Hey everyone,
I've been encouraged, quite emphatically, to enquire as to your collective
favorite doge pic.
I was under the impression that there is only one doge pic that just has
many forms, but I may be challenged to change that impression.
As for the individual who questioned my loyalty when I hesitated to burden
your inbox with doge pics, well, if you see him around Sudo or elsewhere,
perhaps you might feel moved to give him a hug. He needs to be reminded
that we are all with him and with each other, not against him, even if we
might disagree with some of the details of his plans.
And really, can you ever see too many pics of this doge?

Link bait! You just got link baited for the lulz! But hey, now that I have
your attention: I wanted to thank everyone who has helped to pack, move,
and scrub down the fingerprints of 1.6667-years'-worth of projects! If you
haven't had a chance to help yet, there's still a lot that will need to be
done tomorrow and over the weekend--from moving objects, sweeping and
scrubbing, to providing moral support through snacks, music and back rubs.
And if you aren't able to help with the move, that's ok in my mind because
we can't all be available or able. You will continue to support the space
in other ways. :]
So excited for the Omni move!
Love,

Unfortunately these tasty secret things are not vegan. :[ I woulda brought

OPERATION DEPOSIT begins tonight. Or goal is to get 2141 looking brand new.
Then get our deposit back. It'll be so much fun!
Come whenever the hell you can and clean shit up!
Organize and sort the stray junk into trash piles!
Sweep floors!
Scrub surfaces!
Take the remaining couches away, we don't want them! Except the black

Did you all ever talk to these people? They're underneath the old SudoRoom. Stopped by for the first time last week

*Berkeley Spark Info:*
Berkeley Spark is a free community-driven arts and technology festival with
the goal of providing a container where people can create, collaborate and
connect with each other while highlighting and celebrating local
culture and community engagement through art and technology. Our intention
is to be a catalyst for community engagement through dialogue, future
collaborations and access to local artists and technology innovators. This
year’s event will feature a number of interactive art installations, music
and ecstatic dance, Burning Man-esque clothing designers, hand-crafters
jewelers, a film series, a panel discussion on technology, workshops for
children and adults, and local technology companies will be on-site to
present their designs and innovations. We’ve also invited a number of local
Burning Man theme camps to participate as well as mutant vehicle
fabricators and artists from NIMBY to highlight their projects headed out
to Burning Man this year.
To give you some history on the event, last year John Caner, from the
Downtown Berkeley Association, approached myself and a group of local East
Bay leaders to Burning Man back to Berkeley. He was referring to the *How
Berkeley Can You Be* art car parade that had stopped running a few years
ago. Our group joined forces and in less than three months, we created
Berkeley Spark and filled Civic Center Park with art, music, dance and so
much more. We were thrilled at the turnout and the support we received and
when we met up this spring, we decided to do it again though we felt it was
important to create more of a conversation between art and technology, thus
emerged Berkeley Spark 2.0.
"Arc of Reflection" by Oakland artist Amy Stabler at Berkeley Spark 2013
In building upon the East Bay's thriving art and technology climate,
Berkeley Spark 2.0 is also hosting the* East Bay Innovation Tech Corridor*,
creating yet another avenue for community dialogue on the convergence of
art, technology and science here in the East Bay. Local innovators,
designer, makers, hackers, scientist and futurists will be sharing their
ideas and inventions with the Berkeley Community.
As part of the innovation side to the event, The Farm House (a co-living
house in Berkeley, CA) will be hosting a panel discussion on the
ever-evolving technological landscape here in the Bay Area and at the
event, we are also hosting *Berkeley Spark** Playspace* focusing on
experiential workshops for children and adults.
We are grateful for the support of the Downtown Berkeley Association and the
City of Berkeley's Office of Economic Development in association with

I want to open up a conversation on the use of the term "sleepers". I'd
like to propose that we use wording like "Qwerty was found sleeping" (which
describes an act that Qwerty did), rather than calling them a "sleeper"
(which ascribes a quality to Qwerty). I believe that the latter creates an
otherizing effect and is counter to my sense of Sudo Room's dedication to
inclusivity.

Okay, who's going to actually arrange this truck? I can front the
money but would prefer if somebody else made the decisions. Steve?
Hol? Some things to consider:
* will the pews fit?
* will we need somebody with a commercial drivers' license?
* what time shall we meet tomorrow? We have volunteers coming to Sudo
at 10:30, so I think we should start heading to a rental place around
9 or earlier.
Folks, we have ONE DAY in which to move all our big stuff, and it's
tomorrow. So let's get to it! :)

Includes a screening of the 30min film, "The American Dream."
I will steer clear as much as possible of 'conspiracy theories' and work with information that is widely accepted among the research economists.
A list of information resources for deepening your understanding about this topic will be provided.

The True Nature of Money: Solutions to the Economic Crisis
This presentation/discussion will explore the many potential avenues for experiencing abundance in the shadow of the collapse of the U.S. dollar. I will present on the many alternatives to money already being explored/discussed, and propose a new one that has not yet been fully realized.
All attendees will have the opportunity to discuss these various avenues of exchanging goods and services in lieu of the U.S. dollar.

Hello!
We'll be hosting a workshop this Wednesday to discuss the potential of the
new Mutual Aid Network framework we're developing, and how we can apply it
in our own locations and support each other in doing so. I'd love to have a
healthy variety of perspectives and you all have a lot to contribute. I'm
also hoping you can help spread the word to others you think would be
interested. Activists, thinkers, journalists, co-opers, credit union folks,
community development folks, techies, whoever you think should be there.
Please invite anyone you think might be interested.
If you'd like to join online instructions are at bottom. We'll be using
gotomeeting, which you can download for free. Try a little early because
it'll take a few minutes.
I hope you can make it!
thanks
Take care

Builders Workshop #16
*Building a MAN: How Mutual Aid Networks can redesign work and build a
regenerative economy*
*Wednesday June 25, 4-6pm, Madison Central Library 3rd floor Community
Room** 201
W. Mifflin*
Timebanking is great at building our core economy of caregiving,
creativity, civic engagement and community building. Now we're learning
ways to connect it with other tools of mutual aid - cooperative saving and
investment pools, price-based mutual credit, shared resources and
cooperative ownership. We want to connect those kinds of resources in a
comprehensive network that can fund projects and people working to improve
the community.
These budding networks are called Mutual Aid Networks and are the
brainchild of Time For the World <http://timeftw.org/>, a team and project
originating in the Dane County TimeBank <http://danecountytimebank.org/>.
Time For the World Co-Coordinators Stephanie Rearick and Chris Petit are
fresh from a tour of potential MAN pilot sites and new economy conferences
and will present their learning and progress at Builders Workshop #16 -
Building a MAN: How Mutual Aid Networks can redesign work and build a
regenerative economy. We'll discuss how this can be applied to meet various
local goals, and take steps forward in building our own local MAN(s).
If you would like to join remotely please see instructions at bottom of
this message.
*BACKGROUND:*
Builders' Workshops are a learning and leadership building journey hosted
by The Dane County TimeBank, our local mutual credit time exchange
http://danecountytimebank.org and Build For the World, our project to learn
from and share what we're doing with communities working on similar efforts
around the world http://BuildFTW.org.
At eight years old and over 2500 members, the Dane County TimeBank uses
timebanking to facilitate several projects that have positive impacts on
common social ills. From the TimeBank Youth Court's creation of
neighborhood-based safety nets that keep kids out of the juvenile justice
system, to our wellness and disability inclusion projects, to the Allied
Community Coop where we're working with other neighborhood organizations to
create a new model for community health on Allied Drive, we're showing how
timebanking can be an integral part of creating a better world. And we're
sharing our learning in a global network of mutual support.

I really appreciate this. I hadn't considered it, but it's a lot like
the distinction between "homeless person" and "person without a home"
or "person experiencing homelessness". More than analogous, in fact.
Thanks very much for bringing this up, Vicky.

Unfortunately, I do not think there's any chance of getting access to
our new space before Tuesday, July 1st. So I think trucking it on
Wednesday is still our best plan, and this weekend should still be
reserved for cleaning the old space, so maybe we can get our deposit
back.

Err, never mind. Now he says he'd rather do a single day of moving
than spread across multiple days. So we're allowed Wednesday, with as
many trips as we need. Less disruptive for them, and less of a
logistical rush for us anyway, so it is what it is.
So the moving truck will happen Wednesday morning as planned.
We had planned a major truckloading starting 10:30am on Wednesday. But
some folks were also talking about doing an advance truckload tomorrow
(Tuesday) to help lighten the load.
We don't have keys yet, and we won't have keys until July 1, so we
still have to coordinate with our landlord-friends when we move things
in. I talked to J, the owner, and he said that space isn't an issue -
there is plenty of storage space ready for us in the basement and the
ballroom mezzanine, for example. But scheduling time is the tricky
part.
He's open to receiving a truckload of things tomorrow. He said that
around noon would be the best time for us to do it, but to call ahead
first.
He understands that we want to move things Wednesday too, and will
cooperate as best he can, but requested that we try to condense things
into as few trips as possible because they are so busy with many other
things and are pressed for time.
So there it is. Folks who were talking about a truck - what are the
actual logistics for getting a truck tomorrow? Who's willing to show
up tomorrow morning and move boxes?
Congratulations everyone on the new lease!
I went to this URL:
https://sudoroom.org/sudo-upgrade/
and i noticed that the text is rendered in low-contrast, meaning that the
text itself is grey on a white background. This is annoying to read, and
downright frustrating to impossible for people with low-vision, like a
dear friend of mine.
Please, if you have editing powers on this wiki (or any webpage) don't let
Apple win by making low-contrast the norm: make your text black on white
or something equally readable. The whole point is for it to be read.
Thank you very much for taking this seriously.

Is there a schedule for when people will get together with packing
and/or moving tasks this week? I work over at Merritt College all the
way up until 7 PM, but if people are working on this in the evening, I'd
be glad to come over and help out.

Sudo Members,
My name's Segue and I live nearby. I've visited Sudo room at least 1/2 doz times but I'm not an official member.
I would like to do 1 or more presentations in the coming week and a half at SudoRoom if this is okay with you. The name of the presentation would be (roughly) "The True Nature of Money and the Imminent Global Economic Shift" or something to that effect. There are laws going into effect on July 1st that may have strong repercussions on our already fading position as the global reserve currency. So, yeah, would like to use the 'crisis' to motivate people to get curious about all this stuff, as it has far more of an impact on our daily lives than most people realize.
Would this be something that you guys would be into having at Sudo Room? If so, would Tues and Thurs Eve and Sunday afternoon work? The event would be booked out as 2hrs. Exact start time TBD but the usual is like 7-9 for eves and maybe 5-7 for sunday? Or, if Thursday night is too crazy (the calendar looks full), I could do Friday night, say... 6:30p to 8:30pm. This is for June, this coming week!
This presentation is focused on the Problem, but I would also like to do a Solution discussion on Sunday only, and in this case, the Problem presentation should start at 4pm and then the Solution Discussion would start at 6:30pm. That Presentation/Discussion could be called: "What to Do? Solutions to the Economic Crisis"
I will be sharing images/video from MacBook, so if you guys have a projector and a screen of some sort, this would be super useful.
Let me know if this is of interest to you. If so, you have permission to put me on your calendar for any of these 4 dates and to broadcast it widely. Then, of course, also please notify me ASAP and I'll be there and ready to roll! This is only the second time for me doing this (once at BurningMan in 2012) so I'm okay if there are not a ton of people at the first one!
If there's some interest at these presentations, I might do more presentations/discussions in July, but this is TBD!

Hello!
You may or may not have heard that Noisebridge is closing for the month of July for fixing up our infrastructure.
And we can use your help!
Because we need to do work on the electrical wiring, we're taking the opportunity to do a complete overhaul of the space.
* Getting rid of unused stuff
* sanding the hardwood floors
* fixing up the plumbing
* fixing up our access control
* organizing all the areas
* spiffing up the kitchen
* decorating
* making food
* music
* playing together
* sharing your skills
* learning a lot
* with plenty of opportunities for bonding experiences along the way.
Wanna help? If you have an hour, or an hour here and there, or lots of hours during the month of July -- please contact
Naomi: pnaomi(a)gmail.com
who's one of the people coordinating this big project.
If you've never been to Noisebridge before, this would be a great way to get involved.
If you've been involved with Noisebridge, this would be a great way to get more involved (or involved again).
Get a piece of the refurbishing action!
Anything you can do to help will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mitch.

Someone already asked about using it as 3D printing material on the open
manufacturing list and 4ndy said:
"If you somehow had an extruder that could use a strip of plastic that
buckles under the slightest push... but even then PET is rubbish for
FDM/FFF printing due to its high shrinkage compared to PLA. Short answer:
no."
That's a good point. I wonder if it would be possible to create a print
extruder that works for this. It may be that the shrinkage happens before
extrusion, such that little or no shrinkage will occur in the print.

Hi,
Does anyone out there have a uSATA hard drive they don't need? I got a
Thinkpad X301 and it only can use a uSATA disk, no place for anything else.
It's also known as a "microSATA"
thank you

you can read all about the recent repair of the TAZ 3d printer on the Sudo
Prints list, found here:
http://lists.sudoroom.org/listinfo/sudo-prints
in future i hope to add circuitboard printing to this list, which is for
all types of 2D and 3D printing done at sudoroom, and the equipment that
makes it possible.

Hey all,
We've made a lot of progress, but still quite a bit of packing to do,

I wonder if the Center has tried to contact OTX West? Their mission is
to supply the youth of Oakland with computers.
http://www.otxwest.org/
I've gone to them when trying to collect peripherals and computer cords
to send to Cuba, Bolivia & Haiti, they are nice folks. I haven't paid
them a visit since XP became unsupported, I wonder what OS they are
blowing on the machines these days.
As noted, the ACCRC is also a resource. They give away a lot of
machines, even if James Burgett can be a prickly codger. (Infomed-USA
used to also get hardware from him before we somehow pissed him off).
If we want to send machines to the Youth Center I think we should check
the machines out first (run smartmontools and memtest for HD & memory)
and blow Linux onto them (those old machines probably won't handle Win7
(even if we had licenses) and anyway we should be encouraging use of
open sores). I can help with the hardware analysis and have figured out
a good way to blow a standard customized Linux image onto old boxen.

On the issue of giving computers to deserving folks, the Pastors For
Peace are sending down their 25th convoy of material support to Cuba,
they are coming through in mid-July. This year they are trying to get
building materials and bike in particular. I'm planning on sending a
dozen or so computers. Contact me if you are interested in donating.

Once things have settled down a bit at the new location I'm going to
propose having a regular Linux InstallFest at the sudoroom, maybe
Fridays (so I can duck out and pick up my pizzas and bring some back to
the room) or perhaps after the Cryptoparties. I've got a collection of
installation ISOs on DVD/CDs and USB sticks
(http://www.pendrivelinux.com/multiboot-create-a-multiboot-usb-from-linux/
Multisystem is a good way to get multiple ISOs on to a single USB
stick). I can also set up a proxy to locally mirror deb archives for
faster downloads and updating. I use approx these days, but am also
familiar with apt-cacher. squid-deb-proxy sounds intriguing, as well,
and I wouldn't mind trying to set that up.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/3503/best-way-to-cache-apt-downloads-on-a-lan
I think it would be good to have a standard time when folks could come
to the room to get help with their open source issues from those of us
who have been riding the GNU for a while now.
Alright, time to get off of my vertical smile and see how many
receptacles I can find for the great enboxening.

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Hi Neon Leon, We have a stack of
computers at the space that we'd love to put in the hands of Oakland
kids - I am not sure what state they are in, but they are there and no
one has stated any interest in setting them up at the space. We also
have lots of peripherals that could be of use in a computer lab. Is
there someone with the school who can come and help sort through them
and find/put together working ones this weekend? We will be moving soon
so getting those computers over to the youth center in the next week
would be great. Cheers, Hol on Jun 20, 2014, Steve Berl

I propose a 10:30 a.m. start for the move Wednesday unless there will be
way more folks able and intending to come late afternoon, in which case
3 p.m.
Is there anyone moving wednesday who can't do 10:30?

Sorry for duplicate email. cell phone fail. I say we give our community a
few more hours to deliver free, liberated or DIY boxes. Then if we aren't
satisfied by around 6pm i will personally drive to home despot and front
the cost.
Since Landlord is throwing a "rave" tonight, packing in earnest starts
tomorrow, and we need boxes, etc.
First, please help pack tomorrow or sunday. Being packed is vital for an
easy, smooth move.
Second, we need packing supplies. Were I Czar, (besides wanting to hang
myself for parasiting on the people) I'd get the following ~$100 of
supplies from Home Depot today or tonight:
100 small (16x12x12) boxes
10 medium(17x18x16) boxes
2 6-packs of packing tape
black magic markers
I'm assuming sudo has a few box knives or scissors, and that we can get
newspaper for fill easily enough..
Also, i have pallet wrap, if needed, on a reimbursement basis.
Also, for those who would rather reuse, etc.: BRING US YOUR BOXES,
please! (Excuse the hollering.)
Third, we should buy boxes because:
Unused extra Home Depot boxes can be returned. Maybe folks will bring
many good boxes, but back-up is nice, and we could promise not to be
wasteful.
That said, I'm not Czar. How does one get that purchase okayed? How does
one get reimbursed cash (as I'm rather illiquid at the moment)?

It seems that DNS inside the sudo network is not working. However manually
setting your DNS to something like 8.8.8.8 fixes this issue.
I'm not sure where this problem is stemming from, hopefully somebody else
can troublshoot better than I.
