Hello,
Hope you are well. I just wrote some cheap node code to email people when
payments fail.

I volunteered to do this at the last meeting. I was wondering if someone
would be willing to volunteer some text for the body of the email and
subject. I tested this with my fake stripe account.

Hey Noah,
Good meeting you tonight + happy to hear you have interest hacking on the
site
It seems like this is meant to be run independently of sudo-humans and
exposes a POST endpoint to determine failed invoices? I am curious if you
have taken a look at the sudo-humans repo on Github [1] to see if the
Stripe API you are using can be integrated into that app code. It seems
like it would be ideal if there was not an additional server instance
running to take care of this.
As for the subject/body:
Subject: Your payment to Sudo Room has failed!
Body: Hello,
Your payment to Sudo Room has recently failed.
Please login to sudoroom.org/humans to update your payment information.
As a reminder, all members of Sudo Room are required to pay monthly dues on
a sliding scale to remain in good standing. A monthly donation of $60 is
suggested, but no one is turned away for lack of resources.

I did take a look at it, but I did not understand the code. To be honest
with you I am not a node expert by any stretch. I was also told that it
would be easier to do this in a separate repo. I think there are plans to
replace it with Drupal later on, so I was going for more of a quick fix.
I am not trying to impose anything for sure.

remember that any automated email needs to have a link that puts a person's
email address on a "no not send any more automated emails" list.
it can be something like

Right excellent point. We might have to integrate with the current system
to do that somehow. I will try to communicate with some people and see
what they think the best course of action is. I am not attached to this
work at all so if we have to throw it away I am cool with it.

i think that if a person gets an email notifying them that their payment has
failed, and then they unsubscribe their email address but fix their payment
info and continue payment, then they should not be penalized for opting out of
email notifications.

Personally, I would prefer not to give them the option to unsubscribe from
notifications about membership payments if they want to be a member,
Note that since CCL is a nonprofit with voting members, we are legally
required to maintain a method to mail info about elections etc to all our
members - and we decided long ago that our main method of official
communication would be by email, NOT snail mail. So the need to be able to
email all our members is already baked into our Bylaws etc.
