in sudoroom when i left last night. not sure if
he was allowed to stay somehow or if he just got back in...upstairs corner
window (by til) was open and ppl know how to climb in.
whoever closes the building needs to remember to close the window too.
btw, shattuck door was open this morning but it was the first time in days
that i found the shattuck door or the discoroom door open which is actually
very good news

Hi I was in the space last night (Friday) on the tail end of the Linux
install fest fridays.Lately fridays have been kind of dead. I think
Thursday is our most happening night, and usually the Omni is pretty empty
on Friday.
There were some cool guests dropping by, and from what i heard they were
ready to go, but they seemed let down by the lack of people and activity. i
don't think they said it out loud.
I'm wondering: what do you think? Should we move installfest to the
Thursday party night? that might also interfere with the javascript evening.
Or should we rephrase the Friday night expectations so that people don't
expect it to be this organized, orderly event? I think the thursdays are
more of a hangout night, and there are other groups there Thursday but
Friday not so much.
I'm fine going there and hacking in peace and quiet. But I don't want
people to leave disappointed.

we the people,
I don't know, I don't have the time or skill set to be involved in this. If
you're willing to lead this effort, could you take care of all these
details? Could you volunteer so they stop sending me these requests?
I think it'd be cool if a man handled any child-related stuff. All too
often I see hackerspaces or community groups dump all this work on women,
even women who aren't suited for it. (sort of how usually women end up
doing the secretarial work and cooking)
Best,
Romy

Romy,
Do we have a regular batch of girls who want this?
What are their ages and interests--what are they asking for?
What about cost of supplies--are parents willing to cover this?

I couldn't for the life of me find a proper set of keyboard keys on the
interwhoo last night.
So here's what seems to be the world's first set of open source keys. I
built it to emulate the black keys on a Hammond b-3 (midi controller coming
soon) but I'm sure someone here will find another use for this.

The key to mastering any skill is nothing more than passion and
persistence.
Our PA fell through and we are in desperate need of a PA for the 8 bands
that are playing. Is there one at the omni we can borrow for friday night
only?
Hey all,
Has anyone seen a box (or multiple boxes) containing groups of the items in
the subject of this message?
I had been collecting and storing PC components at the blue table in the
middle of sudo room (pc repair station), including cables, PCI cards (e.g.
video and sound cards), as well as sticks of RAM (new and old ones--useful
for repairs). There were also several hard drives (mostly older IDE drives)
on the metal shelves along the south wall in sudo room.
Has anyone seen these items or know where they may have ended up?
Bummed,
Matt
It's neither my skill set nor my specialty so if someone is good at this could they do this once or twice every two months ? Hopefully not anything horrible like teaching girls how to build electronics with jewelry only or anything else beauty based and hopefully not with this awful girl specific pink you crap I see flooding the market .
I simply cannot do it because my time is limited

The theme of tonight's meeting is:
Turtles (how do they do that trick where their head retracts? I mean what
happens to their spines? How can they shorten their spines? Is it like a
harmonica? No that can't be right IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE)

I'd like to use small mp3 or wav files that creative SudoRoom people have
made. I'd like to use this in simple modules - for example I'm adding some
code I saw on the web to SudoRoom that let's us scan QR codes. When you
finish scanning it should say "beep!" to show you're done.

I'm starting with a QR code reader module
https://github.com/romyilano/SudoQR-Code-Reader
It is pretty simple to do this and there are lots of samples online. I'll
just go through and make one for SudoRoom with a SudoRoom logo
- I hope to make this reusable by anyone wishing to involve iOS in their
projects.
- eventually want to mode this to Swift since that'll be open source by
the end of the year
- Hope to rely on native APIs a much as possible, avoiding too many open
source frameworks
- I am sure there are tons of "freemium" and "open source" projects that
already use QR codes out there but we need our own, and it's not that hard.
If everyone is ok with this, after I show them, I hope to move stuff like
this tot he SudoRoom Github! I would like any github code to fit SudoRoom
culture as much as possible

Hi, I messed up 2 screencasts this weekend but you can learn from my
mistakes!
I tried to do a Domestic Violence Node.js command line terminal screenshare
on Google hangouts and then upload the recording to Youtube for Posterity.
It didn't work out - I got confused
the solution:
If you are going to use googlehangouts you should remember to select *Google
Hangouts ON AIR instead of *Google Video Hangout
*https://plus.google.com/hangouts/onair
*This will *automatically upload your hangout / screencast to your YouTube
channel, which you can then edit .

Today sudo room got a donation of a nice fridge.
We set it up as a sudo/ccl drinks and snacks fridge with donation based
"purchases".
For now the donation jar is just an open box inside the fridge. I suggest
we just split the donations 50/50 between sudo and ccl and that we set up a
lockable donation box (someone please do this).
I will be adding an account system that we developed at the Labitat
hackerspace where all members can buy items by sliding their card and
scanning an item's barcode. In the longer term I will add a bill acceptor
and credit card payments.
I went to safeway and got a bunch of the safeway brand carbonated water and
a bit of their soda. I personally would like us to sell nice
healthy/ethical things, but that was what I could get on short notice and I
felt like it was better than nothing.
I have set up a whole-sale account with Guayaki and will attempt to order
some mate drinks.
What other kinds of drinks/snacks do you humans want to see in the long
term?

Hi check out the link : Rps collective needs help packing and moving as they've been evicted because Oakland is changing
This would be a great opportunity to create cool relationships with them . Just like us they are overworked exhausted volunteers
They do youth education in a non superficial non cheesy way that imo is tough to pull off. It's not our skill set so it'd be cool to conduct collaborations with them.
They are cool and any partnership would be awesome

This AM I was told by Rob that the package had arrived, and that someone
gave it to him while he was at the stage.
He left and when he came back the package was missing.
Have you see the package? or perhaps you saw my name on it and put it away
somewhere?
Please let me or Ryan know via this list or direct message.
Many thanks,
Daniel
