This would have less maintenance costs and effort than if we had a lending library of stuff we really want back (and we'd have to manage late fees etc) *a members-only "lending library" would help marketing our* - This could serve as a* big marketing plug for SudoRoom -* Hey be a member! Intro & project

Hello! I recently discovered Sudo Room while searching for some support on a project I'm working on, and just became a member. I'm excited this community exists! I'm creating an immersive art project for an event in New York in a couple of weeks. The premise is that participants are traveling between dimensions via an interdimensional travel agency but their mirror selves hijack the service. I am hoping to create a few things, including a voice modulator that I can mount inside a mask and a rumble pack kind of thing that can be attached to the bottom of a chair. I'd like to sync the vibration in the pack to an audio track, along with some lights. I'm a graphic designer by trade with a pretty diverse skillset, but sadly building something like this is not (yet) in my toolbox. I was planning on coming to the event on Tuesday night and would be very very grateful if anyone were willing to help me. In exchange I'd be happy to do a trade or to pay or make you cookies or write you a poem or petsit or teach others something if I can. Tonight: help fix the Toshiba TV

Hi sudoers: There’s a Toshiba 55l621U 55” 4K TV in sudoroom I’d like to put in service as the new jitsi and discord telepresence monitor. But it’s currently not working: it flashes on briefly and then goes out. Normally this would indicate a power supply issue, but I’ve done a little online research and some people online claim the problem might be a firmware issue, e.g. see https://forums.tomsguide.com/threads/toshiba-55l621u-wont-turn-on-properly.… Can you do some more online sleuthing and see if you come up with a plan of attack for fixing this TV? North doorway entrance to Omni

We need to fix the outdoor light above that entryway, and clean the area maybe with a power washer, and make the whole doorway more inviting. Volunteers? Have we thought about promoting ourselves as a low cost hackerspace? I'm hearing prices for similar (though more organized and cleaner hackerspace =P) and the memberships are running $150-200 minimum. Misfit Shine and other no-longer-supported wearables?

I just found my old Misfit Shine, an activity tracker from around 10 years ago. All its apps appear to be down. Does anybody know how to decode bluetooth signals, maybe we can get step data off of the thing and start using it again? Does anyone know of a wiki or something of defunct fitness gadgets and their open-source life support? lf such projects exist in the world? Maybe there are things for really popular old fitness trackers but I don't think the Misfit Shine ever got much traction lol. I used to wear my Shine in a beautiful sacred-geometry-looking necklace peripheral and I'd check it kinda like a pocketwatch. It doesn't have a display, but it could tell you the time and your % progress to your daily step goal via tiny little LED dots around the edge. It is a svelte little thing. Swarovski even did a collab to make a crystal version plus sparkly bracelets for it. I was the target market for such a gadget and probably the only one. lol

Sudo Room hours and access rules under new ownership

Hi everyone, Please read over the attached lease we signed with the new building owners, CALLI. CALLI recently asked us to list who our "Designated Individuals" will be. It looks like they are asking for up to 6 people, 3 with "extended access" from 9pm-12pm and 3 with 24 hr access. Until we choose "designated individuals" and work out the side door access with CALLI, *we are limited to using the building only during open hours from 7am-9pm (7 days a week). * It makes sense to me to have these spots open to those who host events and those who can be on call in case of emergency. One other change is that we should no longer be going into spaces outside of Sudo Room, bathroom, or passageways unless there is a public event or we get an ok from CALLI first. The sewing lab downstairs is also closed at the moment, since CC does not yet have a lease for the space. Happy to share more if needed! Paige

CCC 2024 Vouchers

Hello everyone, The Chaos Communications Congress (CCC) is happening again this year between December 27th and 30th in Hamburg. Does Sudo Room want to apply to get early bird tickets? If so, we need to request them ASAP by emailing 38C3-tickets(a)cccv.de Context The CCC have implemented a system by which "chaos community members" (e.g. hackerspace organizers, etc) can apply for vouchers. These vouchers allow community members to purchase tickets before the main sale dates. If used, the vouchers regenerate every 24 hours; this allows regional hackerspaces to buy tickets early-bird tickets to the main sale, with some rate limiting applied. Note that tickets are likely to sell out very fast during the main sale dates in November. As far as I'm aware, Sudo Room was not awarded such a voucher by the CCC admins. However, we should be able to apply for one, as per their documentation: > If you are part of a group (local CCC group, hackerspace from all over the world, etc.) that has not received any vouchers yet and you think you should get a voucher, please email us as soon as possible at 38C3-tickets [at] cccv [dot] de. It does not hurt to ask, and if we forgot you or agree that you should receive vouchers, we can only help you if we know it early on. Note the suggestion to contact CCC early. They announced this voucher system on 2024-10-17. The voucher pre-sale period started yesterday (2024-10-22) so we should contact them soon if people want a good chance of getting tickets!
