If anyone has a disaster radio board they'd like to lend me, I'd like to
experiment with a long-haul LORA link from here (coastside) across the bay to Oakland.

Hah it's not actually our hardware. Someone added support for some chinese
boards in the firmware and somehow one of the vendors on aliexpress started
selling them pre-flashed with the disaster.radio firmware. Not sure how
that happened but I think it's fine.

I had no idea this was a thing, but obviously i would love to have one at my
house. I could run wires to it so that people could flash and hack at it
remotely without having to come here.

Chinese manufacturers don't really *do* "Intellectual Property" in the
USA sense. They're almost like modern day cyberpunks: information wants
to be free, and if a design exists, they'll manufacture it and sell it.
I'm buyin a couple of these; if you get one up on your roof with a nice
Yagi pointed in the general direction of Montara Mountain, I can hike up
there and maybe we can try a long-range link.

I just got mine. Flashed it and have to do some local tests.
Also I should fab up another better antenna than the dinky little thing it comes with.
Aaand, I have to build and flash the nodejs web app which I'll probably put off for a
while since I'm allergic to nodejs.
I also have a pair of 433Mhz ones which I think might be much better for longer-range
links than 915Mhz. I can make some pretty bad-ass high-gain antennas for that band too.
So far seems like a neat little board with a lot of potential.
