Thanks for your input Jake.
With the intention to reduce as many points of failure as possible, and
to make easy on us for when troubleshooting, I suggested the move of the
DSL Modem to the Server area and also the re-doing its phone
connections; specially those that were hanging.
After that cabling cleaning and Modem move we were getting speeds of
25-30MB of download speed; as I recall.
Yes, I agree with you. We should have a notebook in the Server room.
Someone else suggested before, but I forgot about it.
What is next in regards of this part of the wiring is the blue cable's
path. It needs to be improved not only for aesthetics, but also for
safety, performance, and the cable integrity itself. Right now, by the
stairs, you may see that someone decided to put some metal parts on top
of the cable itself. Oh well... :)
Thanks again,
Daniel

thanks for doing all that work!
one thing: the DSL modem would be better off as close to where the
telephone line comes into the building as possible. There is
bandwidth loss with distance from the telco, especially in an
electrically noisy environment like inside omni and next to ethernet
cables.
conversely, there is no "loss" over ethernet (it either works or it
doesn't, mostly) so it's better to put the DSL modem where it works
best and run ethernet to it.
also, for documentation perhaps some written info on a notebook tied
to the server rack? i think it might be foolish to put everything on
a wiki on the net :)
