I have put Steve on the agenda again for this wednesdays meeting. I don't feel
like we came to a healthy conclusion at the last formal meeting when the issues
were discussed, and i haven't heard anything from the mediation that I was
expecting to happen.
I have heard that there have been other incidents, and as much as I would like
to forget about this whole issue and pretend like there is no problem, it turns
out that there are people who have considered (and some who likely have)
avoiding sudoroom and/or the Omni entirely because of Steve's behavior, and I
think we need to talk about it more and address the issue properly.
If there are people at this meeting to talk about the issues then great, if not
then maybe we'll just wait for the next incident.
Note: I am not trying to get people to align against a person or vilify anyone,
but i think it's necessary to address behaviors that are incompatible with the
environment and community we want to maintain.

Hello all, Happy Sunday,
There is a person a person in Sudoroom who is begrudgingly refusing to
leave. His name is Cheyenne, whom was working on a model airplane earlier
in the night.
I informed him that since there are no other members around, and that he
would have to leave. He has been drinking quite heavy 3 beers, and stated
about 10 into is refusal to leave that he has a friend "up stairs", which
is why he doesn't have to leave.
I then asked him if that person was here, and he gave me a blank stare. I
then informed him again you are able to be here only if members are
present, especially at night. I then informed him that If you have a
problem bring it up with the community, at that he said go get the
community.
So I am writing this email. I have also woke this person up here already
twos before, and informed him each time this is not a place to sleep. I
think his intentions are good, but just need some guidance on how to use
the space more effectively.
Would somebody please, help moderate with him, as he thinks "I am just
fucking with him."
We are exiting now.

Hi friends & comrades:
Writing here to inform folks that the Temescal Business Improvement
District is currently conducting a campaign to transform the parcel where
the former Kasper's Hot Dogs stand is located into a public plaza, cutting
off the connection from Shattuck through to 47th St and Telegraph.
They are having open meetings re: the proposal on April 3rd, April 18th,
and a third date still TBD. I think it's important that longstanding and
potentially-impacted communities show up and represent!

Looking for someone interested in doing a paid hardware job in Palo Alto on
short notice.
Job Description:
There is an old (1996) intercom system in our building. When someone
presses my apartment number button at the gate, I get a "call" on a
phone-like device at home and press a button to unlock the door strike
downstairs.
Below is a link to the user-guide of the device:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/3044/Aiphone-Video-Sentry-
Pantilt-My-1cd.html?page=1#manual
I need to modify (rig/hack) it in such a way, that "open" button is
"pressed" automatically 3 seconds after incoming call. So that there is no
need to have person pickup the call and push the button.
The reason for that is that on certain days I need to let some people into
the building without being present there. So ideally I'd like this rig to
only work during certain windows (which I program manually) and not 24/7.
I'll provide more detail on how it should operate.
Hello,
I'm looking for a audio hardware savvy person who can talk to a friend of
mine on the topic. He's working on SPI-controlled interfaces and wrangling
with concepts like digital potentiometers, multiplexers and daisy chaining.
If there is someone who is knowledgable in this area please shoot me a
message.
Hi all,
I noticed that glass door by the vending machine. Is that for eventual installation there? I was thinking it could be used a board similar to Commons board in main room to track tasks with appropriate writing implement.

I uploaded the correct firmware to the machine (it was running firmware for a
machine with different physical attributes) and now it seems to print fine.
I didn't have the time to properly prepare the bed though, so there was some
non-adhesion, but the giant spool of filament is hooked up and it's ready to
go.
cura-lulzbot slicer is installed on the computer there, and "sudoroom white
ABS" filament is defined and should work. Pronterface (red icon) is the
program to use to drive the printer and run the gcode generated by cura.
don't do the SD card thing, it won't work and is terrible.

Hi all,
I neatened up the soldering area and have asked members to review what was
placed in the two bins to the lower left of the soldering area over the
next two weeks.
Once those two weeks are up and nobody claims any more items in the bin,
how do I transition the stuff in the bin to it's next life? That is,
recycle some, dispose of other stuff. This isn't really run of the mill
"trash" to be put in the black building-wide "trash" bins for disposal in a
landfill. Or maybe that is OK? Looking for some guidance here.
Thanks

Hello Sudoroom community,
I have finally have a project that I would like to pursue. I would like to
make Led clothes that are both reactive to sound, pressure, and default
pre-program pattern mode.
Aside from that... I was wondering if anybody had an extra microcontroller
in their collection that potentially is just gathering dust and not being
used (one preferably with bluetooth and small).
Knowing nothing about these things except that they operate on magic, and
probably a magic of maybe a lighter color... I will definitely dive right
in, and get to haXinG.
Yes I could order one, but due to my current financial disposition, I
thought I would reach out to the community first. As I also searched for
the microcontroller bin here at Sudoroom, and I think it is gone.
Thanks in advance

In Finland, Teaching Computer Science Without Computers - The Atlantic
Feb 24, 2017
When it comes to technology, it’s hard to evaluate just how well the Finnish approach is working. Computer science isn’t covered on international tests, and it’s a relatively recent addition to the curriculum. But Liukas and others point to Finnish inventions like Linux and Nokia as evidence that the country’s education system sparks the innovation and entrepreneurship that will drive the tech-based economy of the future. And while the United States is obviously a different beast than Finland, with a host of challenges, as Liukas tells the children she meets, “Even the biggest problems in the world are just tiny problems stuck together.”

Hello Sudoroom & Omnicommons,
Earlier in the day when nobody was in Sudoroom, I removed one table (from
the dual table island adjacent to CCL). I set it up outside, as I using it
as a worktable for hacking on my van). About two hours later Steven came
blaring out the rear doors, yelling at me specifically saying "Fuck you"
over again, and "You have taken my table". "Fuck you" You could have taken
any other table, but you have taken my fucking table."
For the first couple of minutes I was trying to decipher if he was serious
or saying in a joking manner, then he kept yelling at me about the table.
I then tried to explain to him that nobody was in Sudoroom and there are
many other places to work (including the other table that is still connect
to the island).
He then yelled at me some more, and Max from Phat Beets came out and said
they were having a meeting. He then continued to yell over Max after that
was stated. I then proceed to ask Steven for proof of ownership of the
table, and also how does he own it. I also then asked how does he own this
table that (I'm pretty sure) is owned by Sudoroom.
My arms are still shaking from the trauma that this has caused (as I do
suffer from PTSD, for many quite a few big, serious reasons).
I do feel these blows are a pattern of behavior that should not be ignored.
As when Sudomesh was having a meeting on Sunday, Steve blew up because
somebody damaged his trailer's lock, and was loud and disruptive about it
for many hours during that day.
There was also a time that his laptop got stolen, and he flipped and kicked
a set of plastic bins in Sudoroom.
This explosive behavior is hard for me to deal with because of my PTSD.
The biggest thing with what has just transpired, is that the safe space
policy was tremendously violated, toward me, over something that really
should not have been an issue at all.
I am using a table that no one was using, it did have Steven's laptop bag
stored/attached to one of the feet. I think that is the bigger unsaid
reason of why he is upset. His personal stuff was touched.
This event happen about 1:15pm, and I am still a little unnerved. Right
after this happened I talked to another Sudoroom member about advice on
what to do, and was also calmed a bit as well. He recommend an email.
I also plan not having any interaction with Steven, and will avoid him, and
ignore him further. I don't feel safe around him.
Thanks for reading

The Village has been informed that their first site is slated for seismic

greeting friends, family, allies, and supporters.
as you may know, The Village in Oakland was granted the land at e 12th and
23rd ave on oct 5, 2017 to manage an autonomous, community led program of
temporary emergency housing and services for the duration of the shelter
crisis declaration - which we estimate will be at least 6 years if not
more.
but in usual undermining form, the city is now forcing us to move off the
land by this november 2018 because cal trans and dept of transportation
will be demolishing the overpass that spans across the western side of the
parcel. according to the dept of transporation, this plan has been on the
books for the past 10 years
due to their total incompetence, we are negotiating for four new parcels of
land with the CIty Administration. And we will continue to build homes and
fill this current parcel up because 1. people needs homes and 2. all our
homes are designed to be forklifted. so once the city offers us new parcels
of lands that we can keep for the span of the shelter crisis declaration,
we will forklift them to those lands
also - two of our village leaders and residents were arrested for assault
and battery two weeks ago when they were defending themselves and the
encampment from a known predator. please read the attached statement from
the village and our legal team lead by attorney Walter Riley.
we are asking that those of you with an organization, faith based
institution or coalition etc please sign on to this statement as endorsers.
please contact me to let me know if your group will endorse us.
also, we be having a press conference and rally on the day the trial starts
Friday, March 16th 8:00 am in front of wiley manuel courthouse on
washington and 7th
its unbelieveable how much ill will, obstruction and attempted destruction
the city administration engages in to keep us from simply helping our most
vulnerable neighbors.

i 3d printed something last night and went home. if you're there now and can
remove the thing i printed (peel it off) and then spray the same area it was on
with the green hairspray, I will tell it to print again (from remote)
don't do this if the machine is moving and printing the new one :)
please reply to this email if you're going to do it, thank you!

i was trying to 3d print last night and ended up having to use my laptop, the
desktop computer used for 3d printing is DREADFULLY slow and i'm not sure why.
I was watching htop to look for CPU usage and memory usage and neither seemed
to be maxed out, and i wasn't doing that much stuff. Could it be a video card
issue?
if anyone has ideas or wants to jump on there and figure it out, or replace the
whole computer with a new box that's faster, please go ahead. You can use the
same hard drive as it's setup pretty good right now with 3d printing software
and static IP and all that.
thank you

I am not there but I hear from Rayc that Steve Leach is causing problems by
verbally attacking Rayc for moving a table in sudoroom.
Steve is calling it "his" table. And wouldn't stop yelling at Rayc even when
Max from Phat Beets asked him to stop interrupting their meeting (Rayc had
taken the table to the 48th street doors sidewalk area)
I had a disappointing interaction with Steve earlier this week when he rejected
my request to clean up the table he had been treating like his living room, but
I didn't realize that he also has a history of blowing up on people and
disrupting meetings, and now verbally attacking my friend.
I would like to ask Steve to take some time away from Omni and Sudoroom and/or
engage in mediation with me, and probably also with Rayc who has been attacked
in the past and doesn't deserve to be stressed out like this at Omni.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if someone could announce the upcoming Arduino classes on
twitter/facebook from the sudoroom account. Trying to get about ten
people to show up and test the class out. Usually, about half the people
confirmed to show up.

Thank you
Noah
Hi Steve,
I left a note Monday night on the table nearest the fridge, politely asking you
to clean up the table you've been using regularly. I left my email address in
case you wanted to discuss things with me.
Instead of cleaning up the table, you wrote a rude response on the same piece
of paper addressed to me.
That table was covered in disgusting spilled coffee and tobacco and bits of
garbage, a dead car battery, and various other random items. I put things away
and threw out the garbage, and I cleaned the table with water and paper towels,
and I left a note addressed to anyone who uses the table to keep it clear.
Sudoroom has had problems in the past with people "camping out" or creating
"man caves" at their favorite spot, and unfortunately treating part of sudoroom
as their living room or bedroom. This is not something I like to see, and I
hope you understand when I ask you specifically not to do this anymore.
If your activities in sudoroom are messy and involve spills or dirt on a table,
please clean up the table after you're done and throw away your trash.
And please don't leave any of your personal items on the tables at sudoroom.
I hope this will not continue to be a problem.
thank you,
-jake
Greetings!
For discussion & possible consensus at the next Omni Delegates Meeting on
March 1st:
I'd like to propose that Omni pay for an exhibition table ($100) at the Allied
Media Conference <https://www.alliedmedia.org/amc> this summer in Detroit.
I will be attending, albeit also as a representative for Sudo Mesh.
For those unfamiliar with the conference, it's one of the radder ones I've
heard of over the past decade - but have never attended myself. The theme
is essentially the intersection of social justice and media - what AMC
describes as "media-based organizing
<https://www.alliedmedia.org/media-based-organizing>," defined as "any
collaborative process that uses media, art, or technology to address the
roots of problems and advances holistic solutions towards a more just and
creative world." This is the 20th annual conf, which is always located in
*Detroit*, and takes place this summer from *June 14-17*.
Are any other collective members also planning to attend? Would you be
interested in sharing an Omni table to display info about your projects
and/or helping to staff the table for some shifts throughout the duration
of the conference?
*Please forward this email along to your collectives so we can assess our
capacity to participate!*
If there aren't a few other Omni collective members able to come and help
staff the table, perhaps Omni could share Sudo Mesh's table and collectives
could provide me with some of your handouts / brochures / flyers / arts /
etc for display
Please send a reply to me or to discuss(a)omnicommons.org if you'd like to
help with organizing around AMC!

REMINDER: we are starting work now to close up the walls in the
wheelchair bathroom. Today and tomorrow. Stop by if you'd like to
help!

Might there be a locker space, or half-locker space, available to
use or rent?
Nick and I both tinker on old tube audio amplifiers, and would like to
bring in some projects. The main items of concern are old vacuum tubes.
They're fragile, and kind of a pain to replace.

K
Dear friends,
At last night's delegates meeting we spent over an hour talking about
RunningWolf. The delegates did not make any new consensus decisions,
but we did review the status quo at length and it now seems clear to
me that:
* Nobody is satisfied with how mediation went
* Many are unsatisfied with his signed statement
* Several people feel that he has personally harassed and threatened them
* When I approved ZRW's key card last week, I acted too quickly
* If his return had been directly proposed to delegates, several would
have blocked
* Many people who I value and care about feel *very* strongly that
they cannot share space with ZRW, to the point where including ZRW
would implicitly exclude them
After hearing all these things, I decided the best thing would be to
revoke his card. Julian and I went upstairs and told him. It was
raining, so we didn't ask him to leave right away, but we told him
that next time he left, he would not be able to get back in.
We spoke for over an hour, and I tried my best to be on good terms
given the circumstances. This was my first extended interaction with
the man, and I understand now why his situation has been so
controversial and so insidious. He talks a good talk about Berkeley
politics, pollution and indigenous sovereignty, he has done real
admirable work as a tree-sitter, and he is an accomplished street
artist whose medicine wheels on every bike path have added joy to
countless lives in our city. He is unquestionably an elder, and
deserves to be treated as such.
He's also a petty, self-centered, delusional liar who seems completely
unable to take any criticism or undergo any of the necessary personal
growth or accountability of a "restorative" or "transformative"
justice process. I see a man who cannot work meaningfully with others,
who's made a long career out of burning bridges, for whom Omni is just
one more proxy battle in his war against masonic lodges, UC regents,
and anybody else he can blame for his conflicts other than himself and
his own behavior. He told me directly that he has no respect for any
mediation process, and doesn't care about how anybody else feels. He
plainly admitted to making threats to break our windows, and to
actually doing similar acts of sabotage (such as cutting off Berkeley
Liberation Radio's antenna) although he claimed he never followed
through on the threat against Omni, saying "I never do just one
window".
He claims to speak for a Real Oakland of vigilante justice which will
rise out of the woodwork to avenge him. Don't buy it. Don't let him
appropriate black struggle when all it means is glorifying gang
violence and throwing the N word around. Don't let him insult his own
ancestors by acting a fool in their name. And most of all, don't let
him distract us from all the other important work we can be doing
besides enabling his abuse.
I tried to give him my best, but he doesn't want it. I am done. I will
no longer waste any time advocating for him to be inside Omni. I am
content with this being the end of this road.
With love and solidarity,
Yar
Do we want to do this? I'm not even sure who would sign their form.

Subject: [sudo-info] Request to use your space to shoot an interview
To: info(a)sudoroom.org
Hello!
My name is Frank and I'm a senior producer for Vox's new series of
explainers for Netflix.
I'm coming to San Francisco Tuesday evening to shoot an interview with
Jackson Palmer, the creator of Dogecoin for our episode about
cryptocurrencies early next week.
I'm looking for spaces where we could shoot and Jackson suggested that
I reach out to hackerspaces in the area. Sudo Room looks especially
cool and I would love to shoot there!
We would need Sudo Room to sign a location release allowing it to
appear on Netflix, which I attached to this email for you to review. I
would also need relative quiet during the shoot.
I apologize about the short notice, but if these conditions don't
sound to onerous, I would be thrilled to interview Jackson in such an
awesome setting.

Subject: [sudo-info] Free Coding Classes at the Berkeley Public Library
To: "info(a)sudoroom.org" <info(a)sudoroom.org>
Hello,
My name is Dan Beringhele and I’m a Librarian at the Berkeley Public
Library. We are hosting a 10-week coding class here at the Central
Library beginning this Saturday. I’m really reaching out because I’m
amazed by the work that Sudo Room does and I’m hoping that you can
help spread the word about the class. It is a beginner’s level class
but I think it may have a wider appeal as well. All are welcome, no
need to sign up. Just come to the Library this Saturday at 10:30 am.
Feel free to reach out with any questions.

it starts out dystopic but then it gets good.
a lot of people linked to this story when Amazon recently patented a
wrist-motion tracking thing that will obviously be used for the same kind of
dystopic BS in this story.
and there's transhumanist stuff in there.

Wanted to report that Running Wolf was seen in the Omni Commons tonight, Thursday, Feb 22nd at around 9pm using the upstairs computers. I and others at Javascript night discussed asking him to leave, but decided not to because of the cold weather and wanted to avoid conflict. There were only five of us and few others in the building. Please relay this to omni-discuss and the building working group.
Thanks,
