we now have a Taz 5 3D Printer

We have been donated another 3D printer, this time a TAZ 5 which is visibly better and more solid and well put-together than the TAZ 3 we were given (by the company) 9 years ago. The catch was that it didn't have an extruder, but the extruder from the TAZ 3 very easily swapped onto it with a single screw! The TAZ 3 has never been a good 3D printer (not because of its extruder) and so i'm happy to swap its extruder onto the new one, but it still needs to be wired up - the TAZ 5 didn't come with the cable and so we need to make one. The control box uses these fancy round connectors for the extruder(s) (it can support two) and I have the pins that fit the connectors - so we can make the wiring harness as soon as we get a diagram of those connectors (the round extruder connector for the TAZ 5) I plan to heat up the heated bed on the TAZ 3 and then scoop it off of the glass plate (which is damaged) so that it can be swapped onto the Type A Machines 3D printer (the wooden one) then I plan to finish dedicating the TAZ 3 to be only for dispensing solder paste onto circuit boards, as seen here: https://hackaday.com/2014/04/02/dispensing-solder-paste-with-a-3d-printer/ also we need to find a home for the two-extruder "delta" 3D printer that's in the middle of the 3D printing desk, it's nice and has a heated bed, it just needs someone to adopt/buy it from sudoroom since it's not a great community machine (has too much personality) and we already have more than enough. -jake ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 30 Mar 2022 14:14:19 -0700 > Hope your week is going well. oh wow I'll showcase sudoroom hardware hack night at the Noisebridge 5 minutes of fame tomorrow night!

I'm going to showcase not only my light projector projects, but also how hanging out at SudoRoom hardware hack night helped me get stuff going My big theme will be - we learn best by project based learning, especially if I don't have to learn for the sake of school or a job Project based learning is the best way for me to retain knowledge I was thinking of learning math, and by doing a project like the light projection art, this is really the way for me to learn math and let it stick! sudoRoom as a place you show up and do art - an artist's experimental place

Hmm I think I'm going to make a flyer - SudoRoom is a pseudo artist hang out. A place where you can experiment and refine your art. You're not just there to go to a party, a talk or a class, your'e also there to just show up and continue your project and this is what will compel you to learn long run! A new massive projector donated to SudoRoom

We have a 14,000 lumen sanyo projector that was donated to SudoRoom. This thing is bright enough to play in office light and possibly even daylight! It's so cool, thanks to Jake and the others for bringing this baby. We were able to find a DVI HDMI cable, and we tested projecting some Kara walker on the walls. https://www.flickr.com/photos/miromi/52015867232/in/dateposted/ I mean, if we can project this even in a bright room, this would be really cool! It's fun to hack alongside others instead of being exiled to the ballroom. Projector + viewer movement Another thought hit me - some people suggested making an interactive kinect camera that projects upon people in front of the projector. these are cool experiments have been popular in the past, and you see them in full immersion rooms in museums. There is even a kinect at SudoRoom! But I just realized that modern smartphones (android and ios) are so powerful that it's typical for them to have body tracking algorithms with the camera so we could code projectons and animaions with just a standrad cell phone attached. I think there's also a use for kinect if we need it, but it's not as hard as it used to be. Face trackinga on android https://developers.google.com/ar/develop/augmented-faces Capturing body motion ios https://developer.apple.com/documentation/arkit/content_anchors/capturing_b… I think I'm a mobile developer by trade, and i think it hedges me in, but what's nice is that we can get something cool up quickly, and with these frameworks there doesn'te ven need to be a network connection or any weird connection to a networked API. It was also rad just looking at the Kara Walker projection. starting an engineering daybook, some progress, and more ideas for future projects

I realized that over the years at SudoRoom, it was always important for me to write down what I was doing. But I never had a proper engineering daybook! Even though I learned so much here! So going forward, I'm going to keep a personal daybook. I think it will help me with my blog posts, as I tend to take notes as cartoons https://www.flickr.com/photos/miromi/52017624127/in/photostream/ Here's a sneak peek at my next blog posts. I'm very interested in communicating what I learn through projects - and I think it's very attractive to mention that I started with an idea, came consistently to the hardware hack nights, got inspiration and tons of advice and even guidance! and just kept at it. I think the theme of my next blog post is "There's a wonderful power in just showing up consistently!" And then also highlight how the entire SudoRoom (well not the whole thing) was out at the east bay bike party, getting involved!
