serious question, can we share the routing number and account number of the
omni or sudoroom bank account publicly, to enable people to transfer money into
the account? Or is this a security risk? I don't know much about banking and
security (except that it's heavily encrusted with tradition dating back to the
pre-computer days) so I figured i'd just put the question out there.
We have people wanting to donate money to sudoroom (yes i have heard about
bitcoin thank you) but they're turned off by the tradition of giving 3% over to
a credit card processor or other MITM which is understandable.
But since we're in quarantimes, it's another reason to gather ways of gathering
money without making people leave their couch.
for reference:
https://consumerboomer.com/what-can-someone-do-with-your-bank-account-and-r…
god this is so stupid, apparently it is possible to rob someone's account from
those numbers, but it's also impossible to hide those numbers as they're
printed on every check you send out. Wow great system.

Dear sudoers,
As of tomorrow, sudo room will officially be 3 months overdue for Omni rent
($6K), with an additional $2K due September 25th for October rent.
I am transferring about $1K from our Paypal now, which will increase our
total money-in-the-bank to approximately $2900, enough to pay off one
month's back rent.
I want to give a shoutout to all who've stepped up to donate more and/or
sell some of our assets via eBay in recent months - Thank you for your
support! And please send an update on that progress!
I'm attaching a PDF of sudo room's history of pledges owed and payments
made in 2020, as well as 2018, 2019, and 2020's YTD Profit & Loss reports.
The following proposal up for consensus, which would put us meagerly back
in the black:
*Proposal to Omni Commons for sudo room consensus: *
Sudo Room is requesting a retroactive 50% reduction in rent for the months
of April-October (Pledge #s 2052, 2062, 2071, 2086, 2185, and 2195). This
is a six-month reduction in rent. Attached are sudo room's financial
reports from 2018 - 2020-to-date, reflecting ongoing inability to match
income to expenses (our only expenses being Omni rent and our web hosting
services). Sudo Room's donation from Sudo Mesh in 2018 of $10K was
predicted to create the necessary buffer for lack of sufficient income
through until mid-2020, and this prediction has unfortunately been correct.
We will be working actively to increase our income and report-back to the
Delegate's and Finance WG in October 2020.

Hey friends!
Looking to help out a teacher who needs a PC laptop for remote teaching /
video streaming. She’s willing to pay for something used. Wondering if Sudo
has any laying around?
Thanks in advance!
Niki
Hey Sudo,
There is a person who was wanting to see if someone could help with their
laptop which got hacked and a SD card if I understood them correctly.
I gave them Sudo info email and discuss list email.
Christie or Kirstie ? Not a member but planned to apply when COVID hit. No
one was in Sudo Room. Ghost Town Hackerspace.
Also, what are next steps as I want to join Sudo but not sure what is even
going on at this time with Sudo?
Probably need to have info for folks who visit who are not members but want
tech help.
I am only in Omni to clean up the space, kick ass, and chew bubble gum (and
I'm all out of bubble gum.)
Dane
Hi all.
I will be running an air compressor for 12 hours straight in the sudo/CCL
area of Omni this coming Tuesday from around noon until midnight.
I am not sure exactly how loud it will be but the compressor is inside a
somewhat sound-dampened box so hopefully it won't be too bad. I don't see
anyone on the CCL pandemic access calendar scheduled for that period.
This is a so-called regeneration cycle for a CO2/humidity scrubber which is
needed to get it ready for use after it's been sitting unused for quite a
while.
Let me know if anyone has a conflict and needs me to reschedule.

I've got an old Leader LBO-325 scope, 60mhz, dual channel, nice and portable in a field case, with a 1x/10x probe.
I think it is from the 1990s. There are manuals online.
It works, though the focus doesn't, the trace is fuzzy. Probably needs a pot cleaned or maybe replaced.
Don't need it anymore, so if sudoroom or anyone wants it, let me know, it's yours.
Hello,
I'm a one-man shop in the peninsula and I desperately need to use a
laser cutter for my work for a couple of hours. Like everybody, I'm in a
very tough spot.
I have been trained and I have used the Noisebridge laser cutter a few
times but it's offline for three months now (security + covid + move).
HackerDojo is offline too. I have been using laser cutters for 15 years
(early days of Techshop).
Is it possible to access and use the Sudo Room laser cutter - one time?
If you have any information regarding this request, you can reply to
this email or contact me privately. Thank you in advance,
Grégoire
Hi all,
Is there an open source tool or KiCad plugin that'll convert
a KiCad PCB file to whatever format Seeeed Fucion wants?
I found Osh Park super easy to work with as they have a nice
web gooey to do this and can accept KiCad PCB files.
Seeeed Fusion, however, has instructions on exporting Gerber
files manually, which I followed, but which their system
did not accept. It seems like the kind of conversion that
could be automated away with some software.
Googled around, didn't find anything.
If you know of something that does, this, I'd like to use it.
Thanks.
Greetings Sudo et al, I'm so sorry but I have to bring to your attention a
recent, very unfortunate, inappropriate, and violent encounter a friend of
mine, Deon Saunders, had with a guy named "Rob", who I don't think I know
personally, although I'm sure he's well known around Omni in general. I
don't believe he's a sudo member specifically, but I believe this incident
sort of came into Sudo territory when Marc became involved; I also really
respect and love what Sudo room provides to the community, and I know that
Sudo is a powerful force within the Omni; as such, I'm writing to you all
now because I believe this issue definitely needs to be dealt with, and not
ignored or brushed aside.
Basically, Deon is friends with Phat Beets and Food First, and has been
frequenting the Omni in order to do work and access the community resources
that are available. To my understanding, he often works in the Sudo room
space. Although this should not need to be said, I can personally vouch for
Deon as an upstanding and generous member of the Oakland community.
Deon was having trouble accessing the space the other day and rung the Omni
doorbell several times, at which point guy named Rob opened the door and
started cursing at him and being very aggressive. After Deon was able to
enter Omni, Rob then started following him around and harassing him, acting
like a cop. Although this is egregious in and of itself, and a terrible
counter-representation of the Omni's values, this all came to a head when
Rob accused Deon of not being "an actual, normal, human being". Whether or
not this was intentional, it evoked longstanding racist attitudes that
black folks have been subjected to, suggesting that Deon was less-than, or
sub-human. Deon was so offended that he promptly left the Omni and has not
been back since.
Besides this very loaded and hateful comment, this general kind of
treatment and attitude, overall, is the EXACT opposite of the way black
folks should be treated when interfacing with the Omni. Rob's actions are
not okay, at all, and I strongly feel that a serious accountability process
should be implemented for this incident. This is not a small matter. I've
spoken with Deon, and he has agreed to participate.
I've also heard that this type of incident has happened before at the Omni,
specifically involving Rob. Correct me if I'm wrong, but apparently, the
attitude that was expressed to Deon was that Rob is one of the main people
that operates (i.e. helps to reproduce and sustain,) the Omni, and as such,
people basically go along with what he says and does. If this is in fact
the case, then an accountability process is even more imperative. In no way
should labor, and by proxy, "power" derived from labor, enable a person to
act with racism against members of the Oakland community. I think it's in
the best interest of the Omni to address this issue immediately, for Deon,
for the Omni, and for the Omni's relationship with the greater community of
Oakland.
I believe Marc was present for part of this incident as well, and although
I know, Marc is so busy doing vital work for Sudo and Omni, it might
behoove him to also participate in this process, as a witness.
I am writing this email not because I am trying to "cancel" or ruin anyone,
but because I care about Deon, The Omni, Sudo, and the Oakland community at
large. This issue seems indicative of larger problems, and if addressed
with love and respect and accountability, could seriously benefit all
parties listed above, and improve the Omni and it's relationship with
Oakland.
I'm not sure where to take it from here, as I am personally extremely busy
with other community-based activities in Oakland right now, but a
mediator/facilitator should be sought out, ideally a black person, but at
the very least, a non-black poc, and probably someone that isn't personally
involved in the day-to-day operations at Omni, sudo etc. If i am able, I
could possibly be this mediator, but I hope other options are sought out
first, because a.) I'm a non-black, mixed race poc, and b.) I have very
little capacity at the moment.
But please keep me in the loop regarding an accountability process for Rob,
and I'll do whatever I can to help move this along and reach a fair and
just conclusion.
Sorry to bring such difficult news to you all, but I could not stay silent.
With love and Solidarity,
Scott
I said "your 'community' space," but honestly, I still want this to be my
space, too. I hardly ever make a fuss about any of this stuff because it's
all so futile, you know? but in this case, I really want to make my point
clear: I think we should rescind our action against Rannette. I think
she's been treated unfairly. Even if she is "aggressive" towards you or
your compatriots, I don't think we need white dudes policing our space of
black women's bodies. Matt, you claim to have acted in another's interest
and you offer an injured third party -- let them speak for themselves,
because I don't think it's your place right now. If there was a violent
incident that threatened our space, let's hear it from a witness or an
involved party. "Something Happened" is not good enough. Otherwise "but
above all the Omni
Commons must maintain a safe, welcoming environment" seems to fly directly
in the face of the lived experience of too many black people.
Heads up.

Subject: [Friends of Awe] $10k grants for creative action against voter
suppression
To: <SF-awesome-friends(a)googlegroups.com>
Hi folks,
There are grants available (up to $10k) for creative projects to fight
voter suppression. From an associate:
*“Please tell people and orgs you work with who are in the creative
activism game. *Or anyone who could come up with a creative, effective
project to address the crazy voter problems that are happening all over the
country.
*We’re having an info session online at noon EST on Monday, Aug 31. *Zoom
link
<https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83821567961?pwd=L2JaWFE4MGg4b1lIWEtoZkcydVVQdz09>
.
If you’re interested but don’t have a solid idea yet, do come. We’re
looking to share and brainstorm together.
Here’s a page with more info, and how to apply. We’re asking for *short
letters of interest by Sept 2*. Quick turnaround time, but, we want to get
these projects funded asap!
https://c4aa.org/2020/08/were-funding-creative-u-s-election-projects
We’re looking for creative projects that address the biggest voter
suppression problems, like:
- Lack of poll workers.
- Barriers to voting by mail - lack of voter education on the logistics of
voting during COVID, misinformation, disinformation.
- Voting safely in a pandemic - how can we help people assess the real
risk, minimize it, and/or quell uneeded fears that may stop them from voting
- Outright voter suppression tactics, especially in Black and Indigenous
communities and in communities of other underrepresented groups.
- Preparing people for what happens *after*voting - polling indicates half
the country may not trust the outcome for various reasons. Lawsuits,
challenges, contested elections, and lots of tension are expected.
*To combat them, we need artistic and creative projects that aim to:*
- Keep polling places staffed.
- Ensure that people understand how to effectively vote by mail, drop-off,
or in person.
- Empower people to confidently vote down-ballot in local elections
- Ensure that people know that voting is relevant to the issues that
motivated so many people on the streets in the past months (and years)
- Monitor election boards and hold them accountable, so they can’t, for
example, quietly close polls in communities of color.
- Cultivate engagement, fun, humor, joy, and community around voting and
elections.
- Prepare people for the unknowns that will come after November.
The focus is on states with a history of voter suppression and of special
interest in this election: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan,
Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, but
others as well.
If you know of projects or people who might be a good fit, please let them
know. We’re excited to be able to fund great projects at this critical
time.”

Dear Robb,
I am a member of Critical Resistance and helping to support our
upcoming Imagine Freedom: Art Works for Abolition art auction, running
from September 29th to October 13th and will include some online
events
Please join us for this event coming up! It's going to be great--
there’s a beautiful range of artists and cultural workers
participating, ranging from our movement muralists and printmakers to
elder and internationally renowned artists
We are doing outreach now-- would Omni and any other groups and
networks that you are part of be willing to help boost this event and
be a "Movement Sponsor"? Movement Sponsor involves:
boosting the event and spreading the word: post on social media 3x,
share by email, newsletter or website 1-3x, and/or invite your
membership and base!
bonus step: contribute to our programming and messaging on “Imagine
Freedom: Art Works for Abolition”. Share a photo, a story or a few
sentences on how “Art [can/does] Works for Abolition.” How has your
organization or group used art to amplify or advance your campaigns or
efforts? How have you used art to “Imagine Freedom”? We will include
photos, quotations, and make beautiful materials to amplify how our
movement has utilized art to work for abolition!
In return, we will list you as a Movement Sponsor supporter and share
all event info (viewing links, etc) directly with you. RSVP by
replying to this message saying YES and with your image or quotation
about Art for Abolition. If the file is large, please add it directly
here and include your org name in the File name.
We also are inviting sponsorship donations from $100+. If you are able

if you had more than 15 github followers last april you
can get $1300 in bitcoin by running these commands:
https://www.namebase.io/airdrop
you may not feel like $1300 is very much, but if that's the case then just give
it to sudoroom :)
something that's more interesting than that is the blinded signing (sort of)
that they're doing using your ssh key (which is how they limit the money to
people whose keys they scraped a year ago) is VERY applicable to Secure Polling
System's need for blinded signing (although they're doing it to RSA keys)
https://help.namebase.io/article/4vchu01mec-handshake-airdrop-101#why_does_…
anyway, everyone who can should do this, and everyone should give money to
sudoroom, and everyone should help develop secure polling system.

The roll still in the box as new, never used.
Please let me know if interested, so I will bring it over when I get the

The Alameda Green Party could use a hand.

Looks like it runs on Windows & MacO$. It sort of runs in Wine:

Greg, I'm forwarding this to the sudoroom list, maybe there are folks
there who know FileMaker and would be willing to pitch in.
I don't do Windohs, but if you can't find anyone else to do this maybe I
could take a throw at helping a little if I can get the trial version of
"share"ware version to run under Wine in Linux.

Subject: Urgent! Do you know how to use FileMaker? Or know someone who
might know how to use it?! (Re: Sending out Questionnaires)
Date: Wed, 22 Jul 2020 03:06:24 +0000 (UTC)
From: Greg Jan <gregjan4(a)yahoo.com>
To: Green Party of Alameda County Council <countycouncil(a)lists.riseup.net>
All,
It's now going to be very difficult for the person who has sent out most
of our Voter Guide questionnaires for previous elections, for many years
now, to again do so this year. So we now _urgently need to find one (or
more) other people to help out with this_! It's currently set up in
FileMaker, so it would be best to find someone who knows how to use that
program, if possible. (Or -- you can use another program, or even do it
"manually", if you'd like to).
The deadline for questionnaires to be written and submitted to be sent
out is Monday, August 3rd, and the candidate filing deadline is Friday,
August 7th. We should therefore be able to obtain the candidates'
official contact info on approximately Tuesday. August 11th, so
questionnaires can be sent out just as soon as we've loaded that data
into the program. (And we might even load in some "unofficial" contact
info prior to receiving the official contact info).
We ask the candidates to RSVP that they've received the questionnaire,
but usually only about half of them do that, so you'll then send out the
questionnaire again to the remaining candidates, and then after that
you'll send a phone-calling list to our volunteer to telephone the ones
who still haven't RSVP'd. And finally, at the "end of the process",
when the deadline to return the questionnaire passes (about 10 days
after they're sent out), for those who haven't yet returned it, you'll
email them a notice to please return it right away, and then after that,
another phone list for our volunteer to telephone them to please return
their questionnaire.
So -- _please reply back right away if you can help out with this_! /Or
if you know someone who might be able to help (and who is
"trustworthy"), please do ask them! / (Or of course, if you have any
questions, please do ask!).
Thanks so much!,
Greg

Are you good at building electronic and mechanical gear? Want to help build
a rig to test Covid-19 face masks and materials for filtration efficiency
and breathability?
We have a plan, and can contribute some funding to get the components. But
we really *need someone to spearhead this project! If interested, please
contact me at patrikd(a)gmail.com <patrikd(a)gmail.com>*, and we can sort out
the logistics...
People around the world are sewing DIY cloth masks, or buying N95 masks
from dubious suppliers with little or no quality control. There is a big
need for being able to test cloth materials and completed masks for
filtration efficiency and breathability. But the official, professional
testing gear costs around $90,000.
The Smart Air folks in Beijing built this far more accessible testing rig,
and used it to show that half of the N95 masks they sourced from different
Chinese suppliers did not meet specs:
https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/testing-china-kn95-n95-masks-supplement…
[image: Smart-Air-N95-mask-test-setup-wind-tunnel.jpg]
The Met One GT-521 particle counter that Smart Air used in their setup
costs around $2000 new. But Adafruit sells a $45 Arduino-compatible
particle counter module <https://www.adafruit.com/product/4632> that can
measure down to 0.3 micron. A DIY version of this rig can probably be built
for around $100 total. (Alternatively, a used Met One GT-321
<https://www.ebay.com/itm/Metone-Portable-Particle-Counter-GT-321-Used-/1139…>
particle counter costs around $600. Or a PerfectPrime AQ9600
<https://perfectprime.com/products/aq9600> particle counter only costs
around $200 new)
The plan would be to do some research on which fans and pressure sensors to
use, order some materials, build a test rig, document the heck out of it so
others can replicate it (e.g. on Instructables or Hackaday), and start
testing mask materials - maybe in collaboration with Rachel at Ace Monster
Toys and the other folks in the Bay Area PPE group that are sewing
thousands of masks right now.
Our biggest bottleneck right now is that we need someone to lead the actual
building. I definitely want to be involved, can help with the research and
design, and am willing to put in some of my own money to buy supplies. But
I'm also still 100% Working From Home for my day job and don't have the
bandwidth right now to take this on by myself.
Help wanted!
Patrik
Wanted to share this short video of our first #TestThePeople action - kudos
to Anka of LibLens for the videography and post-production work, par
excellence!
https://youtu.be/hgjjBBaAjlw
Please reach out directly if you have ideas around 1) future actions we
could support with pre- and post-action testing, 2) possible testing
locations (eg; school or church parking lots - ideally outdoors, ideally
with power), or 3) community org collaborations for popup COVID testing.
