Last night was quite magical! It reminded me of why I love hackerspaces so
much.
I invited 5 or 6 cool people from AI and augmented reality / virtual
reality meetups and hackathons I knew. I think most of them had never been
to a hackerspace before. three new people showed up, and none of them had
ever been to SudoRoom before.
We got an exhibiting artist to visit! I'd like to get more painters,
artists etc. to be visiting SudoRoom. Talked about paintings, and making 3D
models, and using the light projectors to project art. Introduced them to
the media lab with CeCe (sic) and the sewing machines.
Dane put up a light projector (I'm face palming becusa I keep talking about
this but never bring the ones I have, one of them is a loaner from SudoRoom
that I need to leave at SudoRoom), and he projected the hackers movie onto
the wall.
A cool new person came and we did multiplayer augmented reality with our
headsets. Augmented reality is at a nascent stage right now, but I love
creating art on it the most. We mirrored what we were seeing for others.
We talked about doing an ongoing blender class and I learned how to do
Booleans to cut shapes out of others shapes. I think since I'm time
constrained I might as well run a small pod of people Tuesday evenings.
Went over kitbashing.
Had some great green goddess pizza with Paige and folks. Thanks Paige for
supporting the pizza!
Explored the neighborhood (Temescal) with the folks who had never been to
SudoRoom before. AN ongoing theme is that we never seem to grab the awesome
foot traffic of the neighborhood. There were so many people walking to
restaraunts last night even though the area has relatively little parking.
More than you might see in a lot of downtown oakland
There were regular community gatherings at the board game store across the
street (is it called it's your move)
there's a kitchen appliance store that was having a cooking workshop (they
could be at omni commons!)
Only took a quick look at the new telepresence robot. I spoke to Jake, i
will have to email the company that made the robot, hopefully we can
connect to them and get a free software update since we are a non profit
While I was there I got an AI APi to work, might make something fun for a
hackathon or sudoroom demos. I'm very interested in using AI to help people
create art manually instead of replacing artists.
It was nice to see the dance event going on tuesday nights. wonder if I
should reach out to them and interact with them more!
we talked about fundraising for sudoroom, omnicommons and the MADE game
museum in old oakland. A lot of the stuff at Sudoroom is suitable for a
museum - it'd be nicve to have augmented reality exhibits of what stuff is
and "educate people" step by step beased on their engineering level and
computer history knowledge what things are.
There are going to be great things ahead this month!
