Good morning,
I don't know a lot of the people on these lists since I'm intensely
antisocial & rarely attend parties, *but* I do volunteer regularly for
Volx Kuche---San Francisco's premier free dinner club + punk cabaret; see
www.vokusf.org for location & times. The first VK of next month falls on
Friday, March 14th, aka Pi Day. I have been enlisted to design a pi zine
for the occasion, which I am happy to do; in addition, I thought we might
serve pie for the event. What this idea lacks in originality, it will
surely make up for in delicious-ness. Stan-Oz suggested approaching
bakeries in the area for donations. I am willing to visit places in person
& request donations, give background on the event, etc., but in the
interest of saving time & effort, it makes sense to tap the community info
bank for suggestions beforehand. So, if you can suggest a bakery or other
local biz that may be amenable to donating pi---say, enough to serve 50 to
100 people---to a free, all-volunteer event such as "the People's
Kitchen," do please come at me w/ it. Ideally in San Francisco, as my
visits to the East Bay are infrequently made & frequently ridiculous. Of
course, we welcome the possibility of anyone else situated in Oakland or
elsewhere in the B.A. willing & able to drum up donations, as well.
Also, I would like to install a layout program such as InDesign or Scribus
on my laptop, & am rather lacking in funds. If you can read between these
lines & have help to offer, it will greatly facilitate our production of
the pi zinelet. Although it is entirely possible, & may in fact be fun, to
resort to the ancient cut-&-paste-by-hand method for the zine as well.
Thanks & have a flaky, golden, fruit-filled day.

Not all who wander are lost.
Wow I don't recognize MacArthur Bart anymore .. That whole mono neighborhood is changing!
http://oaklandwiki.org/MacArthur_Transit_Village
MacArthur Transit Village
MacArthur Transit Village 2
MacArthur Transit Village (MTV) is a mixed-use Transit-Oriented Development now under construction adjacent to, and on top of, the former surface parking lot for the MacArthur BART Station in North Oakland.
According to the official website, the project will "provide 624 new housing units on a 7.76 acre site, of which 516 units will be market rate and 108 units will be below market rate. The development includes construction of five buildings for high density, multifamily housing, with a new 478-space parking garage for BART patrons and guests. In addition, 42,500 square feet of local commercial and retail space will be constructed, along with 5,000 square feet of space for community use. Phase 1 of construction will commence in May 2011, which includes demolition of adjacent motel properties, along with construction of the BART parking garage and site infrastructure. Construction of affordable apartments will follow in 2012, along with development of the remaining parcels phased from 2014 through 2021." 1
UPDATE: On Thursday, September 19, 2013 construction begins on Phase 2 of the MacArthur Transit Village at the MacArthur BART Station. Phase 2 is a new 90-unit affordable housing community developed by BRIDGE Housing. The project is located in the southeastern section of the existing parking lot. Completion is planned for spring 2015. Construction of the new housing structure and new streets will close a large section of the existing parking lot. BART riders should use other means to reach the MacArthur BART Station rather than driving, such as free shuttles or AC Transit buses. A brochure with information on alternatives is available at the MacArthur BART Station or can be viewed or downloaded at http://macarthurstation.com.
In late October, a portion of the BART Plaza will close for reconstruction. The reconstruction will include a new bike storage facility and additional security features. The closed area will not block access to or from the BART Station. For more information, please visit http://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2013/news20130911.aspx.

I dont like regimentation probably more than the next person, however I see a need to be a bit more methodical in our organizing of activities so thst we can become more accountable to one another.
I see this as helping to build bonds without stressing as a lot of the logistics work can be done if we follow this format:
SUDO Registry
Tue.2:28am Oct.8.2013
Wheres the sudo registry?
name
contact info :
E.mail
Phone ( for txting)
Best times to contact members : "Anytime" is an unaccountable cop.out :(
Interests
Projects they are working on currently
When those projects are sceduled for work on
Resources available to help make the project successful
Resources required to maje the project
successful
Transparency is one of our principles, so we should utilize it for its positive uses and become commited / accountable to one another as we work together and share space, time, and resources.
I think this should go to the list in a truncated form asking people what they think of the idea.
Yes I will work on making a wiki out of this,,,

Hello Sudo-folk,
I'm looking for someone who can help out a small school set up and install
Moodle. Is this you?
Cheers,
Anca.

I talked about this a bit at last week's meeting. I am putting together
a music show featuring Sole, Pat the Bunny, 40 Thieves/Eddie Falcon, and
The Last Barfighter. Sole and Pat are coming in for a couple days in
Denver and they asked me to try to find a venue . They preferred not to
have it at a traditional venue (bar), they want it to be all-ages, able
to have at least 100 people.
Elliot from the Hot Mess is working on this with me. We were going to
have this at the RCA, but they are not trying to have any events there
now. Elliot says he talked to somebody from Sudo, and now our priority
is to be able to confirm a date.
At the meeting, you told me to email your landlord. I can do this, but I
feel like it might be better if it came from someone who has a
relationship with the landlord. We can have a small crew available for
ticketing, emcee, security (if needed), cleanup.
Here is a summary of what is being planned for:
Music show from 8pm to no later than midnight (likely 11pm) with four
artists (two local).
$5-10 tickets (no one turned away for lack of funds)
All ages
BYOB
Expecting about 100 for audience.
It would be great if someone could ask your landlord about this.. I can
compose a letter or your can. Or if you think it would be OK, I can
email a letter myself, but I would need the contact information.
Thank you, I hope this works out. Please email me with any questions,
comments, concerns.

The city council is voting tomorrow on the Domain Awareness Center.
There will be a protest at Oscar Grant Plaza at 6:30 pm. There are strong arguments to wear a mask:
1) A protest is intended to show support or opposition to an idea. It's not about the individual, just the message.
2) A mask may prevent you from getting fired from your job: http://pastebin.com/MMSaL5Pc
3) A mask may suggest to the city council that if they continue with this center that wearing a mask will become a style (in a similar manner as sunglasses) in Oakland and therefore only further complicate law enforcement.
In other words......... I hope I don't see you there tomorrow.

...I feel really awkward proposing this, but lately it seems like the thing
to do with some of the newcomers goes something like this-
1. Get loaded somewhere else
2. Head to Sudo
3. ???
4. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!!! (and/or pass out, depending)
As someone who used to do this on a nightly basis, I kind of get it but
even in my finer moments I don't think I would have shown up at a space
where people were trying to work and expected a warm reception. And, as
someone who has chosen to embrace sobriety I have no quarrel with people
who haven't, but since I haven't really developed the patience required to
deal with drunk folks yet I tend to retreat or act somewhat distant towards
them. Sometimes this results in them chasing me around the space because
they want to "hang out," especially if I'm working on music stuff...that's
okay if they can do so in a non-disruptive manner, but I'm kind of screwed
if they can't so I'm more or less forced to deal with them or (sacre bleu!)
leave Sudo to try to get shit done.
What I am NOT proposing is making Sudo a sober space. If it comes to that,
sure, but as a first measure I think it's heavy handed and doesn't really
serve the interests of the community that can have a couple of beers and
function equally well as without. I think what I am asking is that we, as a
group, need to send the message that Sudo is not the afterparty, and that
if it continues to be treated like one that the individuals involved will
be asked to leave for the night. I think being somewhat forgiving in this
situation is probably not a bad idea...and of course, repeated behavior of
this sort will probably be brought up in a meeting (i.e. is having *****
around worth it?) and appropriate action will be taken.
Needless to say, Sudo/BAPS events would be more or less exempt since the
actual drinking will be taking place here and any situations that arise
from said drinking will be dealt with as needed.
I would like to hear what everyone has to say about this.
