when I got to Sudoroom, a guy named Patrick was here and not wearing a mask. I
welcomed him to sudoroom but I mentioned that building policy is presently that
everyone has to wear a mask. He asked me who's in charge and who made that
rule, and I explained how Omni is run by delegates from the individual
collectives etc, and that we were complying with the law I believe.
I would appreciate an update on our situation so that I can answer questions
about our mask policy more accurately, if anyone can help me with that.
As for Patrick, he explained that his "spiritual choice" (he doesn't like
religion) is to not wear a mask ever. Then he said that if this is our policy,
then he will gather his stuff and leave and never come back.
I asked if he wanted me to contact him if our policy changes, and he said no,
and left.

Hi everyone,
you're getting this email either because you're on the sudoroom discuss email
list, or because I BCC'd you directly. Tonight I'll be hosting Sudoroom for
those who want to come hack on whatever in person, or through telepresence of
any means you can invoke.
Remember that Omni Commons and Sudoroom policy is presently that
EVERYONE MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES INSIDE THE BUILDING.
(if you want to eat something you should go outside)
in the past few weeks, we've had about 5-15 people over the course of the
evening, not including remote participants who logged in through the
telescreen.
Jenny put it on the Omni calendar:
https://omnicommons.org/blog/events/hardware-hack-night-3-2022-03-01/
Here it is on the sudoroom page:
https://sudoroom.org/events/hardware-hack-night-2022-02-15/
that says 7PM but I try to be there soon after 6pm.
if you get to the door (at the corner of 48th and shattuck) and you can't get
in, call me or someone else who's there to let you in! Email me if you don't
have my phone number. Actually a great way to get our attention is to join the
video chat link at the end of this email!
We don't always hear the doorbell and I don't answer it after 10PM anyway
because of diminishing returns :)
You should get on this sudoroom discuss mailinglist! click here:
https://sudoroom.org/lists/postorius/lists/sudo-discuss.sudoroom.org/
and you should donate to sudoroom, monthly, by signing up here:
https://sudoroom.org/humans
and if you want to make a one-time donation, you can go here:
https://sudoroom.org/donate
if you can't make it, join the jitsi videochat with the room, and chat with
each other as well as a giant TV screen/speakerphone on the wall of the space:
https://meet.waag.org/turtlesturtlesturtles
(don't worry if you're the only one in the "room", others will join eventually,
and if the camera is pointed at the floor, just yell until someone comes and
talks to you and then ask them to aim it back up into the room)
see you soon!

Dear Sudoroom,
Today I voted in behalf of Sudoroom in favor of the MOP proposal, and they are
now a member collective of Omni Commons. I emailed about them on April 20th
but didn't hear anything back, so I hope everyone is okay with that decision.
Today a proposal was introduced for a new committee to be formed at Omni
Commons to value and protect the safety and interests of BIPOC/Non-Men.
this is the original proposal in PDF form:
https://omnicommons.org/pipermail/consensus/attachments/20220505/ab900701/a…
this is an editable "cryptpad" and
we are requested to "please leave comments in red"
https://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/edit/6IhZqwyXxN6CrEvtiljmnqTa/
actually this is a cryptpad copy of their document just for sudoroom, and I
will forward our discussion to Rafiq to integrate our input.
Other collectives are asking questions too, so if you want to be more engaged
in the discussion, please join the [omni-consensus] list! But definitely make
discussion here in the sudoroom list and get engaged.
If Sudoroom members have concerns or objections, we need to communicate them
promptly and work toward agreeable amedments. It is not an option to simply
reject the proposal, but rather if you have specific concerns then we need to
work with each other to address those concerns and come up with something
agreeable.

Hey all, I'm boosting this email with a new subject line so that it's
clear to readers - this contains an important new proposal!!!
Brief summary: this proposal forms a congress of BIPOC and non-men
from all Omni's groups, who then elect a small committee which has its
own seat on the board, its own delegate, and a few specific powers
related to addressing racism and sexism. This is an important step
towards making omni representative and accountable! This finally
begins to put our Statement of Solidarity into action!

I added a little note at the beginning on our proposal and the events
from 2 weeks ago. Happy to provide a short statement. In general, I
appreciate the apologies made and think this can be a growing
opportunity to forge a stronger collective. If it's possible, we can
open discussion on the proposal this week if enough delegates have had
a chance to review with the idea of approving at the next delegate
meeting (or worst case, the one after).
As mentioned earlier, we are proposing the creation of a safe space
Committee (see attached). We appreciate and accept all
feedback/comments/concerns.
In struggle,
Rafiq

Hey all,
I'm looking for RCA / Composite / BNC gear for a video diy project.
Wondering if you might have:
- a small CRT monitor (less than 10" would be amazing) with composite or BNC
- camcorder of some kind with yellow composite
This sort of gear was normal back in the VCR days. I've been digging
yellow composite cables out of ewaste. Any guidance appreciated!
Composite - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video
BNC - https://www.wiringo.com/bnc-cable.html
Hi Sudoroom members,
We will have to send our delegate (me) to the delegates' meeting in two weeks
with a position on the following proposal to operate a day center in the
basement of Omni, as described here:
https://omnicommons.org/pipermail/consensus/attachments/20220505/d539bbca/a…
When I first heard about this idea, I didn't think it would be practical, but
having been in the delegates' meeting and tonight having heard directly from
Joey who is leading this operation, I'm confident that it will be a positive
use of the space, and in line with the common values that Omni collectives
share.
Also, this proposal will significantly increase the chances that we'll not lose
the building in 210 days when the baloon mortgage comes due, as the money
coming in from Village Of Love will help us present as a viable operation to
banks considering giving us a loan. I know we don't want to make decisions
based purely on money, or purely because we want to keep the Omni, so I think
it's great that this proposal seems to me like it's going to be a good thing.
If sudoroom members have specific questions or concerns about this proposal,
speak up now so that we can start the process of addressing them. If nobody
has anything to say about it, like what happened with MOP, I will represent
that Sudoroom is in favor of this proposal
Forwarded below is some context, and a link to the meeting notes from the
latest delegates' meeting discussing this proposal.

Subject: Re: [omni-consensus] FIRST DRAFT PROPOSAL: Village of Love
Update: a few points were clarified at tonight's delegates meeting
https://omnicommons.org/wiki/Event:2022/05/05_Delegates#vol
VOL's initial proposal is to pay a total of $1800/mo beginning June 1,
for these four existing basement rooms:
1) The former FYE room
2) The room next to that, currently used as FNB storage
3) The room next to that, formerly Liberated Lens
4) The larger enclosed space which joins all the above rooms
For the first few months (June, July, August) VOL would also like to
use the entrance hall during their operating hours (10-3 M-F). Their
use would be compatible with the free store and with ANV.
Once we finish building the new basement room (approved 4/21) they
would like to pay $800/mo for that as well. Once all construction
finishes in that area of the basement, they would also like to pay
$400/mo to occupy and curate the open space adjacent to these two
rooms. These could come as separate proposals, but it'd be good for
delegates to agree to the broad outline if possible. At that point,
their total would be $3000/month.

Hey all!
I am sick today so I should not come into the space. If anyone else can
come "host" JS thursdays tonight that'd be rad. This is super short notice
though so...
Thanks,
Charles
Last night's meeting was very productive. Here are the highlights:
*1) Juliana is planning a Women & Non-binary Hack & Code night on Mondays.*
She's going to tour the space next week to get familiar with it, and
hopefully hold an event on Monday, May 16. If you're a woman or NB and you
want to see more events like this, introduce yourself to Juliana and make a
plan to stop by with friends!
*2) Imma shared the confusion and frustration a new member collective
joining Omni Commons felt *regarding the terms of their incorporation into
Omni, and we discussed ways to improve that process.
*3) Proposal: Code of Conduct*
Since it was proposed that we adopt a new code of conduct and update our
statements of purpose and values, there has been a lot of drafting, and the
result looks pretty great: About - Sudo Room
<https://sudoroom.org/wiki/About>. I proposed that we codify this draft as
final. So if you want to object, do so, otherwise we'll adopt this text as
official at the next meeting.
*4) Laser cutting*
Arthur and I are going to figure out how to use the laser cutter. Join in
if you want to learn too! Details here: Big red laser cutter - Sudo Room
<https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Big_red_laser_cutter>
*5) Show-N-Tell*
I made Frenchie's cat flag from the show "Our Flag Means Death". I highly
recommend it. It's funny and also makes for some incredible drama. It's
also pretty fucking radical in some ways. Watch it so I have more people to
talk about this with!
