It's amazing! It's beautiful!
I want to be a member and pay money but I don't want to come to a lot of
meetings, is that ok?
Would anybody be interested, do you think, in co-op mat pilates classes in
the mornings? I really love pilates, but it's really expensive. You don't
need machines at all to do it, all you need is a big carpeted floor. I
think if a person has taken like 3 classes he or she is qualified to lead a
class. I'd like to take turns leading.
A potential downside I envision has to do with insurance. Do you think your
insurance would prohibit sports, even really low key sports like mat
exercises?
i'm not going to maker faire this year (too bad)
i'm starting a thread for people who like to make things.
i'd like for this to result in something creative.
there were some nice projects last weekend.
i made a lot of progress this week learning stuff.
==
i'm not so interested in being sent lots of links to instructables /
youtube videos of burrito delivery drones / stuff that doesn't result in
people doing creative things in the space / rambling political rants but
you know, it's a "free country" and we are all anarchists so you can write
what you want.

I have a car and can drive if need be - where & when did you have in mind?
Does sudo room have a raspberry pi wiki or any getting started pages? There aren't any just laying around besides the door?

hi everyone,
city slicker farms has an awesome program where they have volunteers turn
people's backyards into gardens in 4 hours.
although the resulting gardens appear to be closed source (with sharing of
produce encouraged), it would be nice to learn the model of rapid garden
set up so that we can set up our own network of volunteer built and
community shared backyard gardens.
so far julio, (possibly) diana, and i have signed up for the may 25th
event, so if you'd like to go as a group there are a couple spots left.

dear friends,
tonight we had many fruitful dicsussions at sudo.
it led to the connection of some obvious dots:
the prohibition of practices that threaten biodiversity and our well
being on this planet and
the legalization of a new economy for a sustainable society in balance
with the planet.
the society we are seeing out there is the dying caterpiller, lets not
be afraid,
after the transition we will all be happier, live a more sustainable
lifestyle in community instead of in solitude, instead of toxic foods
and scarcity we will have non toxic foods in abundance. We will become
a butterfly. We will wake up to see that all this we went through was
a horrible dream. We will live on a compassionate planet. we will
dicsover who we really are. we are not slaves or slave masters. we are
not robots, we are not animals. we are cosmic spirits, travelling
through space and time since millenia of years. we are the planet. we
are sick, but we are healing. we can find peace of mind, and we can
create peace on earth.
world peace is near if we open up to it. it starts within every one of us.
it starts in the supermarket, it starts on our plates. it starts by
smiling to a stranger on the street and saying hi instead of just
playing the same old game of separation.
we vote with our dollar every day. we are the consumers that the
corporations ship materials to from all over the world.
Here were some ideas as action items:
- promote May 25th as Global and Local World Peace March (Stop
Monsanto and legalize Hemp) (in the evening we will screen the film
who bombed judy barry, goes along well)
- connect the city hackers (us) with the countryside food hackers
(organic farmers) (as an alternative to corporate food)
- establiosh symbiosis to food hackers, invite them to talk, get food
donated, maybe have small farmers market, maybe they need our skills.
-organize community potlucks on a regular basis, find allies, loal
organizations, gather the tribes, grow a movement of sharing hacker
grown, non corporate and non toxic food.
I conneted two pitures to one collage. Please share if it resonates with you.
I posted it on a couple of FB pages and then got notified that I cant
post it anymore on pages.
Please share your Ideas, thoughts, feedback.
Any Ideas which organizations to contact?
Any Ideas on how to pull this off?
Praying for peace, love and abundance to come,
as this is exactly what mother earth provides us with.
lets stop artificial scarcity. Lets stop the killing and distruction.
Lets have a peaceful revolution, share food, music, art, culture, creativity,
come together and heal as a society , on a personal level, and as the planet.

When are we gonna wake up to dead caterpillar matrix to see that :
Drs are here to make us sick
Banks are here to make us poor
Governments are here to enslave us
Schools are here to keep us ignorant
Food makers are here to keep us starved
Politicians are here to keep us disempowered
Media is here to keep us misinformed
Religions are here to keep us fearful and disconnected from source
Scientists are here to keep the status quo going and not give us best products
brothers, sisters, the matrix is dead.
So please
stop believing
your dr has your best interest in mind,
instead understand the power of your own body, magic of your own healing
Stop believing
your banks and rich people are here to let us have our fair share
instead start building your own world, your own abundance your own economy
stop believing
government is here to help you prosper, and be free
instead inform yourself about your own sovereignty and ways you can
change the world
stop believing
in formal education is gonna make you smarter, or give you better opportunities
instead figure out ways to become a hacker figuring out and learning
from life experiences
stop believing
food companies want to give you the best food
instead start making your own food, growing your own crop, your own crops.
stop believing
politicians are there to represent you to make sure your have your rights
instead learn to organize, create grass root movement which doesnt
wait for others
stop believing
what you see in media as being true, accurate, well-intentioned
instead start using media using critical thinking, not believing
everything they tell you, better yet do your research
stop believing
religions get you closer to God, and that they are your way to be calm
and at peace
instead start connecting to Source energy thru your own heart, thru
your own intuition in connection to the ever present magic
stop believing
scientists are trying to make our world the best they can, and give us the best
instead start creating the world you want, make it, and take every
piece of so called scientific evidence with a grain of salt,
Start learning about the work of scientists like Nassim Haramein,
Bruce Lipton, David Gruder. Mario Martinez.

Hello Friendly Sudo Room,
I won't be coming to tonight's meeting (Life: the Great Distractor), but I
am still interested in making food.
Since we have lot's of pasta in the Sudo Kitchen (I can see it from the
live camera feed, that is trained on the pantry), I'm going to suggest a
pasta salad.
If others can provide fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, and perhaps fresh
mozzarella then we would have a feast indeed.
I have garlic and an onion (or at least a part of an onion), and I can
season olive oil with it. Add salt and pepper and you have a less than $20
dinner for hungry Sudoers.
We can get fancy and put in capers or yellow squash or any numbers of other
things, but the essentials of garlic, olive oil, salt, tomatoes, and basil
is timeless.
Anyone's tastebuds tickled sufficiently to shop and cook with me. car nice
to have but unessential.
cheers,
ray
This just came across the wire. A fem/queer/trans positive hackerspace
just opened in Seattle called the Seattle Attic! Check it out:

Perhaps we should open up some lines of west-coast communication and
dialogue and invite them to visit our space. Sounds like an awesome
place and somewhere I'd like to check out some day.

As the world's largest contract manufacturer,
Foxconn employs more than one million people in China
alone. Foxconn workers are the iSlaves who face
horrendous conditions while producing communication tools
like iPhones and iPads for Apple. In 2012, a series of
worker suicides shook the Chinese Foxconn factories and
drew world-wide attention. Management promised to improve
conditions and increase wages, but the situation has not
changed much since: Foxconn accelerated the relocation of
factories to the Chinese hinterland, employs student
interns as "cheap" labor, covers up work accidents, and
still relies on its militaristic management regime.
However, Foxconn workers are far from being passive
victims. They have used everyday forms of resistance
against the rhythm of the assembly line and have been
able to stage strikes in various Foxconn factories around
China.
In this talk, a member of the gongchao.org
<http://www.gongchao.org/> collective will share
their research and activity around the struggles of
Chinese migrant workers and will use words, photos, and
films to present the situation at Foxconn. The
discussion will focus on ways to support the iSlaves of
Foxconn and relate their struggles to our own.

Ran into a new guy here doing 3D printing!
Making Tuesdays a 3D printing night, the same as the micro controllers night.
I'm printing arduino cases on the 3D printer so these dovetail nicely!

Are you going to Maker Faire on Saturday?
I need someone to transport sudomate to the noisebridge booth at maker
faire, as they have ordered and are paying for 20L of it. I unfortunately
wont be going myself.

So right about now, Sudo Room court is in full effect* ...
For those who weren't paying close attention to the news about the Oakland Police Department this past week, let me try to condense and read in between the lines. In case there was any doubt as to the unprecedented mess they/we are in: Two police chiefs resigned; Oakland made first in the country for robberies; news came out that only one person is in charge of coordinating burglary response; and the long-awaited police reform report was pulled from publication. (Raw footage of Fri. press conference - http://news.yahoo.com/video/raw-video-oakland-officials-address-221600024.h…)
Our police chief friend Howard "It's Unconscionable" Jordan of LockPickGate (http://oaklandwiki.org/Lockpickgate) announced his retirement suddenly on Wednesday, the same day that the Wasserman-Bratton Report was supposed to come out. Since he's three years short of being eligible for the top pension (75% of salary) for life, he claimed undisclosed medical reasons and getting to spend time with his family (where he lives somewhere other than Oakland). Anthony Toribio was named interim chief on Wednesday, and announced his resignation on Friday. Sean Whent is our new interim police chief as of Friday (https://local.nixle.com/alert/4999940/?sub_id=894092).
Thomas Frazier, who was appointed the Compliance Director by the federal court who fell short of a federal takeover of the OPD, had just announced the re-opening of investigations into police misconduct, including ones related to Occupy Oakland, the week before. Part of the deal the federal judge struck was that the Compliance Director has important authority over the OPD, including the ability to recommend the firing of police chiefs. (http://www.eastbayexpress.com/oakland/frazier-to-reexamine-police-misconduc…). Frazier was the one who delivered the scathing report about the OPD response to Occupy about a year and a half ago (http://www2.oaklandnet.com/oakca1/groups/cityadministrator/documents/webcon…).
The press conference for the release of the Bratton Report, which was supposed to come out on Wed., was cancelled and turned into a press conference for Jordan's early retirement. While the full report didn't come out, the six-page summary was posted by local CBS News (http://cbssanfran.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/bratton_group_report_051813.p…). When Oakland hired the Bratton Group to do the report, there was significant protest among Oakland communities because of Bratton's support for "stop and frisk" policing (euphemism for racial profiling) and "zero tolerance" policies. He's generally known as the top cop that brought LA & NY crime rates down significantly during his tenure there. Robert Wasserman ran the community meetings because of the community backlash against Bratton (http://oaklandlocal.com/article/wasserman-lays-out-general-plan-crime-preve…).
So is there anything that Sudo Room can do? Anything other than what other groups are already doing in trying to bring accountability to the OPD? A couple things in the Bratton Report (reprinted at OccupyOakland.org at http://occupyoakland.org/2013/05/bratton-group-report-may-8-2013/) come to mind. I think folks on this could have a lot of productive things to say about the Compstat Process, a computerized crime tracking system, which Bratton points to as key to improving crime response. The effectiveness of Compstat and how it can be optimally used and the drawbacks in how it is being suggested to be used has not really been discussed anywhere, as far as I can tell.
There is also reference to significantly increasing camera surveillance all over Oakland - getting more info about that will be very useful. Makes me think that now would be the ideal time to finally get our surveillance tours going - identifying surveillance cameras around downtown and taking people on tours pointing them out as they walk around. Before posting such a list on Oakland Wiki or something, we would want to narrow down those listed to ones that are aimed at public areas (or private ones that also capture public space).

Hi All,
I recently came across a definition of Hackers and Makers and wanted to
share the concept with the Sudo Community.
Hacking can be defined as: Finding ways be make something perform a
function it was not indented to.
While Making can be defined as: Building new things.
The basic idea being that Hackers take existing things and get them to do
the unexpected, while Makers build new things. Makers can hack and Hackers
can make.
I like these definitions. Thoughts?

This was a great weekend
I'm happy we can put this stuff up on a mailing list and our wiki and not someone's social networking 2.0 site crammed with ads. ;)
I hear Rusty's complaint of cleanliness. and I want to speak in defense of
Oakland Nights Live. I didn't see you at Oakland Nights Live, so I imagine
you showed up after the event was over?
I saw them vacuum and pick up and vacuum the common area too a high level
of cleanliness. Maybe the front ground floor entry way was more dirty.
Rusty perhaps you could be more specific about what was wrong, because I
have a different understanding of their cleaning practices. Maybe it got
dirty inbetween when you saw it and when they cleaned it. If so then I feel
you are speculating on where the dirtiness came from.
Jenny, . I also didn't see you at ONL, and during the hour following. I
read that you sent an email to Oakland Nights Live with the phrasing "we
can no longer..." at some point. I feel upset that you did so because I
want messages claiming to be from sudo as "we" to be approved by all
sudoers before they're sent. I would like to request that you don't send
messages on behalf of sudo without consensus in the future.
Thanks,
Max
Hey Everyone,
Andrew and I saw late last night that the space was really messy and there
were piles of stuff everywhere. I was wayyy to tired to do anything about
it, but it was really bad, especially with all the left out bottles, food
on the floor, and etc. Romy and Jordan already started cleaning up earlier
today, but they shouldn't be doing that. It also wreaked of cigarette
smoke in the front hallway to the building.
Can someone forward this email, so that the host of this event knows that
this is an ongoing issue, and that we have gotten several complaints from
the landlord, George?
-Rusty
hello everyone--
last week bill, matt senate, yardena, rusty and i (and i think a few other
people) participated in the cleaning of natural decay.
*
*
*we are doing it again tomorrow. cleaning of natural decay!*

*sunday. sudoroom - 7 to 9pm!!!*

*
*do come! it's rad!!!*

==
*- because I did the cleaning of natural decay, I was able to tell vicky
today that we have two gigantic bins of scrap and cloth materials in the
back closet. she got to use this material that we didn't even realize we
had...*
I was able to reveal this to her last minute, and she was able to use the
materials to make cloth menstrual pads. she wasn't aware of this stuff!
==
i found out that we have a cool light projector that's broken in one of the
black cloth messenger bag cases in the back that needs fixing. there's a
wire loose. it's something you can use to project large art pieces on thew
all. it's so cool.
we danced to erasure.
R labelled the recycle bin with a cool "ninjas will screw us or save us"
poster... nobody knew for the longest time whether we had a recycle trash
can or not.
i got to help george our landlord empty our garbage. our garbage has been
piling up.
==
i found out we have a cool cuisinart hand mixer whose motor is broken but
we have to fix.
=
even though i don't biohack i saw that someone is working on a cool hack to
make a low cost biohacking freezer
=
we moved the satellite dishes in the back so that they don't take up space
in an inconvenient way.
=
i got to learn where some extra sewing supplies were along witht he scraps
=

I started the day out a little grumpy, hungover and not having gotten a lot
of sleep the night before. There were rough edges.

here is max's drawing from our today i learned comics art and more 3d
printing jam
we are still trying to figure out the right fill type (not honeycomb) in
this case... if we had made this thinner the drawing would be more
apparent...
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/page/ComicsAndMore
- I feel good because last night & today even more 3D Printing experts
apprenticed me
- I feel like there were all these people who are excellent cartoonists and
artists who came out of the woodwork. there were also lots of new people
willing to learn. this collaboration i'd been craving for a while came to
happen.
- new people came to the space and someone's friend even stayed behind and
started writing technical documentation in our wiki for 3D Printing (new
stranger but potential new member!)
- oakland nights was packed, a few people came in but it was mostly a calm
working night
- people were putting up a lot of the drawings, we hope to decorate more in
teh space
- S brought a hella ton of art supplies without me even asking for today i
learned. thanks dude!
- someone's mom walked in off the street and talked about hanging out with
her daughter at art events in oakland. it's always good when that happens.
all of our problems are really not that bad and not much more dramatic than
a lot of stuff you experience living with roommates. it is really nice when
we create together.
i just spoke with Jenny about making a cartoon to summarize the mesh
network and get more people into it.
let's get a thread started about the mesh network again!
I was feeling intimidated by the mesh network because i didn't feel i had
the technicalcapabilities to help people out with it!

hi -> sudoroomers, what's the convention for posting jobs on sudoroom? is
this appropriate to put this here? I saw jenny posting a cool job a whiel
ago...
An acquaintance of mine is leaving her job and looking for someone to
replace her at a cool music company called retronyms
they make iphone and ipad apps like tabletop ... it's a small shop, and
it's been around for a while. it's not such a start-up type of place. their
passion is music.
they're looking for an office administrative person,
Accounting is a plus. Interest in the music industry another plus.
If you do, have them email
lisa
(aaattttt)
retronyms
dot com
I signed up for digest mode but it is rapidly becoming unusable due to
excessive quoting of previous emails. Please only quote what is necessary
for context.
Some of the digests I've received contain 2-5 emails which all contain
quote trees with 10 or more previous emails quoted. This makes it difficult
to find the actual new content especially on mobile devices.
Cheers,
Shawn
"killing it" is a recently popular term to denote excellence and immense
progress. it has a violent, forceful connotation.
friends in the circus community - through empirical evidence - have
established a belief that operating at the highest levels of talent
requires mindfulness, awareness, and calm. thus, a better term, which they
have started to playfully use, is "cuddling it."
thought sudoers would appreciate this.
cuddling it,

Hi y'all,
Even if a long movie on Art Murmur is not the most social event, it
was a very good movie and I am glad we watched it. (Money and Life)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0xRkaJCs5g
Interestingly our neighbor (the door next to the kitchen) seemed to
completely disagree with the core message and it seemd to be defending
our current system.
The piano on the street was a wonderful thing, thanks Sam &co.
With the Art Murmur we have a big potential to grow something awesome.
I hope our community will grow, continue to open up, embrace
diversity, and will have many awesome projects, discussions and
exchange to come.
We live in very interesting times and this opening up might be the key
to something really special that can happen in Oakland.
I hope as a community we will stay away from accusation, blame and
criticism and focus on what unites us. coming together and creating a
better future.
One thing that we could easily pull of is making the Art Murmur event
@ Sudo to networking and community event for hackers, creatives,
change agents, activists, green movements...
we can invite all the hackerspaces around and all the non profits we
are connected with and reach out to more local groups. (Monthly BACH
Networking ?)
Similar the Second Saturdays we have the Solano Art Walk in Berkeley.
With inspiration and help of our Community we declared the Open Fine
Art Gallery a Hackerspace. It is located in the storage room of the
vacant Oaks Theatre.
it has a secret entrance to inside the theatre. we could make a movie in there.
(what about a movie about reclaiming the theatre, maybe it will be a
self-fulfilling prophecy)
if we create a well networked community and reach out to the first and
generation hackers who made it to money I believe we could reclaim the
whole theater and BACH Hacker University/Hotel/Conference
Center/Theater/Space/School
Saturday June 8th will be the first official "Solano Art Walk", and it
would be wonderful to show
the local community here what and how awesome hackerspaces are.
Maybe with a huge map of the bay area with all the hackerspaces,
electronic kits, LED strips...
any art projects that sudoers and other hackers might wanna show.
This Saturday May 11th we have an art opening as well, 7-9pm is a good
time to come by
and check out the space and share visions for the future.
Maybe someone wants to come out and wants to declare the space 'Sudo-gallery"
the space is payed for until july, all events are free and donation based,
the rules are "be excellent to each other and say hi"
the conflict resolution is we focus on love peace and unity (we do not
support hate, separation or fear).
-------
What do you guys think of having a Art Murmur planning meeting 10 days
- 2 weeks before the next murmur?
anyone interested in hacking the gallery or hacking the theatre in
north berkeley?
best,
patrick

If anyone didn't see, Sunday the 19th @4p it is!
I have a lot of writing ideas, such as chronicling Internet archaeology..or
anthropology. I've been doing a lot of the latter, and I'll tell you how
during the 19th's meetup. I'd also be interested in generating random
haikus. Who knows of a good haiku library? (Heard of the Haiku

Hi everyone,
This Saturday (5/11) at 2PM, come learn about Comics, Arduinos, 3D Printing
& More <https://sudoroom.org/wiki/page/ComicsAndMore> with Romy!
In a *NUTSHELL,* this is an old-fashioned comic book jam. We will take the
end result and print it out as a relief using the 3D Printer.
Here's the *PLAN*:
- Roll out a big roll of paper
- People draw their characters interacting (1 or more characters per
artist)
- We scan the drawing
- We fuse the scan onto a 3D Model using the customizable Lithopane
onThingiverse - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:74322
- Print out the lithopane on the 3D Printer
- Warning - this might take a while (at least 20-30 minutes?)
Come, draw, and invite your friends!
Best,
Marina
Hey All,
I want to invite you to our exquisite Sudo Hacky Happer hour tomorrow!
If you have super awesome video equipment or want to help set things up, be
sure to show up on the early side (6PMish..potluck food?) I am not
personally knowledgeable about the wiki, blog, or video stuff, so I'd
really appreciate your help!
For everyone else, festivities will start around 7PM, although we will
likely be sharing the common room at first. We'll be having group and
individual video entries, and I hope to get some nice screencapture
tutorials going, so bring your gear! And your booze! We will be
respectful of members who wish to not be filmed, but I hope we can all help
show off how ridiculously awesome our Sudo culture, have some tenlightening
and productive discussions, and witness various Sudo members degenerate
into friendly and respectful debauchery.
Yours in crime,
Sudo Sam
random idea: wouldn't it be neat if we could reclaim computer hardware from
local businesses (which typically come without hard drives) find a cheap
way to package a small linux distro onto a cheap drive (maybe even:
http://www.amazon.com/Micro-SATA-Cables-Adapter-Converter/dp/B0078PVL8U).
then resell them as "sudobooks" for some ridiculously low price (25 bucks?)
to raise dollars for sudo?
This is your kind reminder that Bike Smut at Sudo Room is in 8 days!
The show should be amazing, assuming we all pull together. I sent out some
announcements but I will need your help reaching out to your friends. This
could be a really successful fundraiser for Sudo Room if we all take some
time to spread our radical network. This is the last time the Turning
Trixxx program and performances will be shared and it's not available
online!*

first to see it!

In a previous thread I asked: "Are we alone in the universe?" Not according
to all the wonderful responses we got! Come join your fellow wordy
humanoids on a fine *Sunday the 19th* afternoon at *4pm* and enjoy
gastrological delicacies from your and other star systems (Nothing too
fancy. OR don't bring anything at all if you prefer.). We will be making
good use of our internal universes in pondering the following action and
discussion items brought forth via the email thread (and any other
interesting thought that has since rocked your world):
– Poetry slams and talent showcases
– A writers’ collective website: LinguisticAlchemystic
– Sudo Radio broadcasts
– Sci-fi writers meetup
– Sudo Press: A self-publishing platform with graphic and editorial
support focusing on Hacktivism
– Book-binding/sewing, book-selling
– Algorithmic poetry meetup/workshop
– Twitter haikus
– User generated algorithm seeds *tear*
– Writers/Comic book artists collab
– Drop-in writing help workshop
– Screenwriters’/actors’ meetup
There is a yin and a yang to everything.
Here are a few examples of the "dark side" of reshaping language...
I've read a lot of history about the Chinese Cultural Revolution and the
Cambodian Khmer Rouge... these groups were very interested in reforming a
corrupt society, finding new ways of doing things. They are not shining
examples but I can say that their intentions started out pure.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_Rouge_rule_of_Cambodia#Establishing_the_…
On the surface, society in Democratic Kampuchea was strictly
egalitarian<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egalitarian>.
The Khmer language <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_language>, like many
in Southeast Asia, has a complex system of usages to define speakers' rank
and social status. These usages were abandoned. People were encouraged to
call each other "friend", or "comrade" (in Khmer, មិត្ដ mitt), and to avoid
traditional signs of deference such as bowing or folding the hands in
salutation.
Language was transformed in other ways. The Khmer Rouge invented new terms.
People were told they must "forge" (*lot dam*) a new revolutionary
character, that they were the "instruments" (*opokar*) of the Angkar, and
that nostalgia for pre-revolutionary times (*chheu satek arom*, or "memory
sickness") could result in their receiving Angkar's "invitation" to be
deindustrialised and to live in a concentration camp.
Thank you Marina for your proactivation, but the 19th will actually be the
day! In the previous email Rabbit said that date would work from him. I was
waiting for other people to reply, but since they haven't and it doesn't
conflict with anything else I have gone ahead and scheduled a writers'
meetup for the 19th at 4p!
Sunday the 19th works for me!
I can show people how to make Twitter bots that generate random poetry like
the famous horse_ebooks. https://twitter.com/horse_ebooks
And I'll read selections from my own army of Twitter poetry-bots.
P.S. Romy, these can make excellent comic ideas :)
