a warm place to hack

we are all starving for a warm place to hack, and sudoroom attendance is reduced for obvious reasons. what we need is a warm room to hack, and i propose the following: we tarp above the server balcony of sudoroom, and seal the whole thing like a room. To enter from the steps you have to pull back a magnetically sealed thing or maybe we can make a hinged door thing, i don't know. all the heat from the servers (and people hacking in there) will be conserved and it will be social in addition to being warm. I have some lighting that might be appropriate, to help people feel like they're in the sun, as well as providing warmth. also it will be a nice chance to clean up that area and move things around and make it a hacking zone again. HOW CAN I HELP? if you have tarps or sail material or blankets or rope or anything you think could be used to close off the area, let's talk about it to see if it will work. If you bring it in on your own I hope you install it too - it might take some carpentry or something to have places to attach it. It sounds like kind of a noisy, hellish place, what with the server noise, the claustrophobia, to say nothing of the high density of geeks, but I guess I'm pretty well insulated so I'm failing to see the charm. That typed, I do have a truck for transport, and a few spare tarps left over from Occupy as well as some spare lights and power strips that would be required to make such a place semi-habitable. Give me a holler if and when you want this to happen. Friends of Goto to gather sat 1/9 @ 7pm

Hey all, Please join me this Saturday 1/9 at 7pm at Omni Commons to share and reflect on the untimely passing of a good friend. I'd really like to discuss informally with others some ways to respond to this situation in our community. For anyone who had the privilege to meet Goto during his brief visits to Omni Commons and Sudo Room this fall, I have some sad news: On November 14th of 2015, Goto and another person were found off the 101 in Richardson Grove near Garberville. They had been ejected from a car that came off the highway heading North. The highway patrol was unable to identify which of the two men were driving and no criminal charges were pursued. Goto was found deceased on the scene, the other person was seriously injured and transferred to a hospital. According to the Humboldt County Coroner I spoke with, this second person was in a coma and probably did not come out of it. The CHP was not willing / able to provide me with any contact information of this other person or their family, and I have been unable to proceed further on this thread. I was also informed by the Coroner that there was alcohol found in the blood of both victims. The CHP reported alcohol was found in the car as well. It is certainly unclear what exactly happened, what precisely led to this crash, but regardless, this is a very sad tragedy, and most importantly, Goto will be sorely missed. For those that did not know him, you are very welcome to join and learn about a dear friend and comrade who has left us in body, but not in spirit. Love and solidarity, Matt Senate

Origin and Group History THE MESS is a sketch comedy troupe based in California's East Bay with writers, dancers, singers, actors, and mischief makers from all over the globe. In Fall 2011, Renée LeVesque and a group of theatre folks began hosting a weekly pirate radio show on Radio Valencia in San Francisco. What they quickly discovered is that doing live action theatre was their real passion. They began asking the question, what if instead of trying to convince a big theatre to do a show we liked, we just did our own show with people whose work we enjoyed? What if we cast people who were not only great actors, but willing to take risks and perform parts they normally wouldn’t get cast for? What if we created a room for comedy writers that was welcoming, where they could collaborate on scripts rather than compete for stage time? The group rented space for trade at Chez Poulet, a warehouse in San Francisco’s mission district. They rehearsed, pooled their resources, and on Valentine’s Day 2012 put on their very first show at Stage Werx SF. As of 2015, the group has moved to the East Bay, expanded its troupe to include over 30 performers, directors, writers, and designers. Each show is a collective effort with each member contributing to the performance from its creation to final bow. Everyone works, everyone participates, everyone has a seat at the comedy table with a focus on performances that celebrate the Bay Area’s diversity, and create immersive comedic experiences with a lean toward the theatrical. 3. How would you participate in and contribute to the Omni? THE MESS would like to be the house performance troupe at The Omni Commons. To us that would mean participating in open houses, community outreach and any other collective activity that The Omni hosts. We would also have representatives participate in improving/repairing the Ballroom Space, the Disco Room, and helping to maintain the other common spaces. THE MESS would also host workshops, classes, and performances at The Omni to increase interest and appreciation for the space itself and for the collectives that call the Omni home. 4. How does your collective support itself financially? What would you be able to afford in rent? THE MESS sells tickets to each show at the rate of $15 plus (sliding scale). Our ticket sales average 40- 60 people per performance. We plan to use ticket sale revenue to help the Omni with its expenses. At present, we can afford $300 per month total plus a share of the common expenses such as utilities. If we are able to increase programing in 2016 (shows, workshops, etc.), we would be able to discuss contributing more. 5. What are your space needs, especially for dedicated (locked or not shared) space? Ideally, we would like to steward, share and help improve and maintain the Disco Room. Essentially, our typical needs are average 3 to 4 nights a week in the evenings from approximately 6PM to 10PM. In addition, we would volunteer to help coordinate the calendar for other events that the Collective, Delegates and Commons wish to hold in the Disco room. Improvements, we would like to build include a locked cabinet (approx. 8 feet x 8 feet) in the Disco Room to store equipment, props, and costumes. Any other improvements we can help assist to support the Omni in renting out the space to other groups in the community. 6. Statement of Solidarity We, The Mess agree and are committed to the Omni Collective’s shared political vision of more equitable communing of resources and meeting human needs over private interests or corporate profit. Hardware Hacking Tuesday sub this week?

raspberry pi on big tv

i setup a raspberry pi connected to the big TV in sudoroom if you need keyboard/mouse action it's plugged into #1 on the keyboard/video/mouse switch on the red wooden standing desk (next to the big TV) although the LCD monitor of that switch is not connected to the pi. you can ssh into it at its static IP which is 100.64.64.27 learn how to make it display things: hint, DISPLAY=:0 mplayer -vo none recording.wav the speakers work :)

need power strips for sudoroom

this is a simple request. If you have extra power strips, we could use them at sudoroom. presently the 3d printer desk does not have enough outlets, and neither does the computer building station to the right of it (the red standing desk thing with the KVM switch and the CNC machine) also if you have those plastic UPS things we can use those too, even if their batteries are no good. power strips can be left on the main table and we'll put them to work. thank you! -jake

HELP: Mega Truck Needs Jump

Hi My 20’ box truck needs a jump start - anyone out there have a really powerful truck that can help. Located across from Ashby Bart on Ashby. I’ve tried charging using my 6 cylinder truck and left it on for 2 hours but no go. I live on the other side of the block so an extension cord will not work. I need to move it to in front of my house and can charge from there - but first I have to get it started to drive it over. Thanks for your help or advice Alice 415-272-0596

If anyone knows of one laying around not being used I would like to see if this will solve my problem. I need a 100watts so it can produce 5 amps. I am also in the market for a 20 amp controller. I can donate $ to Sudo is there is something to be had - Knowledge of a local sources with competitive prices would also be helpful. Is Urban Ore a reasonable place to look for such an item? JTAG programmer for TMS320F28035PNQ

does anyone have a JTAG programmer that will work to read and write the flash (and other memory) on a TI DSP part number TMS320F28035PNQ it probably has to work with Code Composer (the TI software which is begrudgingly free from their website) so it probably has to be a T.I. (texas instruments) JTAG programmer these parts have been around for a long time so it can be old and still workable. thank you -jake
