i disagree with this sentiment 100%
it's much easier to get a project moving if someone has already tried and documented a
similar project. what's the harm in looking? we all stand on the shoulders of giants
- seeing a run through of how someone has already completed the basic steps of a project
that may use some of the same principles and learning from the mistakes/efforts of others
frees your limited time up for additional awesomeness in the design, and can help avoid
late-night-almost-finished-but-still-fruitlessly-debugging,
sanity-destroying-once-you-realize-how-much-time-you-just-wasted pitfalls.

I don't bother spending too much time looking at others projects anymore... Wastes
your time and is a sure fire way to doom creating your own projects
Trust me on this one I've learned this from bitter experience
Just focus on making your own stuff ...

This sounds like fun. Add a Raspberry Pi, a web cam,
and openCV, and you have a pretty nice playground.

Watching this video, it seems to me that we could do an
automated foosball game if we had some basic gearing going both ways.
