Roston is part of a team that is setting up a wireless internet connection. The home is just one of 150 designated households in the city to receive free internet service by the end of the year. In 2016, a coalition of media, tech, and community organizations launched the Equitable Internet Initiative, a project that will result in the construction of wireless broadband internet networks across three underserved Detroit neighborhoods. Since then, we have offered event space to the wider community and workspace to collectives on a sliding-scale basis. The Shelter-in-Place order issued in mid-March in response to the pandemic, as well as subsequent restrictions, have prohibited the gatherings that rent our event space and provide half of the income to make our monthly loan payments and keep the Omni Commons open. We have been able to keep the building open for the essential services that some of our collectives provide to the community. Additionally, we collaborated in forming the North Oakland Mutual Aid Drive together with other community organizations. The Omni has become a local distribution site for the curbside and low-income communities, disproportionately people of color, in North Oakland. We’re using our ballroom and entrance hall to gather canned food, water, masks, hand sanitizer and other items, and then distribute these items to those who need them. While the Omni Commons continues to keep the building open for our collectives to offer essential services, we now face a big challenge. In the midst of pandemic restrictions limiting our income, we must refinance the original five-year loan on the building by May 1, 2021. We’re working hard to save enough money to show lenders that we are able to make loan payments until restrictions are lifted and it’s safe to open up event rentals again. is it safe to share bank account numbers online?

serious question, can we share the routing number and account number of the omni or sudoroom bank account publicly, to enable people to transfer money into the account? Or is this a security risk? I don't know much about banking and security (except that it's heavily encrusted with tradition dating back to the pre-computer days) so I figured i'd just put the question out there. We have people wanting to donate money to sudoroom (yes i have heard about bitcoin thank you) but they're turned off by the tradition of giving 3% over to a credit card processor or other MITM which is understandable. Proposal: Forgive 50% of Omni rent debt from April - Oct

Dear sudoers, As of tomorrow, sudo room will officially be 3 months overdue for Omni rent ($6K), with an additional $2K due September 25th for October rent. I am transferring about $1K from our Paypal now, which will increase our total money-in-the-bank to approximately $2900, enough to pay off one month's back rent. I want to give a shoutout to all who've stepped up to donate more and/or sell some of our assets via eBay in recent months - Thank you for your support! And please send an update on that progress! I'm attaching a PDF of sudo room's history of pledges owed and payments made in 2020, as well as 2018, 2019, and 2020's YTD Profit & Loss reports. The following proposal up for consensus, which would put us meagerly back in the black: *Proposal to Omni Commons for sudo room consensus: * Sudo Room is requesting a retroactive 50% reduction in rent for the months of April-October (Pledge #s 2052, 2062, 2071, 2086, 2185, and 2195). This is a six-month reduction in rent. Attached are sudo room's financial reports from 2018 - 2020-to-date, reflecting ongoing inability to match income to expenses (our only expenses being Omni rent and our web hosting services). Sudo Room's donation from Sudo Mesh in 2018 of $10K was predicted to create the necessary buffer for lack of sufficient income through until mid-2020, and this prediction has unfortunately been correct.
