I said "your 'community' space," but honestly, I still want this to be my space, too. I hardly ever make a fuss about any of this stuff because it's all so futile, you know? but in this case, I really want to make my point clear: I think we should rescind our action against Rannette. I think she's been treated unfairly. Even if she is "aggressive" towards you or your compatriots, I don't think we need white dudes policing our space of black women's bodies. Matt, you claim to have acted in another's interest and you offer an injured third party -- let them speak for themselves, because I don't think it's your place right now. If there was a violent incident that threatened our space, let's hear it from a witness or an involved party. "Something Happened" is not good enough. Otherwise "but above all the Omni Commons must maintain a safe, welcoming environment" seems to fly directly in the face of the lived experience of too many black people.

Call for Facilitators / Participants in a sudo Men's Group

Hey all, I wanted to reach out for some feedback. Seeking folks who would want to facilitate or participate in a men's group. I've previously participated in small groups like this and found them beneficial for various reasons. I would like to see if folks have had similar or different experiences. The way I'm thinking about this would culminate in something like a regular meeting for men in the sudo room community to discuss relevant issues including those of identity, oppression, privilege, patriarchy, gender, sexuality, stereotypes, safe space, and mutual support. This may not be the best or even a viable path to approach these topics, but I wanted to throw it out there to see if there is any interest. Thanks, Matt

It's not huge as SEM's go, but definitely not desktop - more like "small room sized". And it would obviously need some dedicated person to keep it in good running condition. It is however almost brand new, and currently *running*, at <5nm resolution! Beam Services Inc is down in Pleasanton, so I guess interested parties could potentially go and have a look at the system. This kind of equipment would be a significant commitment and investment in time and effort on our part, so let's coordinate on this shall we? hacker house moving out today

Helping a friend close down a West Oak hacker house today. There's a ton of (nice) furniture, a couple monitors, grocery/pantry items, and stacks upon stacks of quality, basically brand new mattresses and beds. They are getting rid of everything today. I immediately thought of Sudo/Omni; maybe the org or some individuals could use some stuff. air compressor and plasma cutter

sudoroom has a nice air compressor. some pictures here: http://imgur.com/gallery/QBOG4 here is the manual: http://www.chpower.com/IMAGES/pdfs/manual00/611301_0504.pdf I am presently trying to figure out why it leaks air from a valve whose purpose I don't understand. In the meantime it is working now. My friend is offering to lend us a plasma cutter, which is like a welder but cuts metal instead of welding it together. It uses electricity and compressed air, and when we attach the business end to the robot, we will be able to cut precise shapes out of steel of significant thickness, making the laser cutter very jealous. can someone print out the air compressor manual (PDF link above) and perhaps put it in a binder so it doesn't get grimy? We can attach it to the compressor somehow. -jake

wanna box truck?

yesterday sudoroom was offered an ex-uhaul box truck for donation. we would be giving a donation receipt to someone else (the owner) & give the person/group making the offer to us a shared use agreement. it might be in need of minor repair but otherwise drives. the offerer claims to have somewhere to park it in case we don't want to deal with it & wants shared access as part of the deal. the offerer's group's 501c3 fell through & need to provide a donation receipt to the actual donor. i feel it would be an asset to the omni community as would a storage space for omni tables/chairs/etc
