Our team of 5 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience using
CAD/CAM software (ours is Fusion & ShopBot) to join at our HQ in Oakland.
You’ll be joining a cross-disciplinary tq/bipoc team that is building a
protocol for dense community-owned distribution networks to emerge between
Artists and Listeners. Your role will be to produce and iterate a physical
prototype that interacts with our digital product.
We are in stealth, but previously launched the largest decentralized
digital music event

history and are actively working with music communities in more than 100
countries.
*Roles and Responsibilities*
At Currents, you'll be responsible for launching the first protocol for
decentralized distribution networks, starting in the music industry.
This will involve designing scalable, reliable web2+3 systems that serve
our worldwide grassroots communities.
- *Design* engraving and milling patterns for our brass prototype in
Fusion 360. Tackle design challenges in ensuring each token unique.
Troubleshoot feeds/speeds to ensure readable engraving and accurate milling.
- *Manufacture* brass ‘tokens’ using a CNC, and troubleshoot production
challenges to improve production time while ensuring quality and precision
are maintained/improved.
- *Collaboration*: Work alongside our user research, design, and
engineering teams to iterate the token design/production to address any
usability issues.
- *Iterate* not only the product, but also your design/manufacturing
processes to increase efficiency in the fast-paced environment of a startup.
- *Maintain* our ****ShopBot ****CNC, reading up and identifying
potential repairs or adjustments before things break.
What you Bring
- You’re well versed in CAD software, preferably Fusion 360. You’ve done
a lot of iterative/problem solving in past design work to overcome
challenges specific to certain materials, machines, and intricate projects.
- You have experience using ShopBot CNCs, or have transferrable machine
experience and are eager and confident in your ability to learn everything
about this machine quickly. You have experience working with brass.
- You collaborate with a human-centered perspective and an exacting
attention to detail in the products that you work on.
- You obsessively like to get involved in things. You’re constantly
reading and researching and sharing new findings with friends.
- Whether they're creative pursuits, side hustles, or hobbies, you're
constantly learning about the world through the act of creation.
*A Strong Plus*
- Extensive experience using Fusion 360.
- Experience using a ShopBot machine
- Experience working in a startup or other fast-paced CAD/CAM work.
