Hi all.. I know there hasn't been much activity on this thread, but I was wondering if I could up the ante. Because sometimes, life's just like that. Would we (sudo) be willing to entirely host this event? Without BAPS.. I ask because the event's organizers would really like for there to be a simple donation box somewhere off to the side in the space, for folks to be able to donate directly at the event. This money would go to Oakland's Anti-Repression Committee and National Lawyer Guild's Legal Workers (the non-lawyer workforce part of the NLG). Within BAPS, there has emerged some reservation amongst organizers that having any other group (that is not BAPS) accept donations at an event BAPS hosts, might abrogate our statement of financial principles that there be no solicitation at the event. There's a confusion here that can't work itself out until our next general meeting at the earliest, which isn't for a while, and in the meantime.. the event needs to be promoted and have a home that is assured. So having Sudo solely host this event instead of BAPS, would solve a real headache for us. Are we down for this? laptop swap

Wednesday evening (Jan. 29) in the vicinity of 530pm (PST) I swapped my unworking Dell Latitude D531 laptop for an even older, yet reportedly functional Dell laptop with a gentleman whose name I was told, & promptly forgot. I wanted to inquire, since I was unable to come back to SR Wednesday night after my Spanish class as I had originally promised, whether said gentleman was able to get the D531 working, & also to let him know that I left a dock intended for use with said laptop in the Sudo Room closet Thursday afternoon. Or, rather my friend Carl left it there as I had to leave that morning before anyone w/ a key arrived to open the back hack-chamber. Hello all- Is anyone interested in more brain-control hacking on McHawking (or wheelchairs in general) on February 22nd? Emotiv is hosting a hackathon specifically for EEG control of wheelchair, to benefit a young man in Malaysia, named Albert Wong. Venture Beat has even covered it: http://venturebeat.com/2014/01/20/wearables-with-a-purpose-emotiv-rallies-t… We've been getting contacted a few times about it and are hoping to attend. Sudoers, Some of you use the Sudo 3D printer. We got a line on some reasonably priced ABS--1 pound spools for $13.50 each. These are the smaller spools, not the big 2 pounders. We have LOTS of colors, so if you're interested just ask and we'll see if we have it. We've tested the natural and it's pretty nice, strong. Data Privacy Legal Hackathon, Feb 8-9 in SF

Hi Sudoers, I wanted to share info with you about the Data Privacy Legal Hackathon, which is happening NEXT WEEKEND, Feb. 8-9, locally in San Francisco at the Mozilla offices on Embarcadero. The entire hackathon has three locations: SF, NYC and London, all with the same format. In San Francisco we need hackers, makers, engineers, legal scholars, and product folks interested in privacy and personal data issues to participate in whatever way you'd like to. If you have an idea or want to join an existing project team, that would be great! We also need mentors for teams (smaller time commitment), or join us for presentations and prizes at the end Sunday, from 4-6pm. Did we mention that there are prizes? …and that we're looking for hackers, coders, and UI designers, among others? The aim of this announcement is to fire up a call to action to legally hack data privacy. We all know it's past time to collaborate and start doing something about the state of privacy and personal data, including the notice and consent work that some of our groups propose. As part of this project, Open Notice is sponsoring a pre-hackathon project to create a Legal Map for hackers to use at the event. Hey Ali, I'm skeptical given the lack of cited references that can help us determine if there are detrimental elements or aspects worth further investigation of this new vanilla. I will say I have great respect for some of the work of Friends of the Earth (we can also thank them for our board room table, wall-mounted steel cabinets and a few other items of furniture that Tracy, Marina, and my brother retrieved), and if Patrik's assessment is true, I would be very much inclined to get back in touch with them and help build a better pipeline for assessing the environmental threats and impacts of new technology developments and corporate maneuvers. This being said, I would be more inclined to engage in creative work as resistance of: (A) Proprietary, exclusive knowledge of the building blocks and patterns of life. (B) An exploitative practice that directly and negatively affects workers. (C) An unfair abuse of the commons. (D) The use of genetic modification to fuel industrial farming that limits biodiversity, maintains corporate exclusive rights regimes (enforced in the courts), and introduces large-scale changes in the practice of agriculture. oh no romy that sucks! well, people used to use prosthetic legs which were basically a lower leg that you kneel on top of. so picture an upside-down L and your bad leg is bent at the knee 90 degrees. your lower leg is strapped onto the top part of the upside down L. you put a bunch of padding on the top, and use padding on the back of your calf, and then you can wear it for hours and walk on it just fine. people whose feet or legs were chopped below the knee walked around on such things their whole life. like this: http://gajitz.com/running-start-temporary-prosthetic-for-lower-leg-injuries/
