A small metal piece that acts as a guide to this piece of lumber was
especially tight, so we loosened the screws on it no more than a turn each,
which seems to have allowed a bit more give.
In conclusion, this may or may not have been the problem, and perhaps
there are other problems, but the mechanism seems to be working at the
