do we have any more?
what about a hacksaw?

It looks like trying to fix it that way will create a blade that is about
1/4" too short... however, this might be a more economical way to have
blades in the future.

Yes. It does shorten the blade, so it depends on how much extra there was
to start with. Depending on the saw, there can be a good inch or so that
can be taken up by the tension screw.
