founder of the hacker/maker movement Tool Sale

Nick Bertoni created a community workspace where people could come and build and learn with all types of tools and technology, mostly in the 1980's and 1990's. He also collected a lot of tools and materials, including an electronics lab, from which I already acquired stuff for sudoroom. This weekend you should go to the tool sale, even if you don't need anything, just to see all the awesome stuff. And certainly if you need something, no matter how weird or rare it is (or you never knew it existed) it will be there. I can tell you that the Sorensen DCR 20-25B works perfectly since I repaired it years ago. It's a 20V 25A regulated power supply. Attached is the Craigslist post for the sale, which will take place 10am-4pm saturday and sunday. Cabinets for donation

DIY Safe Solar Eclipse viewing glasses

Anyone here know how someone could make their own solar eclipse glasses in order to safely view the August 21st solar eclipse?? Was thinking of using multiply-folded metallized film laminate that's found in common antistatic bags for a filter. AFAICT, 5X foldings of the 2-ply antistatic bags -- 10 layers in total -- similar to those described at http://www.all-spec.com/Catalog/Static-Control/ESD-Safe-Bags/Static-Shieldi… and at http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawebserver?mwsId=SSSSSuUn_zu8l00xM82xlx_eN… seem to _completely_ block out all sunlight. getting rid of sewing machine and embroidery machine tables

we've talked about this before but.. does anyone object to selling/giving away the giant JUKI sewing machine table AND embroidery machine table? i wish we could keep the latter (it's really cool when it works!) but since I haven't been able to get it to work (and i tried) i'm ready to give up on it. if nobody objects or offers a plan, i'll post them on craigslist and get them out of the space, for free if necessary. -jake

Missing microscope lenses

Hi all, If you have borrowed any of the microscope objectives or eyepiece lenses from CCL, please return them as soon as possible. If you see any microscopes sitting out, that is likely because they are in use on a regular basis, and they will be sorely missed if not in working order! Please don't remove parts from lab equipment without checking with someone first. So, please return our lenses - no questions asked. We have a pretty good idea exactly when they disappeared, but we'd rather not have to do the detective work to figure out who was where when. Let alone having to install cameras or lock up all of our lab gear, which defeats the purpose of having a community lab. Thanks! Patrik
