Hey all,
I got some messages sent directly to my email, not sure why not sent
to the thread to keep conversation going, but anyways.
They all mention using the old laptops' components that live at
sudoroom instead of using raspberry pis. Although I believe that is:
* A thoughtful option regarding upcycling what we already have
* A great way to learn about computer parts and how to reuse them
I also see some issues:
* That requires a deeper confidence/knowledge that not everyone
getting into cyberdecks rn will have. The beauty of a raspberry pi is
to be accessible as a gateway to learn more complicated things.
* Most tutorials I see on the internet about cyberdecks are using
raspberry pi. And those are VERY didactic/straightforward. TBD if the
ones with computer parts will be like that. Because that's how newbies
learn new things now, unless we have a real workshop IRL about this.
So I'd like us all to put ourselves in the shoes of those who are NOT
familiar with hacking/making/hardware/cyberdecks (as we always should,
IMHO), and think again how we can sponsor this.
