I've never had an Apple anything except a $40 set of iPhonies™ fake ear
buds so I'm not an authority.

But a web search seems to indicate that there are ways of bypassing the
Apple ID on an iPad.

Having anything to do with anything in the Mac walled garden eco-system
makes my skin crawl, Ron, so I won't volunteer to try & help personally,
though I have built a couple of Hackintoshes for other people in my
time. I prefer to pick at open sores stuff. But there used to be an
event called Hardware Hacking Tuesday at sudoroom, I'm not sure if it is
still going on, given the pandemic, it isn't on the calendar. But if and
when it revives you might find someone there who would like to give it a
throw.

If the device is already registered to an Apple ID it
is effectively useless to anyone except the original owner. Without their credentials you
might as well return it to an Apple Store so they can get it back.

Hi, I’m Ron - Food Not Bombs volunteer and cook. I
found an iPad 3
this week, but it’s locked, needs Apple ID and password for
activation. Anybody know how to bypass this? Thanks.
