On that point, I am most interested in setting it up as a crawler (which
ought not to have any privacy implications), and would only secondarily
introduce the option of using the indexing proxy for those specifically
interested in that.
Using the indexing proxy would certainly at least bias the YaCy index
towards pages YaCy users visit, which on the one hand is interesting as a
subtle form of collaborative filtering, and on the other hand reveals
information about the aggregate browsing habits of YaCy users in general at
least.

The reason I'm (apparently uncritically;-) enthusiastic is that Anthony
& I are friends and we've discussed freedom & privacy issues
extensively. He's a coder with serious smarts/skills/background, and he
walks his talk ferociously, so if he's endorsing something as a viable
privacy application, I trust his judgement.

Thanks, and a) it's true, and b) I just pulled an allnighter to reply to
an RFP for a 100-station PBX to be installed in July, c) my brain was
already mushed last night, and d) as a result of b + c I'm loopy as hell
right now;-) and about to get 4 hours sleep before heading back to
client site in SF to work on their PBX toward their move next week which
has to be absolutely seamless.
Which is also why I'm highly skeptical of people who say they want to
run a telco/ISP on volunteer labor, but that's another topic (or dead
horse;-) for another day.

Hi Folks,
As is our heathen custom, we will be gathering around the communal soldering iron this
upcoming tuesday to nurture that unique bond that can only be formed between human and
machine. I'm speaking of course, of Microcontroller Hack Night.
Ongoing projects include semi-automatic beer brewing equipment, DIY peripherals for sudo
room, using servos to point various things in useful ("") directions, and
starting this week we will count that most unholy marriage of Raspberry Pi to Arduino
among our tinkerings.
Finally got into WordPress to add these to the calendar (thanks matt!):

This sounds awesome.
Are you familiar with existing freedom boxes? I have one from last year, a guru server
plug (globalscaletechnologies.com). Doesn't do much but the wireless mesh. Would love
to add interesting new toys like what you describe (yeah, if I were a coder). If you'd
like to borrow and experiment with it, just let me know. It's just sitting on my shelf
holding some of my wishes.

It's that time again folks!
Come one, come all, experienced "i-can-solder-while-eating-a-burrito" and
"what's-a-breadboard?" types alike, to the 3rd bi-weekly Microcontroller
Hacking Night @ sudo room. I'll be there around 5:30 and plan to stay pretty late -
not 2AM like last time though...i hope. Feel free to come and go at your convenience
since there will be many projects going through various phases. If there are a few people
needing to build controllers to get started, once critical mass is reached I can guide
people through the process of building a controller on a breadboard ala the Real Bare
Bones Board schematic. There are a few projects that are ongoing for people to join,
including adding a keypad for the doorman, various 2-axis servo control applications
(solar panels, camera, radio dish, dare i say laser???), a semi-automatic beer brewing
controller, onboard camera for a model rocket, Raspberry Pi to Arduino interfacing and
more! Also I have some raw ingredients that can be used to make controllers from scratch,
so even complete newbies can come and with a little bit of assembly time start working up
the learning curve independently if they choose.
We also have an etherpad for jotting down project info. This is intended as a way for
people to flesh out what subsystems are relevant to each project and encourage
collaboration where there might be overlaps in technology. You don't have to be
interested in the entirety of a project to get involved - just help solve the one facet
you're interested in, and everyone can fold it back into projects more relevant to
their own work.

Last time there was a small discussion on compatibility between projects - i think it
would be interesting to come up with some hardware and software standards that we can use
in projects at sudo room to give more modularity and minimize the rework required to port
a subsystem over to a new project. Like common pinouts, connectors, libraries, and

As is our heathen custom, we will be gathering around the communal
soldering iron this upcoming tuesday to nurture that unique bond that can
only be formed between human and machine. I'm speaking of course, of
Microcontroller Hack Night.
Ongoing projects include semi-automatic beer brewing equipment, DIY
peripherals for sudo room, using servos to point various things in useful
("") directions, and starting this week we will count that most unholy
marriage of Raspberry Pi to Arduino among our tinkerings.
