Hi Sudoers:
NYC Mesh participated in this Windows 10 Fix-a-Thon at Brooklyn Spark
makerspace: let's give Lydon a warm Sudo Room welcome on July 22.

*Fix-a-thon report back:*
On Monday, July 7th, we successfully hosted our Windows 10 Fix-a-Thon at
the Brooklyn Spark <https://brooklynspark.com/> makerspace, bringing
together community members to address the urgent issue of Microsoft
ending support for Windows 10 in October 2025. The event was a
collaborative effort with TechFIN <https://brooklynspark.com/>, and NYC
Mesh with 12 volunteers who worked together to refurbish laptops that
would otherwise become e-waste.
During the two-hour event, our volunteers successfully refurbished 20
laptops by installing alternative operating systems like Linux Mint and
ChromeOS Flex, giving these devices a new lease on life. The event
served a dual purpose: raising awareness about the 400 million PCs
globally at risk of becoming obsolete due to Windows 10's end of
support, while also providing tangible solutions through hands-on
refurbishment.
In total, dozens of laptops will be distributed to digital literacy
programs - including the 20 we refurbished that evening plus 60
additional laptops provided by our partner TechFIN. New York City
Councilmembers also helped with the collect drive we ran at 6 locations
across Brooklyn to collect the laptops that were then refurbished.
Best,
Lucas Rockett Gutterman 🚀

Subject: [sudo-info] Sudo Mesh visit
Hello Sudo Room folks!
My name is Lydon and I am a volunteer with NYC Mesh over here in New
York.
I'm reaching out as I'll be visiting SF next week from 7/16 to 7/23. I'm
mainly there to attend Open Sauce, however I'd love to visit and connect
with some of the hacker spaces and other cool things happening in the
city
as well.
Us here at NYC Mesh have been connecting with a number of different
groups
around the country, so we can share knowledge, skills, equipment etc. We
collaborate regularly with Seattle Community Network up in Seattle, as
they've been giving us some valuable knowledge and experience with LTE
networking. We've been sending extra networking equipment we have up to
them for them to use as well.
We've also got a few folks who have stopped by from Philly Community
Wireless as well!
I'd love to swing by and visit your space, and wanted to see if any of
the
Sudo Mesh / People's Open Network project folks will be around to chat
with
as well and see what you all are up to!
I was planning to visit on the 22nd for your Hardware Hacking Night, but
would be happy to coordinate to visit another time if that's better.
Thanks and I look forward to visiting and connecting with some of your
folks!
