Sudo Members,
My name's Segue and I live nearby. I've visited Sudo room at least 1/2 doz times but I'm not an official member.
I would like to do 1 or more presentations in the coming week and a half at SudoRoom if this is okay with you. The name of the presentation would be (roughly) "The True Nature of Money and the Imminent Global Economic Shift" or something to that effect. There are laws going into effect on July 1st that may have strong repercussions on our already fading position as …
[View More]the global reserve currency. So, yeah, would like to use the 'crisis' to motivate people to get curious about all this stuff, as it has far more of an impact on our daily lives than most people realize.
Would this be something that you guys would be into having at Sudo Room? If so, would Tues and Thurs Eve and Sunday afternoon work? The event would be booked out as 2hrs. Exact start time TBD but the usual is like 7-9 for eves and maybe 5-7 for sunday? Or, if Thursday night is too crazy (the calendar looks full), I could do Friday night, say... 6:30p to 8:30pm. This is for June, this coming week!
This presentation is focused on the Problem, but I would also like to do a Solution discussion on Sunday only, and in this case, the Problem presentation should start at 4pm and then the Solution Discussion would start at 6:30pm. That Presentation/Discussion could be called: "What to Do? Solutions to the Economic Crisis"
I will be sharing images/video from MacBook, so if you guys have a projector and a screen of some sort, this would be super useful.
Let me know if this is of interest to you. If so, you have permission to put me on your calendar for any of these 4 dates and to broadcast it widely. Then, of course, also please notify me ASAP and I'll be there and ready to roll! This is only the second time for me doing this (once at BurningMan in 2012) so I'm okay if there are not a ton of people at the first one!
If there's some interest at these presentations, I might do more presentations/discussions in July, but this is TBD!

Someone already asked about using it as 3D printing material on the open
manufacturing list and 4ndy said:
"If you somehow had an extruder that could use a strip of plastic that
buckles under the slightest push... but even then PET is rubbish for
FDM/FFF printing due to its high shrinkage compared to PLA. Short answer:
no."
That's a good point. I wonder if it would be possible to create a print
extruder that works for this. It may be that …
[View More]the shrinkage happens before
extrusion, such that little or no shrinkage will occur in the print.

Packing up Sudoroom is so much fun. It's the best party. If you're not
here, you're missing the most fun thing ever.
Hi,
Does anyone out there have a uSATA hard drive they don't need? I got a
Thinkpad X301 and it only can use a uSATA disk, no place for anything else.
It's also known as a "microSATA"
thank you

you can read all about the recent repair of the TAZ 3d printer on the Sudo
Prints list, found here:
http://lists.sudoroom.org/listinfo/sudo-prints
in future i hope to add circuitboard printing to this list, which is for
all types of 2D and 3D printing done at sudoroom, and the equipment that
makes it possible.

Hey all,
We've made a lot of progress, but still quite a bit of packing to do,
we could use your hands!
Drop in tonight or tomorrow!

I wonder if the Center has tried to contact OTX West? Their mission is
to supply the youth of Oakland with computers.
http://www.otxwest.org/
I've gone to them when trying to collect peripherals and computer cords
to send to Cuba, Bolivia & Haiti, they are nice folks. I haven't paid
them a visit since XP became unsupported, I wonder what OS they are
blowing on the machines these days.
As noted, the ACCRC is also a resource. They give …
[View More]away a lot of
machines, even if James Burgett can be a prickly codger. (Infomed-USA
used to also get hardware from him before we somehow pissed him off).
If we want to send machines to the Youth Center I think we should check
the machines out first (run smartmontools and memtest for HD & memory)
and blow Linux onto them (those old machines probably won't handle Win7
(even if we had licenses) and anyway we should be encouraging use of
open sores). I can help with the hardware analysis and have figured out
a good way to blow a standard customized Linux image onto old boxen.

On the issue of giving computers to deserving folks, the Pastors For
Peace are sending down their 25th convoy of material support to Cuba,
they are coming through in mid-July. This year they are trying to get
building materials and bike in particular. I'm planning on sending a
dozen or so computers. Contact me if you are interested in donating.

Once things have settled down a bit at the new location I'm going to
propose having a regular Linux InstallFest at the sudoroom, maybe
Fridays (so I can duck out and pick up my pizzas and bring some back to
the room) or perhaps after the Cryptoparties. I've got a collection of
installation ISOs on DVD/CDs and USB sticks
(http://www.pendrivelinux.com/multiboot-create-a-multiboot-usb-from-linux/
Multisystem is a good way to get multiple ISOs on to a single USB
stick). I can also set up a proxy to locally mirror deb archives for
faster downloads and updating. I use approx these days, but am also
familiar with apt-cacher. squid-deb-proxy sounds intriguing, as well,
and I wouldn't mind trying to set that up.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/3503/best-way-to-cache-apt-downloads-on-a-lan
I think it would be good to have a standard time when folks could come
to the room to get help with their open source issues from those of us
who have been riding the GNU for a while now.
Alright, time to get off of my vertical smile and see how many
receptacles I can find for the great enboxening.

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Hi Neon Leon, We have a stack of
computers at the space that we'd love to put in the hands of Oakland
kids - I am not sure what state they are in, but they are there and no
one has stated any interest in setting them up at the space. We also
have lots of peripherals that could be of use in a computer lab. Is
there someone with the school who can come and help sort through them
and find/put together working ones this weekend? We will be moving soon
so getting those computers over to the youth center in the next week
would be great. Cheers, Hol on Jun 20, 2014, Steve Berl
