I said "your 'community' space," but honestly, I still want this to be my space, too. I hardly ever make a fuss about any of this stuff because it's all so futile, you know? but in this case, I really want to make my point clear: I think we should rescind our action against Rannette. I think she's been treated unfairly. Even if she is "aggressive" towards you or your compatriots, I don't think we need white dudes policing our space of black women's bodies. Matt, you claim to have acted in another's interest and you offer an injured third party -- let them speak for themselves, because I don't think it's your place right now. If there was a violent incident that threatened our space, let's hear it from a witness or an involved party. "Something Happened" is not good enough. Otherwise "but above all the Omni Commons must maintain a safe, welcoming environment" seems to fly directly in the face of the lived experience of too many black people.

Call for Facilitators / Participants in a sudo Men's Group

Hey all, I wanted to reach out for some feedback. Seeking folks who would want to facilitate or participate in a men's group. I've previously participated in small groups like this and found them beneficial for various reasons. I would like to see if folks have had similar or different experiences. The way I'm thinking about this would culminate in something like a regular meeting for men in the sudo room community to discuss relevant issues including those of identity, oppression, privilege, patriarchy, gender, sexuality, stereotypes, safe space, and mutual support. This may not be the best or even a viable path to approach these topics, but I wanted to throw it out there to see if there is any interest. Thanks, Matt

It's not huge as SEM's go, but definitely not desktop - more like "small room sized". And it would obviously need some dedicated person to keep it in good running condition. It is however almost brand new, and currently *running*, at <5nm resolution! Beam Services Inc is down in Pleasanton, so I guess interested parties could potentially go and have a look at the system. This kind of equipment would be a significant commitment and investment in time and effort on our part, so let's coordinate on this shall we? His bio, and the abstract for the talk, can be found below. Abstract GnuPG is a powerful tool. In this practical presentation, I will start with an overview of OpenPGP, the messaging protocol that GnuPG implements. Then, I will explain GnuPG's architecture, some good practices, and some neat tricks. This talk is specifically targeted at people who already have a basic understanding of how GnuPG works, and are interested in understanding what's under the hood. Bio Neal has been hacking on and contributing to free software for over 20 years. Among other projects, he has contributed to GNU Hurd and GPE (the GNU Palm Environment). After g10code's highly successful fund raising campaign at the end of 2014 for GnuPG, he was hired by Werner Koch to work on GnuPG. During the past two years at g10code, Neal has implemented the new trust on first use (TOFU) trust model, and fixed GNOME Keyring to better interact with GnuPG, among other things.

pair programming station and UPSs

by "jake's co-working station" robb means "the pair-programming station" which is a desk on wheels with two monitors, two keyboards, and two computers arranged symmetrically so that two people can use the same computer. https://sudoroom.org/wiki/ there are three UPS at the pair programming station. sudo access door

I noticed someone swept sudoroom and cleaned up a little bit, and it looks nice. I spent some time tonight moving stuff to the e-waste area and throwing out trash and recycling and stuff. There was a lot of stuff that I was like "how the fuck did this even get inside sudoroom? Someone dumped it on us? I really look forward to the day when Sudoroom has its own door, that can be closed and locked when no members are here. That way, if someone wants to drop off a bunch of garbage that they found down the street in the Creative Re-Use dumpster, they will have to explain it to the member who is watching out for that stuff - and hopefully the member will be discriminating about donations. Don't get me wrong, we get great donations, and they need sorting and it's OK, but we get a lot of junk that doesn't belong, and I can only imagine that it's being dropped off when nobody is here to say "wait what!??! NO!!! take it back to wherever you got it, you can't leave that here." so, what do we think about a door? I guess it's complicated because there are three ways to get into sudoroom. -jake

unwanted giant printer/copier in sudoroom

there is a giant printer or photocopier thing in sudoroom, nobody wants it here, it should go. I think it works, there are instructions on the front for what to do in case the menu comes up in Japanese. If you know anyone who wants it they should take it away, at least out of Sudoroom. It is a: SAVIN 3350 DNP I think you need a pickup truck to move it, but it might fit in the trunk of a large car. It comes with extra drums or ink or whatever. If nobody responds to this message saying they want to take it, i will find someone to get it out of here within the next few days. -jake
