Awesome Orchestra has withdrawn their request for the Omni Ballroom for Feb 20 so that
date is now available.

Erik, some folks at the Omni are also putting together an oral history of the building,
in part as research needed to get Omni's conditional use permit reinstated with the
city (who lost the prior CUP in 1989). Would you be interested in doing an interview with
me about your memories of the club in the 80s?
Looks like a rad event!

don't worry about the second tuesday thing.. just say that Jake from Sudoroom
wants to sponsor this event and that we want to reserve the ballroom for that
date. As soon as your request comes in, i'll push to get it confirmed.
I'm assuming we can collect donations of some kind to give to the Omni for use
of the space? Just whatever is normal for an event like this at Gilman i
guess. That's one of the questions on the form you'll see at the above link.
Also, sudoroom will be able to supply a lot of cool electronic STUFF for the
tables, so i think people who come to this will be very pleased.

note: sudoroom constantly has a big e-waste pile, and if you think the event
will add to the unwanted electronics pile, we should plan for someone to take a
truck to Universal Waste in Fruitvale after the event to clear it all out.

I hope you have been well. Mitch Altman gave me this email address, and I
have been trying to reach you over the past couple of years using what I
think must be out-of-date contact information.
I wanted to ask about how Sudo Room is doing and all that, but Mitch says
it’s thriving. I’ve been to the website a couple of times and was amazed and
amused to find out that (according to the website anyway) you are in the old
Omni building. I worked for Nady Systems from 1986 to 1991, right during the
time when it was a thriving venue for at first a pretty cool eclectic mix,
and then later, pay-to-play hair metal.
Anyway, 924 Gilman told me that the traditional 3rd Sunday in February would
be fine, and I printed up a pile of handbills and started to go around
promoting the event, an event page on Facebook that got really good
attention, and my first physical stop being Ace Monster Toys’ open house
night. I really want to lay into the “DIY Electronics” part this year, as we
have attracted plenty of the “Musicians” part in the past couple of them and
I want to balance it out and get back to the kind of thing where you and
Mitch met, get the maker/hardware hacker/tinkerers interested. I have a
variety of surplus components to give away, a bit of redistribution that I
figured you would like.
Anyway, right after my visit to Ace, Gilman’s booker told me that the day
they had promised had been taken for an event that the landlord (The Caning
Shop) was doing, and suggested February 26th, the following Sunday.
Now they are telling me that there’s something going on that day and how
about Saturday the 25th?
It’s just a month away at this point and I need to be able to promote it with
a definite date, and I would like a Sunday.
My question: is there enough space for it at Sudo Room, and would you be
interested in hosting the event this year? It would be on Sunday the 19th
(the original date) or Sunday the 26th.
Please let me know yea or nay ASAP, as our time frame to promote the event is
ever narrowing.
