This artist is visiting town and wanted to know if he could speak at Sudo Room or give away any art. I told him that we don't have anyone dedicated to organizing this kind of event, but that I'd ask if anyone wants to. It spans roughly four feet by five feet. I want to give it away in a raffle to anyone that shares a smile. This year being in a position of comfort, it pained me greatly to see everyone around me struggling with the rising costs of everything. Being from Guatemala I have a deep knowledge of plants and how to cultivate them. I volunteered my time at a giant garden in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, operated by the local food bank. I realized that I was focusing on the wrong things, while it was great to feed people, as a painter I couldn't stand by and not feed their souls. Given that fine Art is mostly out of reach from the working class, I decided that I would rather "sell" my painting for smiles. I want to provide people struggling for survival, to have some kind of hope. In our politicized world it is hard to be kind to others and not guarded. What we need is community and unity. I feel like this project gets at the core of what future artists will provide the world. If you would like I can provide files for ready-to-print media including a poster with a QR code and printable raffle tickets from anyone that does not have a 'smart' telephone. As well as the poem about the painting. I will be in the Bay Area during Nov.8th-Nov.23rd promoting my Art and the seven works of writing I completed during COVID lockdowns in Canada, while also working on my stand-up comedy and music at any open mics I can get into. I would be happy to give a brief Artists talk outlining the project and the future role of Artists as we fight to stay relevant in a world where AI threatens all our livelihoods. Attached are some media provided to me from the Saskatoon food bank while my painting was in their space. It's not required, but as a working Artist I would greatly appreciate any honorarium (if your organization can afford it) to help me with my travel expenses and shipping cost for the painting. Proposal: SUDO room joins the Apartheid Free Communities Campaign

Dear Sudoroom members and leaders, For the past 2.5 years I’ve been a Sudoroom “member” (I say this in quotations because I’ve been paying dues and attending but have never been endorsed as a full fledged member), but I’d like to make a proposal that Sudoroom become an Apartheid Free Community! I am writing as a member of SURJ Bay Area’s Palestine Solidarity Campaign. As a racial justice organization, SURJ believes it is our moral obligation to demand an end to Israel’s system of apartheid, its genocide in Gaza, and its increasing violent seizure of land in the West Bank. All this is paid for by our tax dollars, with the U.S. directly funding the Israeli government to the tune of $35 billion a year. We invite Sudoroom to join us to support the Palestinian people’s human rights, lives, and lands by taking the pledge to become an Apartheid-Free Community. Apartheid is a crime against humanity. As defined by the United Nations <https://legal.un.org/avl/ha/cspca/cspca.html>, apartheid includes: • Acts such as murder, torture, inhuman treatment, and arbitrary arrest of members of a racial group • Deliberate imposition upon the subjugated racial group of living conditions calculated to cause its physical destruction • Legislative measures that discriminate in the political, social, economic, and cultural fields We could fill pages with examples of how Israel’s treatment of Palestinians meets this criteria—from arrests and imprisonment without charges to the destruction of Gaza by bombing homes, hospitals, and schools and cutting off food, water, electricity and medical supplies. Palestinians are subjected to entirely different laws and judicial systems, without freedom of movement and economic opportunities. Inspired by the anti-apartheid movement that helped topple the white supremacist regime in South Africa, the Apartheid-Free Communities Campaign is bringing communities together to end apartheid in Israel/Palestine. We encourage Sudoroom to join the over 500 organizations across the globe, including cities, schools, faith-based communities, labor unions, businesses, and organizations, in taking the pledge to become an Apartheid-Free Community. Signing the Pledge makes a difference! It reflects public support to our elected officials when we press them to divest from Israeli violence. It reduces harm to Palestinian and Arab members of our community. It challenges the official narratives and expands the public consciousness around Palestine. Hi Sudoers: We’ve got two events coming up later this week: - Fri Jun 27 7PM-9PM: Sudo Room is hosting Denise Wong, Senior Statewide Membership Organizer, and at least seven others (Denny, Hoang, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Jorja, Kevin, and Matt) from Asian Pacific Environmental Network (https://www.apenaction.org/) for a meet-and-greet, tour of Omni Commons, and an informal clean-up and cull of our laptop cabinet: please help us give them a warm welcome. (Is anyone willing to tidy up Sudo Room between now and Friday evening, pretty please?) - Sat Jun 28 1PM-3PM: Thinkpads4All.org (a great bunch of high schoolers and college students) is holding a computer repair workshop at the Tarea Hall Pittman South Branch, Berkeley Public Library: https://berkeleypubliclibrary.libnet.info/event/13755420 Thinkpads4All brings laptops and disassembly tools to guide participants through taking a laptop apart – to change the battery, to upgrade memory, to replace the hard drive, etc. I’ve been attending their workshops to field general questions about tech repair. You’re welcome to attend just to participate in the Thinkpads4All workshop (and tell your friends too); you’re also welcome to join me in hanging out and fielding questions, or to bring your own laptop or other tech to work on. ice protests

There is an ICE protest at fruitvale tonight at 6pm so I will either be late to tonight's meetup or not able to make it depending on how things go. This brought up a project I was interested in building, a stingray detector. The instructions I found online require either a RTL-SDR v3 or a HackRF One. Before I buy one online, I was wondering if anyone has one they'd be willing to loan to this project? -- Patrick Clawson
