there have been members whose windows have been smashed - my first
suggestion is to tell guests to park on the opposite side of Telegraph in
the more ritzy residential neighborhood and walk 10-15 minutes
have people had luck in the Macarthur bart parking structure
how about parking by the piedmont police dept and then taking a rideshare
or bikeshare?
I have a guest who's coming who is driving all the way from Sonoma!

Hi Sudoers:
This week we have one person (Lily) signed up with a bunch of stuff (see
https://bit.ly/itemcheckins) and we typically get lots of walk-ins too.
Typically on Tuesdays we have lots of new people visiting the space and
it can be intimidating if you don't know anyone and don't know where to
go and what to do.
So can someone try to arrive early say, 7:30 or so to greet people for
Sudoroom or sewing downstairs in the Media Lab and get them started on
their projects?
Extra Credit: 1) confirm that the VOIP phone number 442-252-8386 is
working by dialing it 2) put the Fixit Clinic sandwich sign out on the
sidewalk.
Many thanks, -Peter
Due to funding there are no good science museums in the Bay Area or California in general that are fun for adults! They are mostly geared to kids and parents for some reason
I propose we create mini science exhibits aimed at people 18 and above! Let’s create the science museum exhibit that is not geared for teaching kids’ let’s make it as complex or simple as we want it to be … just make it for adults !
https://sudoroom.org/events/make-xr-in-person-workshop/
A short, sweet early evening “let’s make augmented reality, virtual reality
and more” with VisionPro, open source headsets, quest, webXR etc. at the
SudoRoom Hackerspace!
- If you simply must use social, sign up at https://lu.ma/50veey96
We promise you there will be no slides you have to sit through. We will
have whiteboards and chalkboards to shake things up with your virtual
reality!
This will be an in-person event only, not remote!
- For adults only, 18 and over!

This evening we'll have a cool guest, Jade, who will talk about some fun
advanced topics on the *Rust Programming Language* with our wonderful
speaker Jade, a passionate Rust enthusiast!
On RUST
This evening we'll do a deep dive on* algebraic data types*! ADTs are a hot
new computer science concept *("new" == from the '90s )* which Rust uses to
make its representation of data...
*Plan for the evening:*
*T*alk about the theory of algebraic data types (struct as product, tagged
enum as sum)
Visual learning for basic sum types (Option and Result)
Let's put it into practice! Group design effort for a Result for an example
application.
We guarantee it will be fun even if you aren't a big rust programmer.
See https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Rust <https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Rust>
*also:** You can also hack on stuff like audio sound engineering, sewing,
or other cool things during and after the talk! You don't have to code
because this is the hack night not the "coding only" night!*

About Us
The Sudo Room, a creative community and hackerspace at Omni Commons,
invites all Women/NB people for “WNB Coding/Hacking Night”: bring your
computer and a coding project and have fun! We can help each other if you
have coding/hacking-related questions/bugs or just keep company while
hacking! If you are a beginner, we can help you get started (even if you’ve
never coded before!). And if you’re an intermediate programmer looking for
a challenge, we can help you find problems to work on.
No computer? No problem: we can provide one for the night. Coders/Hackers
of all abilities are welcome! All coding languages are welcome! Bringing a
WNB friend is highly recommended. Join in person if you’re in Oakland
Every Monday from 7pm to 9pm Pacific Time
Sudo Room at Omni Commons
4799 Shattuck Avenue – Oakland
Ring the bell when you get to the door (at the corner of 48th and shattuck)
and someone will open for you.

The meetup.com page is costing $45 a month... not sure how useful it is
compared to lu.ma, which most other meetups are switching to. What do you
guys think? I'm probably going to turn off the meetup.com page and go
there, in the bay area it's all lu.ma lately since they have a free tier.
we should be putting our main meetup stuff on our wordpress blog and not
rely on a platform...

Hi! I created an account on the humans subdomain as "plasticbugs" on June 4th of this year to set up a recurring membership donation. I'm not able to log into the humans portal with my saved credentials (from 1password) and am not getting a password reset using my email address or my username. Is someone on this list able to help me recover my account? TIA!

In the tradition of Matt Senate's morning math, I'm starting a morning
session, quick and easy, of morning math in-person at the Sudoroom Tuesday
morning 7/16 7-7:45am.
I probably won't make it online, but it's a possibility!
Event will be bring your own coffee, kept drama free, with as little
screentime as possible, only using the whiteboards if we can and no
laptops.

I haven't contacted them but it looks like this circuit board manufacturer is
willing to make boards for us in exchange for "promotion"
if the promotion is as simple as putting the fact that they donated production
of the circuit boards onto the circuit boards, maybe we can design a board,
like a musical badge or something, that people can build at sudoroom

During the Depression era the government funded journalists, artists and
photographers etc. to document how americans ate at the time. One of the
things they noted was the community cookbook, which was a book of community
recipes that were gathered and published, its proceeds donated to a charity.
https://whatamericaate.org/single.essay.php?kid=164-593-1
Do we have a kind of cookbook? Why don't we assemble one. The recipes don't
have to be for food. It can also be "If you want to make the 1980s robot at
SudoRoom work you have to kick it several times"
=D we could put it up on gumroad

person, so we can meet in the basement meeting room, or maybe at sudo

Should there be a faq on tours on the front page of our site with a fill out form?
We should also make a page “how SudoRoom is good and a potential site for educators “ - I’ll try to get on it!!!
SudoRoom overs a unique tactile experience and get kids and adults off screens and phones which parents are paying top dollar for nowadays 🤪🙈

we'd like to connect with #hackerspace
<https://x.com/hashtag/hackerspace?src=hashtag_click> in dense urban world
cities with great culture - know some folks in Tokyo, Berlin. Any folks in
London or Paris? Beijing?
Going forward I'd like to concentrate any "remote" efforts on reaching
folks who are - not in their houses - part of a cool hackerspace - in a
world city with public transportation such as Mexico City, Tokyo, London,
paris.
Do you know any?
