It is the home of Bay Area Jazz & Arts, Inc (BAJA), a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. It is a music and art program by and for people who love music, especially jazz. BAJA is housed at 2147 Broadway in a venue known as the Sound Room. The Sound Room is aptly named. The focus is on the sound or the music. Unlike clubs where the performance may be peripheral to the experience, at the Sound Room the performance is the experience. The Sound Room provides a small inviting space; there is seating for 72. The small size ensures that all in attendance are actually participants as there is clear visibility from all seats and natural communication between performers and audience.
