I don’t know if we could call this marketing, but there are a lot of private venture funded social spaces popping up. Being biased I find ours is much more genuine and interesting.

I just sent a notice to the SF shut up and write group. Our space would be
ideal for this kind of event!
I can also note that we have tons of food in walking distance nearby!
I'm actually pretty busy this month so this wouldn't start for a while, but
let's get the ball rolling

Hey folks - at the SudoRoom hackerspace in Oakland Temescal (next to the
MacArthur BART) we have a lot of creative events. I'd be interested in
hosting an in-person shut up and write alongside an online event. We have
the gear to share to televise the live space.
It's a big creative hackerspace with a sewing / materials workshop
downstairs. There are also robots and electronics equipment as well.
Thursdays, Sundays and Fridays are open

Hi,
I'm a member at Sequoia Fabrica <https://sequoiafabrica.org/>. We recently
opened up our space and I wanted to reach out to see if you have any
projects you are planning to submit for OpenSauce <https://opensauce.com/>
this year. We're looking to partner with Sudo Room if you need any
additional help or resources.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you,

I discovered that there are "hackerspaces for writers" in San Francisco

I go to a lot of "Shut up and Write" events - wouldn't it be cool to bring
the shut up and write folks to SudoRoom?
I'll get on top of this once I get a job, prioritizing coding interviews
and don't have much time lately

Subject: [sudo-info] New maker event in the Bay Area looking for cool projects
I'm Caleb Kraft, you might remember me from the last 10 years at Maker
Faire. I've just left Make to help grow a new event that has a ton of
overlap. You can find it at OpenSauce.com.
Basically, back in 2019 when Maker Faire died for a while, we started
brainstorming what a new event could be, mashing up our favorite parts of
Maker Faire and Vidcon. OpenSauce was born. Tons of maker booths and a
stage packed with folks you will recognize.
We don't have a blog or magazine though, so getting the word out to get
people to come show off requires a bit more of a personal touch.
The event is in mid June. Do you all have anything fun you'd like to
exhibit?

Thanks for your time,

This is a documentary about Zionism, and how the ongoing colonization and
genocide of Palestinian people is whitewashed and sold to young American
Jews. It exposes the brainwashing, the army recruitment, and predatory
tactics such as youth groups, propaganda campaigns, and Birthright Israel.
It also highlights the growing movement of anti-Zionist Jews opposing Israel’s
colonial project and standing in solidarity with Palestinians.
After the movie, we will hold an optional facilitated social space for
people to process, learn, and have deeper conversations about the topic.
Our goal is to collectively unlearn Zionist ideas and biases, to reflect on
our various relationships to Israeli fascism, and to hopefully better
prepare ourselves to take action in the movement for a free Palestine.
People of all backgrounds encouraged to attend! You don’t need to be
Jewish, SWANA or anything else to unlearn Zionism. It has touched all our

I have decided to focus on doing hacker projects at SudoRoom, and I hope to
have a weekly email thread on what you have accomplished this week.
- Moi, I've focused a lot on Augmented Reality lately. Still thinking about
creative ways to involve light projection projects and augmented reality
with the new headsets.
- I'll have more time to hack once my job interviews are over.
What have you done this week?
== About priorities ==
Me, I realized that I spent a lot of time socializing, doing social media,
and even running meetups and classes, but that's not really what I'm made
to do. Leading classes, doing administrative work, posting photos on social
media... that's not my main focus.
I'm made to hack and be creative! So all of my involvement in SudoRoom is
strictly around doing cool, creative hacking projects.

Hi everyone!
We didn't have very good attendance at the last meeting, and I can understand
why - meetings can be annoying, boring, or even unpleasantly dramatic. Nobody
wants that!
Things are better these days, and we have the potential for Sudoroom and Omni
to grow into even better things than they ever have before. But we need to
meet up and talk about things, and encourage each other to participate in
whatever ways we can. Just showing up to the meeting is really helping!
A lot of people came last night to Hardware Hacking Tuesday, and it was fun.
If we could get half that many people to show up to meetings, it would make a
huge difference in the energy of the space. Cleaning up, organizing, and even
making things or collaborating on things, or playing with the synthesizer, are
all options before and after the meeting, and to an extent even during the
meeting!
So if you have a chance, please show up at Sudoroom meetings, whether
in-person or virtually. This is how we build community and keep the project
going.

Hi Dylan,
yes we have a bunch of Trip glasses! Like as reviewed here:
https://the-gadgeteer.com/2009/11/07/trip-glasses-review/
here is the original page about them:
https://web.archive.org/web/20160309183257/http://cornfieldelectronics.com/…
they originally run on a coin-cell battery but because they were manufactured
with counterfeit CPUs, they don't properly shut off and then the battery gets
drained. So they need to be powered with other batteries, such as a pair of
AA batteries in an enclosure with an on/off switch.
I can help you fix them up! How many pairs do you want?
I'll be there Tuesday night at around 7:30 and can meet you there

Helloooo Omni,
Attached, you will find a new proposal outlining our plans for Sacred
Makers Arts Collective to expand our rental space into the basement.
In recent months, our team has dedicated significant effort to cleaning and
organizing the space, clearing away accumulated items to activate the area
effectively. Currently, we pay $800 per month for the sewing zone and
screen print zone. With our expansion plans, we aim to introduce a looming
zone and a jewelry-making zone, utilizing the proposed spots as indicated
in the attached layout. Additionally, we seek one lockable room to secure
valuable equipment such as computers, considering the current open layout
of the media lab.
The enclosed office space adjacent to the village love room aligns
perfectly with our requirements, offering the ideal setting for our
operations. In light of these developments, we propose an increased monthly
rental rate of $1200, effective from March.
We kindly request your feedback and any necessary support regarding this
proposal. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or
require further clarification.

Hi all,
I wonder if SudoRoom or Omni would like this ceiling fan w/light:
I bought it on a daily deal a few months ago, hoping to cool my living room
this summer. But unfortunately, my handperson says there is not enough
support for it in my ceiling. So I would like to donate it somewhere
worthwhile and of course, I thought of you guys.
I can drop it off in the next few days if it can be useful.

Hey guys
I am not really having time to sit through presentations. I thought we
could film youtube videos (or hosted on any other server) that show what we
did or got done this week at SudoRoom.
This could be shared on Social media (with permission) and I guess the
biggest ask is that you show: what did I do and learn that was made
possible by SudoRoom?
The videos can be played at will if there is an online meeting, but there's
no need to sit through hours of presentations (there are already too many
of those already right?)
at some point I'd like to schedule a "this month I learned" or "today I
learned" it can be async.

Hi Sudoers:
See these Brabson Family Foundation Grants:
https://www.brabsonfoundation.org/eligibility
This grant is due March 1: (click on the proposal submission form below
for details.)
Can you help submit a proposal for one initiative by March 1 (Friday?)
There are several initiatives at sudoroom that seem worthy e.g.
- Women and non-binary coding night
- Repair on Tuesday nights
- Chromebook rescue
- Raspberry Pi Meetups monthly on Sundays
- (others...)
I'll help with text for the repair and chromebook rescue initiatives but
I need others to shepherd and submit the proposal. It can be more than
one person -- the more the merrier!

Subject: [sudo-info] Re: Join Our Research Project: Recruiting Facilitators for
Embodied Virtual Reality Learning Experience
Greetings and I hope all is well,
I wanted to follow up on the email I sent regarding our research project
aimed at developing embodied pedagogical agents for virtual reality
learning experiences.
We are still in the process of assembling our team of expert facilitators,
and I believe your organization's expertise and experience would be
invaluable to our project. As a reminder, our goal is to create an
immersive learning experience for students from underrepresented
communities and low socioeconomic backgrounds.
The role as a facilitator in our would involve guiding learners through
simulated electronic assembly tasks within our embodied virtual reality
platform. This opportunity not only allows the contribution of cutting-edge
research but also provides a chance to make a meaningful impact on the
future of education.
If your organization is still interested in being part of our project,
please let me know your availability for a brief introductory call. I would
be happy to provide more details about the project and answer any questions
you may have.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to join our team. We truly value
your expertise and hope to hear from you soon.
Warm regards,
José E. Oyola Cortés

I don't usually put up links or tweets of cool things, but this is just
exceptional! This is a hardware project integrating light projection, a
special game arcade control and some game programming

Very cool isn't it? I am thinking a lot this week of what my north star is
at SudoRoom, and I think this is one of my north stars!

Sending this again because I sent it with no subject the first time. I
also made changes to the git repository with the bylaws so that the
mediawiki markup gets rendered properly.

Hello,
The Omni delegates are currently discussing changes to governance.
Specifically, they are discussing changes to the bylaws, and putting
together a description of an Executive Director/representative-type
role.
The current proposed changes to the Omni bylaws can be found here:
https://github.com/sudoroom/omni-bylaws
It's in the markup language used by the Wiki. We will be finalizing
and consensing on these on Thursday, so please chime in if you have
questions or concerns.
We also have a very preliminary list of duties and powers that an ED
would need to have, and we can discuss those further at our meeting on
Wednesday. If someone would like to get involved in this further,
please let me know.
Finally we will also be consensing on Deb Gives membership. I have
only heard positive things so far. Let's discuss further at the
meeting.

I can't get to SudoRoom this Tuesday, but I can go this Monday. I miss
seeing everyone!
Wondering if we should have a once a month or once every few weeks "Today I
Learned" or "I did this at SudoRoom"
Perhaps we could do it at a potluck or something?
I'm focused all in on the light projection / augmented reality stuff that I
was into last year. Don't have much time for anything else!
Over the years I've gotten much more satisfaction starting, completing and
learning from little completed mini projects at SudoRoom. I will try to
post more social media but that just isn't my thing. I'm a creator!
