lead free solder sucks! and we are pretty low on non-lead-free solder.
If anyone has extra rolls of regular lead solder (often labeled "rosin
core" or Pb 63) and you want to store it at sudoroom, it will help.
people new to solder often get frustrated when they don't realize they're
trying to use lead-free solder, which sucks. Also the flux is toxic
compared to the literal pine sap that's in regular solder.

An idea - 💡 why is SudoRoom unique in this place and time and history and how has it uniquely impacted you?
Thinking of a series of blog posts with people (we can use anonymous pseudonyms)
There is nothing like SudoRoom and no place on the world that is like Oakland. We are the most original city in the United States 🇺🇸
If we express that it will also segue nicely into the unique projects we’ve made. I don’t think our mix of Brains and creativity can be found in quite the same way on another hackerspace !
I have been adding sudoRoom events to the Decentered Arts list -
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1eX21lRIMOl3LLUhanRptk0jWbKoyZJV…
It's a great place, and there are artists hanging out and doing slide shows
of their art in people's homes. I think a missed opportunity that I could
have done better on is reaching out to people in the arts who need a place
to work and play.
Artist are natural hackers. We do have a large ballroom, ideal places for
weekly meetups of slides and artist stuff. And artists often build stuff
with robots and explore areas like agumetnd reality.
*We should always focus on what makes us special*
if we only focus on "hackers" and biotech we have stiff competition, as
Noisebridge is more well-funded and has more active nights (we love them
though)
Also, as Peter explained to me, UC Berkeley and Laney nowadays have
extremely clean and well-equipped makerspace labs, and of course stuff is
closer on campus.
Due to gentrification we have also lost a large contingent of cool happy go
lucky artsy mathematician and computer science types, and we're not in
downtown Oakland.
But the arts scene is pretty big in Oakland, and artists are hackers!
I could have done better on this!

HARDWARE HACK NIGHT! THEME: OCTAVIA BUTLER
OCTAVIA BUTLER IS OUR THEME ON THIS HARDWARE HACK NIGHT AS WE MIX AI, PRINT
MAGAZINES, AND MORE!
*This week’s theme:* Print is hardware too! And what better muse can we
imagine than *Octavia Butler,* science fiction Goddess.
We’ll have a pre-hardware hack night presentation on creative ways to mix
print with electronics, use artificial intelligence in the most open source
and ethical way, and work on our SudoRoom print zine! Throw in some 3D
models into the mix too!
*e are inside the Omni Commons at 48th and Shattuck, see the link at the
end of this text to call in in case the doors are locked!*
○ *Projects:* can range from building course materials for teaching local
kids electronics to a robotic arm that draws, to light projection art, to
people building their own microchip boards! We provide the space, tools and
peer learning – you bring your project and enthusiasm!
*○ Group Sewing:* Learn to do simple mending or get help with technical
fabric and textile projects. In addition to regular machines our Sewing Lab
features heavy-duty industrial sewing machines and sergers. Our in house
sewing guru CC has worked for Academy or Art College, Tesla, SuitX, and
Zipline and has vast sewing machine repair and maintenance experience;

others.
*○ General Repair:* Fix it Clinic’s weekly Oakland residency: bring your
broken, non-functioning things – electronic gadgets, appliances, computers,
toys, sewing machines, fabric items, etc.– for assessment, disassembly, and
possible repair. We’ll provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to
help you disassemble and troubleshoot your item. First-time repairers and
“Fixing Families” are heartily invited. Learn more at

hey friends!
I *just* found out about this, might be fun, might be good networking,
etc. (And networking is always a good way to make people aware of omni and
our needs!)

I'm in NW oakland (near berkeley) and would love to catch a ride with

When I get here was really nice what if people went in mass to eighth Street and then took the train back to Omnicom in the afternoon maybe on the weekend and modified the fines that they found there

Hi Sudoers:
As always we successfully repaired lots of stuff at Hardware and
SoftWEAR Hack Night last week.
Typically on Tuesdays we have lots of new people visiting the space and
it can be intimidating if you don't know anyone and don't know where to
go and what to do.So can someone try to arrive early, say, 7:30 or so to
greet people for Sudoroom or sewing downstairs in the Media Lab and get
them started on their projects?
Extra Credit: 1) confirm that the VOIP phone number 442-252-8386 is
working by dialing it 2) put the Fixit Clinic sandwich sign out on the
sidewalk.
This week we have no item check-ins at https://bit.ly/itemcheckins but
we typically get lots of walk-ins. And Hilary writes that they are
bringing two Chromebooks to convert to Linux:
Hi Peter,
I have two old (5+ years) chromebooks that have passed their EOL
(2022 and 2021) but are still working ok (the trackpads tend to fail on
these cheap models). However, my senior clients (I volunteer at Ashby
Village) cannot use them to login to their Kaiser account (they get a
message "please update your chrome browser"!). …I remember reading about
a plan to refurbish that bypasses the EOL problem. Do you know anything
about this?
thanks
Hilary
1. Lenovo N22-20 ; Model Name 80SF
2. Samsung 501C ; Model Code XE501C13-K02US
Can someone look out for Hilary and get them started disassembling the
Chromebooks to remove the write protect screws? (The entire process is
outlined here: bit.ly/cbtuning )
Many thanks, -Peter
This is a great introduction to the opera for newcomers, and it's only $10
for a ticket to the SF Opera. Really fun, great stuff, and you get to dress
up too!

Hello SUDO Community,
I have an update on the foreclosure, I have attached a letter from CAST,
which also summarizes all of the updates. Basically Mulberry has told us:
1. X organization intends to pay off Mulberry Trusts’s loan to Omni
Commons of approximately $873,973.00
2. Here is a $10,000 non-refundable deposit to show we are serious.
3. Attach a copy of Omni's Board Resolution noting the agreement between
Omni and the organization paying off the loan.
4. If we do not hear from you by Tuesday, May 14th at 12pm, we will
direct the foreclosure trustee to file the paperwork.
CAST appears to be willing to work with us even if the foreclosure is
filed. But we also have the option to comply with Mulberry's requirements
and fundraise to purchase the building with funding from another source
within the 1 week timeframe. We will likely be entertaining proposals from
Peoples Programs and City In Motion at tomorrow's board meeting.
Please let me know if you have any questions, or ideas or insights.
Best
William
> I’m sorry for the delay on this. It turns out that the LOI should be
submitted by CAST to Omni Commons. We will turn around and submit this for
consideration by Omi Commons.
I wanted to highlight a few things:
-
I believe we have till Sunday evening or early Monday morning to share a
signed LOI for purchase to the Trust. This is to be accompanied by a
$10,000 check. We then have 24 additional hours to submit the full payment
to the Trust at which time the title is released to Omni Commons.
-
If this timing cannot be met, the foreclosure action will be undertaken
and there is 90 days to pay down the loan. The clock would essentially
start on Tuesday the 14th.
CAST has the ability to pay $10,000 for the deposit but not the balance
within 24 hours after that. Given this reality, we will let the Trust know
of our plans to pursue an LOI with Omni Commons and the need for additional
time to secure the balance of funds. This assumes that they advance to
foreclose.
- CAST would like to sign an LOI with Omni Commons as quickly as
possible so we can pursue funding to meet the 90 day foreclosure window. We
will not negotiate to assemble a partnership for purchase.
We encourage Omni Commons to explore all options.
-
People’s Program and City In Motion have both expressed interest and
have reached out to CAST. I will respond to both and encourage them to
speak with Omni Commons directly.
-
We recommend that you determine, separate from CAST, if their offers
are viable and you wish to sell the building to either of them. We don’t
want to hold you up if you are able and prefer to resolve the matter
immediately.
