A group of us Occupy Oaklanders and fellow-travelers would like to have
a meeting at the sudoroom to organize opposition to the Domain Awareness
Center that the $hitty Council unanimously approved funding of last
Tuesday.

We are thinking maybe Wednesday, August 14th at 6 PM. Seems like
Wednesday is one of the less hectic days, I attended the weekly meetup a
couple of weeks ago and it didn't seem too huge, maybe we could nestle
in the quadrilateral of chairs and couches near the entrance to the
sudoroom proper without being unduly burdensome. If it makes our
presence marginally less loathsome I'll bring a 12 pack or so of IPA to
share with the Meetniks. Anyway, if no one objects by tomorrow
afternoon I'll take the liberty of penciling in our meeting on the
sudoroom & OO calendars.

Hey everyone
Just wanted to post here that we'll be continuing the Bioinfomatics series at Sudoroom next sunday (August 11) at 7 p.m. We had several awesome sudoroomers show up and I wanted to let everyone know about it.
We'll be breaking into some genome and gene data and digging a little into biopython to do some sequence extractions. All this will get us started in an open source project to contribute to the glowingplant project.

Dear All,
I just wanted to announce the second Bio-informatics class at Sudo room,
all Sudo'ers interested in getting a deeper understanding of
bio-informatics are welcome to attend.
After the last successful Bio-informatics class with 21 attendees, Ron's
very kindly offered to volunteer again to help teach aspiring digital
biohackers the tricks of the trade :)
Just as a side note, Oakland nights live is currently booking a slot on
Sunday but the text on the booking says that it's on Saturday, so I'm
assuming that it was an incorrect booking date.
Hack on and let Ron or I know if you have any questions :)

We had a wonderful ladder. It was tall, safe, had two sturdy feet. It
said Rachel in blue marker all over it, because it belongs to a sudoer
who let us use it for a long time. It is now missing, just when we
need it for space cleaning. Did any of you take it? Does any of you
know where it might be?
If this got stolen we will be sad.
Hey all-
My name is Steve and was involved in several Brain-Computer
Interface (BCI) hacks on McHawking, the wheelchair robot, back when it
lived at Noisebridge:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Brain-Controlled-Wheelchair/
<http://www.instructables.com/id/Brain-Controlled-Wheelchair/>
About 3-4 of us are banding together over the next several days to
revisit and extend that work. Jake gave a heads up as to its new
location and we're all looking forward to visiting the space (for most
if not all of us it will be our first time there).
I wanted to reach out and make sure we're going about this the
right way, and of course invite anyone else who interested in either
robotics or BCI to join us and get involved. We look to published
whatever we do as open source and will try to update the Sudo Room wiki
(as my quick search and review of the mailing list archives only turned
up last month's introduction).
We're still firming up timing but will probably drop by tomorrow
(Sunday) afternoon and play Monday and Tuesday by ear. Feel free to
message me on or off list if anyone is keen.
Cheers!
Steve
Hey Sudoroom: I made pickles this week and some fancy-looking mold grew
on them. Not good for eating, but a treat for watching, so I thought
you'd all like to see!
It reminds me a bit of an electron micrograph of a growing axon (see
here: http://www.bio.miami.edu/ktosney/images/ResHomSEMgc.jpg)
Bonus points to any of you who can identify the type of fungus (I
haven't been able to yet).
-Jonathan
i normally don't elevate my voice, but it WILL be organizing everything
weekend starting tomorrow morning.
we have already started sorting, identifying, and moving things around.
please come any time tomorrow to move lots of stuff and get sudo room
clean, beautiful, usable, and useful!

Anyone interested in/on hacking in/on the ambulance?
I've got a few projects in mind, chiefly in gearing up for longer trips
outside the bay area (aka: Burning Man), and in the short term getting
around hackerspaces in the bay area to build along the way.
Right now I'm tapped on space and resources, and can only drive short
distance, or not at all, so would be great to find somewhere/someone nearby
to work on some mechanical issues.
I'd also like to double the floor space by adding storage bins and some
sort of pop-up to the roof (ideally made of solar panels) to make more of a
work space, and some sort of ladder to get up to it.
I've also got a 16' flatbed trailer that I can pull, and would be
interested in developing ideas to make that a mobile space as well,
potentially something along the lines of a parkable parklet that could be
moved around.
So if you've got some time, materials or capital get in touch.

Some of MY specific goals for Saturday will be:
* A car-full of e-waste
* Sudoroom's bookshelves cleared of everything but books
* Better use of storage above the radio room
* Better sleeping arrangements for McHawking
* Somehow address that giant wooden arcade enclosure
Some specific infrastructure I'd like to see:
* overhead bike racks in our space behind the elevator
* new shelving units in the walk-in closet
* shelves installed in the telecloset
Some things we've already agreed to build but haven't yet:
* shelf for the door equipment downstairs
hi everyone,
this coming weekend (aug 3-4) will be the weekend of *total
reorganization*at sudo room.
we will be:
- taking every thing out of sudo room
- determining what should go and what should stay
- putting everything back in to sudo room in an arranged way
so please show up bright and early on saturday (i'll be here at 9:30) and
we'll see how far we get on saturday before we see about sunday!
please feel free to get started this week by taking things out of the space
if they are yours and you are no longer using them, determining what you
want to remain in the space, cleaning, and pinging the list about specific
items.

After many a long battles, the yeast has been defeated.
[the power had been pulled from the inside door. the rubber-foreskin that
holds the cables had gone loose, and as a consequence the cable had
released from its conncetion under strain. we reconnected it, retaped it.
and put the doormat over the rubber-foreskin.]
We might have won the battle, but the access-war is ongoing. Ian and yours
truly are regularly putting some hours into improving the spaghetti outside
& and inside the Py. We could use more people with energy and/or expertise
in microcontrollers on the hardware and software side.
Cheers! For the Yeast!
