About a week ago there was an incident where Tom (Is he even a Sudo
member?) was has hanging out at Sudo room. Tom is coughing a lot all over
the place, he wears a mask but most of the time I see it dangling
around his neck. I have spoken to him in the past about this.
He props the door open to let himself in and out.
Dane came to CCL and spoke to me about Tom and his coughing. I went over
to Sudo with Dane and we asked Tom to go get medical attention and not to
come into the Omni coughing like that. Tom's response showed that he
really didn't give a fuck about our concerns for the health of the Omni
community. He continued with his internet activities and didn't leave.
3 days later I got sick and found that I had been infected with the COVID
SARS virus.
Of course I don't know where I got infected but I have had very little
contact with people outside of the Omni.
I would recommend Omni ban Tom permanently for not considering the health
and welfare of the Omni community. People have been banned from the Omni
for less reason than this.
CCL has a set of rules which would prohibit anyone to behave like Tom in
CCL space. We are set up to record temperatures, have people sign in and
state they have no symptoms, etc. Jake you need to not talk any more about
taking the lock off the door. It is in place for multiple reasons and this
is just one. Make the situation better for the community, not worse. I
don't want to have any more discussion, I'm busy healing up.
Just a heads up I got the IG account info with Andrew and started posting
stuff today! So make sure to follow the account if you're into that kind of
social media
https://www.instagram.com/sudo.room/
I'll at least try to post about omni commons fundraiser very often.
If anyone got the Twitter account info I can do that too

Hi everyone,
You're getting this email either because 1) you're on the sudoroom discuss
email list, or 2) because I BCC'd you directly.
Tonight I'll be hosting Sudoroom for those who want to come hack on whatever in
person, or through telepresence (see the last link in this email)
ALSO NOW FEATURING: SoftWEAR hacking too: most Tuesday evenings the sewing area
at Omni Commons (in the basement) is also active so bring your fabric and
textile projects and technical repairs; we've got heavy duty and serger sewing
machines available. You’re also welcome to bring your own machine to have it
checked out and tuned up for tip-top operation or to just sew alongside others.
Remember that Omni Commons and Sudoroom policy is presently that EVERYONE MUST
WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES INSIDE THE BUILDING. (if you want to eat something
you should go outside)
in the past few weeks, we've had about 5-15 people over the course of the
evening, not including remote participants who logged in through telepresence
Jenny put it on the Omni calendar:
https://omnicommons.org/blog/events/hardware-hack-night-3-2022-03-01/
Here it is on the sudoroom page:
https://sudoroom.org/events/hardware-hack-night-2022-02-15/
that says 7PM but I try to be there earlier.
if you get to the door (at the corner of 48th and shattuck) and you can't get
in, call me or someone else who's there to let you in! Email me if you don't
have my phone number. Actually a great way to get our attention is to join the
video chat link at the end of this email!
We don't always hear the doorbell and I don't answer it anyway!
You should get on this sudoroom discuss mailinglist! click here:
https://sudoroom.org/lists/postorius/lists/sudo-discuss.sudoroom.org/
and you should donate monthly to sudoroom, monthly, by signing up here:
https://sudoroom.org/humans
and if you want to make a one-time donation, you can go here:
https://sudoroom.org/donate
if you can't make it in person: join the jitsi videochat with the room, and
chat with each other as well as a giant TV screen/speakerphone on the wall:
https://meet.waag.org/turtlesturtlesturtles
(don't worry if you're the only one in the "room", others will join eventually,
and if the camera is pointed at the floor, just yell until someone comes and
talks to you and then ask them to aim it back up into the room)
see you soon!

The Sunday preparation event went great!
Cassady helped shuck batteries (outside since it was a dangerous job)
Matt donated some bike lights I think
Alex designed a battery holder from PVC tubing
Michael heroically sorted through a giant pile of LED remote controllers,
tested them and soldered battery connectors to them
Alessandra wired up EIGHT little xmas light strings to batteries
Peter and Alex built TEN battery packs and wired them up
Marco tested the addressible lights and labeled them (we have tons!)
I did stuff too.
Who is available to help with the event on Wednesday? We're going to need a
lot of volunteers, apparently our instagram post got picked up by East Bay Bike
Party which has 16,000 members.....

FREE: Light Up Your Ride for the Bike Party!
Wanna trick out your bike with LED lights for the Friday Sept. 9 ride?
Sudoroom Hackerspace (at Omni Commons) is having an LED lighting workshop in
time for the next Bike Party!
Bring your bike, your curiosity and your enthusiasm to Omni Common’s Bike
Mutation Station, and we’ll help you get your bike lighting super snazzy for
the ride: we’ve got helpers, workspace, soldering and hot glue, and surplus LED
tape and strings that we can help help you attach to your bike.
If you’re got spare LED light strings or tape, even broken ones or “scraps”, or
even just simple bike safety lights you want to fix or install, bring them to
the event to use or to share!
This is a family-friendly activity, biking families are heartily invited.
WHAT: Sudoroom’s Bike Mutation Station - Light Up Your Ride
WHEN; Weds Sep 7 2022 from 5PM-11PM
WHERE: Omni Commons, 4799 Shattuck Ave., Oakland, CA 94609
HOW: Bring your bike and any parts / lights you may already have.
COST: Free, although donations to the Omni Commons gofundme are gladly
accepted: https://www.gofundme.com/f/save-the-omni
our goal for this event is to pull lots more people into the Omni and sudoroom
to grow our community! and we're going to have to put in a bunch of work to
make it happen but i think it will be fun

Hacksters.
If you ain't already heard there's a massive fish dieoff going on around
all over the bay due to oxygen getting sucked out of the water from a
combination of wastewater effluent and water that's too-goddam-warm. From
those who have been monitoring things like this during their entire
lifetime, they say they have never seen anything this horrible. Parts of
Lake Merritt look like a fish graveyard. Lots of large fish, skates,
sturgeon (the redwoods of the waters) washed up all over the bay.
If you want to see some visuals of the horror, here's some places to look:
https://www.instagram.com/stories/biodiversiphile/2917398642823053646/https://www.instagram.com/stories/damontighe/2917219146041116213/https://twitter.com/hashtag/LakeMerritt?src=hashtag_click
So. What do?
Hacker action:
The red tide algal bloom that was created due to the wastewater, etc seems
to be receding in Lake Merritt, and what few fish are left are congregating
in regions of Lake Merritt where there is a source of mechanical
oxygenation. So now is a good opportunity to head over there with a pump
and a battery/solar panel and bubble in some air around the fish.
Anyone want to meet over there today?

Peter and I want to host an event at sudoroom (and partially in the entrance
hall or ballroom/stage, since there will be a bunch of bikes and we'll need space)
where we will invite East Bay Bike Party facebook group members/instagram
followers to come and add LED lights to their bicycles.
The next EBBP ride is Friday September 9th in 8 days. I'm thinking this event
should be wednesday or thursday. We will need help from whoever's available!
I want to have a pre-event preparation day with volunteers from this list, to
go through the many LED supplies we have in sudoroom, and stuff we'll bring from
home, so that when the event happens, we have lights, batteries, and
switches/LED controllers labeled and ready to wire up and hot glue in place.
That pre-event preparation can be anytime people want to meet up, including
multiple days, so reply here if you're interested and available to meet up at
sudoroom Tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday, or Wednesday afternoon, to prepare for
this event. Don't worry if you aren't good with electronics, I'll show you
what we need to do!
Of course you'll be able to decorate your own bike too, but we want to focus on
hosting new people from the EBBP community so that they can learn about
sudoroom and the omni, and hopefully DONATE and join us.
So it's a community-building and expanding exercise. Who is available when?
Also if you have rolls of LED tape or LED christmas lights that you want to
donate, now's the time!
thank you

*Hey Sudo! *
Tonight about a dozen people met face-to-face to lay out Sudo Room’s plan
help save this hackerspace and Omni Commons. Below is a summary of the
situation with bulleted action items. If you want to help, just email me
and say, “I’d like to help ____” and I’ll point you in the right direction.
*Where we are*
The Omni Commons building was bought with money from an anonymous donor who
will begin foreclosure proceedings on our building unless we pay them $900k
by December 1st. Sudo Room is receiving ~$1,000 per month that it pays to
Omni, which is half of our obligation of $2k /mo. That $1000 comes from 49
paying members.
*What we’re going to do*
Money - Our target is to generate $3000 on a monthly basis by November 1st.
Ⓐ Renew or upgrade your membership. ** If all current members paid
$60 /mo our financial goal would be complete. **
Ⓐ Call a current or past member from our member list to let them
know what’s happening and ask them to renew or upgrade their monthly
donation.
Labor - We need hands.
Ⓐ Volunteer to host/Co-host an event.
Ⓐ Make or share a piece of promotional art on Instagram.
Ⓐ Volunteer to do 4 hours of work for the Omni funding working group.
Ⓐ Volunteer to help one day with the Omni facilities and building
maintenance working group
Ⓐ Volunteer to help setup, run, or clean up after a scheduled event
Influence - We’d like to call on influencers to boost Omni’s fund raiser
and drive traffic to Sudo Room’s upcoming events.
Ⓐ Suggest influencers to the Sudo media working group that you think
you could reach out to who might signal boost us. Do not reach out to them
until you’ve talked to someone in the media working group.
*This is not a comprehensive list of all you can do. *But it’s a starting
point. If you want to help but don’t know which of these to do, just email
me and say, *“I wanna help.”*
Cheers!
