The first email I sent was two large two send (with the three photos I
attached), so I'm hacking around it by adding a screenshot of the original
email with the three photos.
I was working on a project with it yesterday and it's really efficient.
Improvements are a Space big enough to work on 4x8 flats, a table that's
easy to clamp to. Overall study as well.
Dear Sudo Room,
Here's your invoice! We appreciate your prompt payment.
Thank you for stewarding the commons.

I've proposed a change in how we give people access to Omni. Thoughts?

Subject: Letting members vouch for others to have key cards
To: <consensus(a)omnicommons.org>
Right now our policy is to only give key cards to members of
collectives or working groups. People typically get a card by asking
in person from somebody who knows how to add them (usually me, Jake or
Anthony Di Franco) but I always encourage people to use this form:
https://omnicommons.org/keys/ The form goes to a mailing list and I'm
usually the one who follows up on those.
I feel that the current rules are not flexible enough. There's a lot
of cases where it's easier for everybody if non-members have keys:
* people putting on events with significant set-up periods. More than
one commons working group member has asked me to give them extra keys
so they can hand out temporaries to the event runners they work with.
* People doing volunteer work which is only ambiguously affiliated
with a working group, or for a working group without a formal
membership process (which is almost all of them...) Recently I
declared two new people to be members of the building wg (Ian C & Matt
L) because they were doing so much work, but it was hard to know what
the right move was, and I got pushback
* People who have been long-standing guests of members for so long
that we all see and trust, but they either can't or won't apply
officially
* Probably a lot more cases also
Those of us with the power to approve keys are often caught between
allowing the rules to be stretched in order to make life easier for
other volunteers, or being accused of abusing our power. I don't like
it.
An even more difficult burden is put on people who answer the doorbell
and have to decide on the spot whether to accept and vouch for the
person in front of them who wants access, who they may not even know.
This problem has led to significant conflicts. Wouldn't it be better
if that decision was made asynchronously so everybody has time to
contemplate the question and talk to each other before things become
urgent and heated?
I propose that we enable more people to have access to Omni by letting
active members vouch for other people. This way we can give people a
key card even if they're not directly a member of a collective or
working group. When they apply, we can ask "which members will vouch
for you" and then confirm with those people. We'd keep track of who's
vouching for who, and if there's ever a problem, we know who to talk
to.
Thoughts?
Hey Sudoers, this proposal will be up for discussion at Omni's
delegate assembly this Thursday (7/18) and hopefully ready for
consensus on 8/1. As Sudoroom's acting delegate, please let me know of
any questions or concerns you all have. Everyone is welcome at
delegate assemblies.
I think this is a great thing for Omni. I love Phat Beets and I've
been hoping they'd join officially for a long time.
Sudoroom's monthly meetings are supposed to happen on 2nd Wednesdays,
but it looks like we missed July's already. Would anybody be up for a
meeting this Wednesday 7/17 instead?
As usual, it would be great if any new members want to become an Omni
delegate. It's a relatively easy way to get involved!

(v2)
To everyone on this email thread,
Before you jump to read my experience below I would like to first say a few things. I ask that you read my full response and if you have something to say about it that you talk to me in person. I did not behave 'out of the norm' for Omni standards. In fact, on most days with less traffic and no regular meetings I am usually the person to answer the doorbell after 5 minutes of annoying ringing yet my behavior was never hostile to any guest of Omni. There is no reason or rational for racist behavior and that includes ringing a doorbell. I have had the time to read the evolution of email thread which has only made me nauseated. I would also like to point out that racism isn't a card non Europeans pull out to feel better about themselves. In fact, when one makes the decision to call out racism behavior we always have to evaluate the risk we take which more often than not leads society to call us: sensitive, crazy, unwarranted, narcissistic, attention hungry, claiming a false handicap, or ______ (a number of other things). Reading your responses and to see them go from "Is this real? (because this is Omni - a safe space!)" - to - {Insert joke here} has been honestly not surprising given the current state of things in the world. Anger doesn't describe my current feelings about the situation just disappointment and confirmation that some people in this world will never treat black folks with respect. I thought Omni was a safe space for me for a long time but I now realize Omni is just another space in the Bay Area that isn't a real safe people to ask other people to be accountable for their behavior. I asked my friend to try and start a mediation process so I could come back into the space without being treated like a violent male and also give the other person to room to be accountable and grow from this experience. Yet, after seeing the chain of emails I realized that Omni is just a space to give white folks the freedom to wash there hands of any guilt they may have without actually doing the work to remove themselves of behaviors we all are conditioned with growing up here on captive Native American soil. With that said I was looking for some process to be but in place so this does happen again to someone else but I have only seen this going from the original call for mediation to an inside joke. At this point I really don't care what Omni does because if post Occupy toxic men run Omni then that is all it will ever be and as a black person I don't have the energy to teach white people how not to be racist. That's not my job - I don't do that.
TLDR; a toxic person is rude to someone and instead of coming to there senses about their actions after being given the benefit of the doubt they decide to be even more toxic.
Response:
I rang the doorbell a couple times thinking someone would get to get pretty quickly. After a few minutes of waiting I decided to ring it again. I figured either no one could hear me and was in the back so after about 5 minutes or so of waiting I decided to ring the bell continuously instead of in discrete intervals and waiting for a response. Rob opens the door slightly without inviting me to enter (which has never happened in the past - normally people are friendly and inviting into the space). Having see him around the space 3 days week for the past 2 years in passing I said "Hey, my names Deon I see you around the space often I was just coming in to work on stuff." He says in a extremely hostile tone "I've never seen you before I don't know who you are. Who are you?" Weird flex but ok. I say "I'm Deon and I helped start the village (FTP) - do you know Needa B?" He goes "No, I don't know who that is or who you are. Why the fuck are you ringing the doorbell like that." It was obvious that Rob did not trust me from jump because of ______? Also, how are you 'apart' or Omni and don't know Needa B? OK! At that point I explain the obvious - I was trying to get in the space. He continues to speak in a hostile tone and curse saying random things about me not behaving like a normal human and how annoying I was for ringing the doorbell of a couple minutes. Instead or fighting fire with fire like a brute I decided to give him space to be accountable for his behavior and demanded that he speak to me with respect or that he respect my boundaries and stop talking to me. I waited until he finished to explain to him that it is not ok to speak to me in that way because it's extremely rude and unless I disrespected him there is NO reason for him to talk to me in a disrespectful manner - in particular cursing me out. He then says "I didn't curse at you - I don't like that accusation." At this point I realize that he either: A. Has mental health related issues. - or - B. Does not have ability clam down and use communication skills to be accountable for his behavior and start a fresh respectful conversation. I immediately told him "If you cannot be an adult and take responsibility for the way you are coming at me right now then I can't be talking to you. And just so you know this is no way to build friendships in a space like this by talking to people like that. Have a good day, peace." I walk upstairs to the room where people do yoga and stuff to mind my own business. Right behind me is pissed off 'BBQ Bob' he storms in and yells "What is your name?" He then claims he is responsible for me being in the space and that if I were to hurt someone that falls him! If he didn't remember my name from the last time I told him I'm not telling him while he's profiling me as dangerous to the space. I refused to tell him my name and I told him to stop harassing me. If you are 'white' reading this thinking this behavior isn't racist you are the problem. If you are a man and think there is nothing wrong with following people around profiling them for no reason you are the problem. When a non European person tells you that your behavior is discriminating chances are they aren't waving a magic wand in the air to get rid of you. They are under verbal or physical attack. If this behavior of policing isn't rooted in racism I don't know what is! At this point I realize that he believes I am a threat to the space and he won't stop shouting things like "I need to know who you are and who you are with or you cannot be here. Needa B isn't apart of Omni! If you were a normal human being I wouldn't be doing this!" I am not going to explain why this specific language is rooted in racism. If you do not understand why hire a POC to teach you or do the work to educate yourself. If you are white and think it is ok to follow a black man around referring to them as potentially hostile after reading this you are the problem. At this point I'm using all of my energy not to explode because this is the EXACT behavior that causes black people to be murdered by police. And for the record just because someone participates in Occupy and cleans the closet at Omni does not absolve you of racist behavior. So then I said find lets go find people who know me so you can see I'm not dangerous. So then I walk over to the hacker space where two people who I interact with on occasion were sitting. [I originally began the first cleanup efforts in that space and have spent at least 20 hours of my time organizing that space by myself.] They attempted to mediate the altercation yet Rob justified profiling me as a person who would do harm members of Omni by relaying this entire incident to me not being fully human because I was a little impatient with a doorbell(??). He also states that Needa B is not a member of the Omni and that she our rents office space and keeps her 'shit' in the basement that she needs to come get. Wait..... what? Needa B may not be a member of Omni but to reduce the work she as done in the City of Oakland fighting for rights on the front-line is past disrespectful. Had I known Omni didn't like or respect Needa I would have stopped going there all together. At some point one of the two who were trying to mediate says "Rob is the number two person at Omni so whatever he says goes." Huh? Omni has a hierarchy in which labor can be a means to gain political power of the space? A space which is advertised as a 'safe' space for all? At this point I have given him multiple chances to communicate with me like an adult and be accountable for his behavior. I realized that not only do I have no support in the space but that if he continues to harass me his hall space at Omni won't prevent me from treating him the way I treat all white men who behave towards me in this manor. He then decides to reference me not being a human - again. So, I said "Oh yeah because I forgot black people aren't human we don't give birth we hatch our kids." I then stormed out in anger and said "if you follow me outside I'm kicking yo ass!" Usually when white men behave like Nazi I don't give them the space for growth I treat them like Antifa treats Nazi. So if you think for a second I was hostile toward this cis-white male you have no idea what self defense is. I have the right to defend myself against any and all attackers no matter who they are and his continuous petty hostile behavior told me that he did not have the tools to communicate with another person and that he does not understand the magnitude of what he was doing which puts me as a human in no other position except to defend myself from any further hostile behavior. If you do not agree with this it is because you have no idea what it means to be black in America. The amount of courage it took to walk away time and time again instead of escalating the situation to the point of dragging this 60 kg [soaking wet] cis-white male outside to teach him about his racism. So before any of you call me hostile I ask you to think about how I could have reacted to this situation from jump street. Instead, I choose to treat this individual like a human and understand where he was coming from. Sad to say I did receive the same common courtesy. Wish you all the best.
Peace,
D

I don't believe he's a sudo member specifically, but I believe this incident sort of came into Sudo territory when Marc became involved; I also really respect and love what Sudo room provides to the community, and I know that Sudo is a powerful force within the Omni; as such, I'm writing to you all now because I believe this issue definitely needs to be dealt with, and not ignored or brushed aside.

To my understanding, he often works in the Sudo room space. Although this should not need to be said, I can personally vouch for Deon as an upstanding and generous member of the Oakland community.
>
> Deon was having trouble accessing the space the other day and rung the Omni doorbell several times, at which point guy named Rob opened the door and started cursing at him and being very aggressive. After Deon was able to enter Omni, Rob then started following him around and harassing him, acting like a cop. Although this is egregious in and of itself, and a terrible counter-representation of the Omni's values, this all came to a head when Rob accused Deon of not being "an actual, normal, human being". Whether or not this was intentional, it evoked longstanding racist attitudes that black folks have been subjected to, suggesting that Deon was less-than, or sub-human. Deon was so offended that he promptly left the Omni and has not been back since.
>
> Besides this very loaded and hateful comment, this general kind of treatment and attitude, overall, is the EXACT opposite of the way black folks should be treated when interfacing with the Omni. Rob's actions are not okay, at all, and I strongly feel that a serious accountability process should be implemented for this incident. This is not a small matter. I've spoken with Deon, and he has agreed to participate.
>
> I've also heard that this type of incident has happened before at the Omni, specifically involving Rob. Correct me if I'm wrong, but apparently, the attitude that was expressed to Deon was that Rob is one of the main people that operates (i.e. helps to reproduce and sustain,) the Omni, and as such, people basically go along with what he says and does. If this is in fact the case, then an accountability process is even more imperative. In no way should labor, and by proxy, "power" derived from labor, enable a person to act with racism against members of the Oakland community. I think it's in the best interest of the Omni to address this issue immediately, for Deon, for the Omni, and for the Omni's relationship with the greater community of Oakland.

This issue seems indicative of larger problems, and if addressed with love and respect and accountability, could seriously benefit all parties listed above, and improve the Omni and it's relationship with Oakland.
>
> I'm not sure where to take it from here, as I am personally extremely busy with other community-based activities in Oakland right now, but a mediator/facilitator should be sought out, ideally a black person, but at the very least, a non-black poc, and probably someone that isn't personally involved in the day-to-day operations at Omni, sudo etc. If i am able, I could possibly be this mediator, but I hope other options are sought out first, because a.) I'm a non-black, mixed race poc, and b.) I have very little capacity at the moment.

Hey all,
I'm working on a side project on creating personal filters for the upcoming
fire season and am in need of raw HEPA filter material and/or also
activated carbon/charcoal material as well. Does anyone know who I could
reach out to to find this? Most of it's produced in China but if anyone has
any extra lying around or has a friend who works in creating filters please
let me know.
CCL and sudo room are both getting stuff donated from Rikke's work.
CCL is getting a new -80 which will make the whole room quieter and
sudo room is getting some new nice work tables.
We will need to clear out space for the tables before next weekend
(Sunday). I'll be at sudo room today working on that.
If anyone from sudo room is able to help move stuff next weekend then
please sign up (see email below).

Subject: [CCL] Equipment move - the final plan
To: Counter Culture Labs Members <cclmembers(a)googlegroups.com>, CCL
board <cultlabsboard(a)googlegroups.com>, cclabs
<counterculturelabs(a)googlegroups.com>
Hey everyone,
*tl;dr - we're moving everything next Sunday 7/21, expected 10AM-3PM
commitment.*
First off, I apologize for the confusion regarding planning for the
equipment move - it's taken me longer to pull everything together than
expected. Secondly, thank you to everyone who's chimed in to say they are
willing to help...hopefully, we've managed to come up with a plan that
still allows you to do so. I've created a volunteer sign-up sheet
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18sINDXqbovdTNbC5TzizESanCKfbLO2Fpos…>
to help us coordinate.
*So, without further ado, here's the plan:*
1) We will all meet at the site in Hayward - 4030 Point Eden Way - at 10AM;
we'll try to make sure that everything is staged and ready to load on the
truck. We're getting a 16' truck w/ 6000lbs capacity, so I expect we'll be
able to fit everything in one load. Patrik is going to be organizing a
carpool pickup from CCL around 9:30AM - please be on time if you want a
ride or are giving others a ride so we can stay within the expected time
window.
2) Loading will take roughly an hour, and there's a 30-45min drive to
Oakland, so we'll be at CCL around 12PM where everyone who couldn't make it
to Hayward will meet us to help unload and get everything moved inside and
set up. This will likely take another 2 hours or so if we don't have to
spend time clearing space for our new equipment.
3) If possible, we will then load up the old equipment (-80 freezer,
possibly a fridge?) and move it to wherever it needs to go. This is
dependent upon us having a plan for what we're doing with the old freezer,
so let's spend this coming week figuring that out.
*Things that need to happen before next Sunday:*
1) Stage everything at Hayward so it's ready to load (Rikke, Patrik, one
more person if possible
- happening Sunday 7/14 at 10AM, same address as above)
2) Clear space for the new equipment at CCL and sudo room, in particular
the benches (Marc, can you coordinate this at sudo room?)
3) Coordinate car pooling to and from Hayward for anyone who needs a ride
or has space to provide one

Adam has a really nice Roland MDX-540 CNC mill that he's willing to bring to
sudoroom. But it's a really big heavy fancy machine and has a dedicated
computer, and should get set up in a semi-permanent location.
Presently sudoroom has a DIY shapeoko machine which hasn't seen much use. I'd
like to move the Shapeoko along to somewhere else and have people use the
Roland instead.
What do people think about this? I am thinking it should go in the corner
opposite the fridge.

I walked by the old baby supply store tonight (Baby World) at 44th and
Telegraph and there were some people selling T-shirts there.
They were from Critical Resistance.
Turns out someone donated that entire building to them and it's
Critical Resistance Oakland's new headquarters!
Thought I'd spread the good news :)

Mkay so there’s apparently an ICE protest in SF from 8am-12p, but not then
after? It’s my only free day off (also true for most other people) and,
given the symbolism, I would MUCH rather protest ICE then celbrate the
4th. Anything going on that I am not seeing on the interwebs? No one I
have talked to at Omni seems to know about one. I don’t give a shit about
barbecue for tomorrow. Am I the only one?!

Hi All,
My landlord is selling the building, and offered me enough money to entice me to move out.
So, I'm wanting to donate all of my electronics and tools to Sudo Room.
Jake suggested I post to the list.
In addition to the electronics and tools, I also have all MAKE magazines from #1 through #30 (and some of their books), and all 2600 Hacker Quarterly magazines since 2006. Would these be of interest? How about other electronics books?
I also have the last 180 of my NeuroDreamer sleep masks (new, in their boxes), most of which need their small LiPo batteries replaced. These take up a bunch of space in their boxes. Jake expressed that these might be interesting to have.
Please discuss. And if Sudo Room is collectively interested in any or all, please let me know.
Anything Sudo Room doesn't want goes to the SF recycling center.
I'll be ready to donate after 30-June.
If it's of interest, anyone have a pickup or a van? Or, should I rent one?
Best,
Mitch.
A while back I had a discussion with Matt Senate about the declining number
of Sudoroom members. His comment was that the single biggest factor in his
view was the lack of affordable housing which he referred to as the "horror
of housing".
This week in Marin county a homeless encampment near me in San Rafael was
razed to the ground by a gasoline-can wielding arsonist. The police posted
a "campsite warning notice" 3 days prior to the attack, then went on to say
that there is nothing they could do about it because a of a recent federal
ruling. This situation caused a near uproar among Marin county residents on
sites such as Nextdoor.
The victim of the arson attack Damain stated that he was sieeping inside a
structure with his girlfriend when he heard a thump on the roof and a
whoosh of the structure erupting in flames. He was barely able to escape
and pull his girlfriend from the fire. When the fire department arrived
they took no action to put out the fire. The police were laughing at
Damian's girlfriend who was wearing nothing but her underwear and was
wrapped in a blanket. The emergency responders did not check the victims to
see if they were suffering from burns or smoke inhalation. Afterwards the
police said that fires start at homeless campsites all the time and that
Damian should consider moving on.
Since the camp is nearby our sanctuary in Marin I saw the site before and
after the attack and took a video of one of the victims: Solution to
homelessness in Marin County - arson and attempted murder?
<https://youtu.be/FT4KFUzY2UU>
Here is a link to an article that came out today in the MarinIJ:
https://www.marinij.com/2019/06/24/san-rafael-police-investigate-encampment…
I am currently working with an ee engineer in the area to deploy sensors on
the site and have delivered supplies and clothing to the victims.
Here's some images of the Seiko SMI 3200 Scanning Electron Microscope that
is in need of a new home:
http://www.beamservices.com/used-equipment.htmlhttp://www.caeonline.com/listing/product/9025735/seiko-smi-3200
Note that this is NOT a small system! It's not huge as SEM's go, but
definitely not desktop - more like "small room sized". And it would
obviously need some dedicated person to keep it in good running condition.
It is however almost brand new, and currently *running*, at <5nm resolution!
Beam Services Inc is down in Pleasanton, so I guess interested parties
could potentially go and have a look at the system. This kind of equipment
would be a significant commitment and investment in time and effort on our
part, so let's coordinate on this shall we?

Hey fiends, I needed to take a bath anyway, so I overcame my revulsion
and upgraded the iMac from 4GB to 12 GB of memory. as you can see from
the attached screenshot. I also connected the big monitor to the right,
I don't know if it was disconnected for a specific reason.
It looks like the ethernet cable is disconnected, so the iMuck was using
wifi. Anka came in and informed me that the ethernet is not working for
the Hackintush, either, and has been down for a week or so. I screwed
around with the DHCP settings in OSX, but no luck. So I rebooted to
Linux on the Hackentosh and confirmed that the ethernet is not working
there, either. Someone added a PCI-E network adapter to the Hack, so I
tried jacking into the onboard ethernet, no joy. And I found a piece of
ethernet cable lying on the ground, so I used to to directly jack in to
each of the 2 ethernet ports that come in from the hall directly,
squatissimo. So I connected the random bit of ethernet to the iMac and
each of the ethernet jacks coming into the office, but as soon as I
turned off the wifi I lost connectivity.
So it appears that LL1 & LL2 ethernet jacks are no long connected to the
server above the sudoroom. The ethernet was working in the LL orifice a
couple of weeks ago when I hooked up the new monitor to the Hackentosh
and replaced funky M.2 SSD with a new Linux SSD. Possibly something
didn't get hooked up after the Omni router died from from heat stroke &
got replaced on or about June 9th. I traced the white LL1 & LL2 cables
back up to the sudoroom server farm, but then got lost in the hell-broth
of cables, and my "brain" exploded, so fixing this issue is above my
pay-grade.
So, I scavenged a USB wifi dongle off of one of the GCEA boxes in the
hall (that didn't have a mouse, anyway), so the Linux and Windows 10
sides of the Hackentosh now have internet, but with O$X with its
wonderful tradition of "Think Different" refuses to recognize the cheesy
Edimax EW-7811Un wifi dongle.
Anyone have any suggestions to get the ethernet working again?
Steamy puddles of affection,
Einstein & Ed
Dear Sudo Room,

Hey y'all! Long time, but I'm thinking my health is finally getting to the
point where I might be able to grace the halls of sudo once more.
Next term, I'll be taking diffeq, and part of the class is coming up with
real-world applications of differential equations and then solving them. I
came to the conclusion pretty quickly that I also wanted to build
something, and while dreaming of cat toys and thinking about pendulums, I
realized I was missing the obvious solution: pendulum clocks.
There are quite a few resources out there for building a pendulum clock,
some of them 3D printable and some of them wooden, but I was leaning more
towards doing one in wood, although possibly printing the timing wheel,
then sharpening it down more precisely by hand.
I'm currently looking at basing it off of these plans:
http://www.woodenclocks.co.uk/Clock%207-PR-3.PDF
So my questions are:
Does anyone have any experience with clock building?
How is the laser cutter functioning currently?
Are there any issues a novice clockbuilder should look out for?
What questions haven't I thought of?

To my knowledge (I've been at Omni everyday since), the scaffolding has not
been used since the skin project & it is missing.
If anyone knows where it is, please, let me know. I need to put the curtain
back up in the rafters before an event next week, since the skin project
removed it & failed to put it back up.

Last week I went to a potluck at Queerious Labs in SF. Their wiki has
a formal breakdown of who has access to what, including their KeePass:
https://wiki.queeriouslabs.com/organization/access
I think we should do something similar with our passpack. I've handed
pieces of paper with the passpack info to a few people who I know have
taken on sysadmin roles in the past. But tbh I'm not comfortable with
having that much centralized decision-making power, and I'd rather the
general membership just decide who should have this power and who
shouldn't.
Once that happens, I'd like to change our mailing list master
passwords and put those in the passpack also, so that hopefully more
people can do list moderation.
Tonight is 2nd Wednesday, which is supposed to be our monthly meeting.
I can't make it, but would like to put this on the agenda for others
to discuss. Thanks!
If you are a member of sudoroom, you are invited to join the members
mailing list: https://sudoroom.org/lists/listinfo/members
It has been seeing more activity lately, mostly about new member
applications & nominations. We make most decisions in public, but we
discuss new members in private.
Hi all,
Just wanted to let people know that it turns out I'll be moving back to the
east coast soon, which unfortunately means I'll be ending my membership bid
with Sudo Room.
It was really nice meeting everyone who I had a chance to run into, and I
was looking forward to getting more involved in the community. But the east
coast has made its call, so looks like my time here will be cut short.
Best,
Nick
The internet is down.
Both the gateway is down and the wifi access points are not showing
up. I have not yet troubleshooted why the access points are down but
that may be simply because the gateway is gone.
The gateway overheated and may be dead. It had no CPU fan and no case
fans. It only had a small fan on the northbridge and that fan wasn't
working.
We have not been able to get it to boot even after letting it cool,
resetting the CMOS and installing an oversized fan.
We have a couple of more things to try but it looks like it's dead. I
will try to swap in a different computer.

Anka, Thursday I replaced the Apple monitor with a slightly larger
monitor, it has a higher screen resolution (1920x1080 vs. 1680x1050) and
is a bit bigger and should have good color reproduction & better viewing
angles, it is IPS. If not the old monitor is near the GCEA computers. I
also replaced the M.2 SSD Linux install on the Hackintush with a regular
2.5" SSD drive with Linux, the previous M.2 install was flaky,
frequently giving me cryptic messages and not booting.
But I experienced some extreme weirdness when I was messing with the
computer which I meant to report to the list, but my brain don't work so
good any more, and it was never particularly great in the first place,
so it slipped my mind when I got home.
First, I wanted to use the desk lamp with the CFL bulb to see what I was
doing under the table, but it wasn't working. The power strip was
plugged in near the Cat 5 jack, so I tried plugging the power strip into
the wall socket near the hackintush, no joy. I tried another power
strip, no luck, then I realized that the lights on the power strips were
not lit up, _*BOTH*_ of the wall sockets are dead. I astutely noticed
all the extension cords bringing power from outside of the office, so I
plugged in to an extension and finally was able to get a light on.
So I got on my belly and grabbed the Hackintosh and got a pretty
substantial jolt even though I had flipped the switch off on the power
supply. So I pulled the Hack's power cable and continued to get little
shocks most whenever I touched the computer's body. I have NEVER had
anything like this happen in a close to 30 years of mucking with
'puters. I asked Dante if concrete conducted electricity, and he didn't
think so, but then he looked it up and told me that concrete is an
excellent conductor.
My guess is that whoever installed the electrical outlets,
cough...Gerald...cough.. mucked things up with the ground and basically
the whole office is now acting like some sort of ground. I actually
don't know shit about electricity, I discussed my experience with Yar,
Jenny & Rob, and they all said this sort of thing shouldn't be
happening, but they were a bit out of their depths fixing it, and I
should talk to my friend...Gerald. With friends like me who needs
enemas? Maybe Jake or Marc have a theory, I'll CC the sudoroom list and
the building folks.
Anywho, when I fired up the new Linux install I initially got the same
error messages that I was getting from the old M.2 Linux install. So I
tried O$X and got the same weird rebooting behavior you got, Anka. On
subsequent boots both the Linux and the Mac sides worked fine, so I
figured whatever it was had worked its way out of the system. Yes, I
know, I'm an idiot, and I don't need you lot to remind me. FWIW, Windows
booted like a champ when I fired it up to adjust the monitors and update
the operating system. Before I could 'troubleshoot' too much more my
first wife came by the Omni to offer us a ride home, and I didn't feel
like hoofing it back 4 miles to home with with my geriatric mongrel
Einstein.
So since I have never been shocked by an unplugged computer before I'm
guessing the machine is being surged with static electricity
<https://www.howtogeek.com/169994/how-to-protect-your-pcs-hardware-from-stat…>
and it might be damaging the machine, but is certainly fucking with its
functionality. What we may need to do is hire an actual electrician to
sort out the power situation in the office if we can't find anyone to do
it for free, I'll certainly throw a C note or two at it at it.
In the mean time, we could try and figure out what doesn't conduct
electricity and put the computers on that. Diamond
<https://www.thoughtco.com/examples-of-electrical-conductors-and-insulators-…>
is supposed to work well, but if we don't have enough of that lying
around, dry wood also apparently serves.
I can also try replacing the power supply, but I'm almost certain that
isn't the issue. In the meantime, at least with me, trying to boot again
seemed to work. I will duck my head in tonight after the LL film and see
if I can't scare up a little wood to put under the machines (that didn't
come out quite right, but you get the idea).

Hey Sudoers!
These folks from the FYE collective want to join Omni. They're
offering $350+ for a basement room that's currently vacant except for
some junk. It's also got a messed up wall and a missing door and
they're offering to fix it up. They'd also be maintaining the 'media
lab' basement area adjacent to sudo (as common space).
Our next delegates meeting is in a week (Thursday June 6). It would be
great if people could reply ASAP with any questions or concerns they
have, so we could consent next week. This is a 3 month trial period,
so no huge risk to us.
I've met with Asaad and Shido a few times. I love the positive energy
they bring, and I think they are a really great fit for Omni.
Thanks!
Yar

Subject: [omni-consensus] FYE Collective Application
To: <consensus(a)lists.omnicommons.org>, <artbyshido(a)gmail.com>,
<abbenmiloud(a)gmail.com>
Greetings to all
This is Asaad Bruno (AB) on behalf of FYE Collective - reaching out
with a final application to join Omni. Attached is our application
and an introductory roster of the collective's core.
We had presented a draft in final stages of this application during
the last delegate meeting, receiving encouraging and constructive
feedback. So we tailored our proposal down to a tangible plan, agreed
as fair and dynamic, and now finally finished it after reviewing
logistics with David K. yesterday, notably to activate/occupy Office
#8 and the Community Lab.
The process of discovering and integrating has been very educational,
allowing to learn with excitement. We thank you all thus far in making
this experience valuable in many ways, especially being facilitated by
kind souls with creative spirit. Our collective is eager for the
future growing with Omni!
With the next delegate meeting a week away, we are hoping this
application can reach as many collectives/members as possible for
further advancement :)
Please feel free to reach us with any feedback - encouragement or concern.
Thank you all for your consideration and time in processing this application.
With love,
AB

We've been cleaning and renovating Omni's storage closet for the past
week. A lot of the stuff in there might be better off in Sudoroom, and
some of it is duplicated. Anyone object to merging the collections?
I'm especially thinking of:
* fasteners, bits
* tools
* electrical supplies (wire, conduit, junction boxes)
* materials (wood, metal)
We wouldn't merge everything - things that are high value or likely to
be stolen would stay in omni storage.
Thoughts? Offers to help? :)
The metcal soldering iron is no longer on any of the soldering benches.

Nope, just finding a good adhesive for reattaching it is hard. I ended up
just using an open cell foam pad to push the header on the glass
mechanically.
Only advice is to not be too aggressive and let the glue take its time to
release. Doingbot while warm would help.

Cool! Hey is there any reason why I can't do that end then just flip the

Any tips on getting the heating pad off?

We could have gigabit internet at Omni!
LMI sent this almost 2 months ago and I'm not sure how to reply
because the account is still in Marc Juul's name.
Is there a way to change the account to give multiple people access to it?
I just passed a Sonic truck on Shattuck on my way over here today.
They're putting optical splitters to peoples' houses less than a mile
up the road. It's time for us to get some of this. :)

Hey there! Jake suggested I message you all cause I'm having trouble with
some weird things I'm trying to do with a new Macbook Pro with the USB-C
ports.. I use a bunch of different USB-2 devices (including some Nintendo
Gamecube to USB-2 ones) as MIDI controllers for Ableton Live. One of the
controllers is a trackball mouse - both that and the two game controllers
go into this program called Junxion Lite to convert their signals into
MIDI, then there's an external keypad, a midi keyboard, a little dj
controller, two generic Arduino boards that control LED's, and a Makey
Makey circuit board. That's 9 USB-2 devices I'm trying to get in there. I
have a couple different USB-2 hubs and a USB2 to USBC hub.. I've managed
to make it all work but inconsistently Ableton crashes when I activate the
Max Arduino plugin. Also the Junxion settings keep needing to be changed
cause the devices get ordered in a new way, apparently, every time I
restart the computer. This all works fine on my older Macbook. It's a
fucking nightmare and I don't really know that much about how computers
work. Arlo has been trying to help me long-distance but he says it's a bit
over his head. I'm going to meet with him in person on Saturday to see if
we can make any headway, but just thought I'd put this out there in case
anyone has ideas or anything. Okay thanks <3

I may have left a motor controller on the brown table tuesday night, if it
is black and has green connectors on it. If you see it please set it
aside for me / don't e-waste it. It is broken but I can fix it.
Cheers

Hi Folks,
It's about time for me to hit that old familiar dusty road back to Texas
on Friday. I know I haven't been around much in the past few years but
sudo room will always be a special pocket in space and time for me.
When we really needed it in our lives we created it and many have moved
on for various reasons, and many more have found it and provided the
needed forward momentum and evolution. I happened to walk by 2141
Broadway and took this pic of the old sudo room building which I
understand is soon off to rejoin the sands of time. I'll miss you all
and I know many of you I've already seen for the last time without
knowing it over the past year or so. I'll be back around occasionally
and Austin is always a great place to come visit. Just keep pushing
until then, alright? I'll try to do the same.
Love,
Hol

Hi,
Is there anyone here who knows how to solder/replace keyswitches for
mechanical keyboards, and might be able to show me how to do it? One of the
switches in my Kinesis Advantage stopped working, and Kinesis sent me a
replacement switch which I need to install myself.
Thanks!
Sidharth
Last night I took the door to the Harry Potter closet off its hinges.
I started prying nails off the plywood on the other side as well. If
you had anything stored in there under the false illusion of security,
you might want to move it someplace else.
Should I have asked for consensus before doing this? I was high on
adrenaline last night and I'm feeling some remorse now. If people want
me to put it back I will.
But I do really want to open up that area by taking all the walls off
and clearing out the (mostly) junk. I think it's primarily a trap for
rats, dust, cobwebs, etc. I also want to replace the staircase with a
smaller one rotated 90° to free up space for a floor drain, sink
fixtures & countertop, and to make the upcoming flooring project less
complicated in that area.
Things that need secure storage could go in the server area, in
personal lockers, or Omni storage where appropriate. Eventually I'd
like us to build a 3-story pallet rack structure with a new common
storage area. :)
PS big thanks to Null, Ian and the friendly teenager whose name I
forgot, for clearing out the area under the staircase.
Hi, just thought I'd let people know that I won't be able to make it to the
space tonight. I'm still a little foggy on how membership works these days,
but I got the impression that people might discuss my membership
application at the space if I was there. Anyway, just wanted to say I'm
happy to join the community and let me know if there's anything I need to
do.
Thanks,
Nick
Hi,'I left an oxygen concentrator behind Tuesday night and would like to

Subject: [sudo-info] sudo room laser cutter
To: info(a)sudoroom.org <info(a)sudoroom.org>
Hello! I asked some friends for recommendations on where to go to use
a laser cutter, and I was recommended Sudo Room. I'm curious about
what kind of laser cutter you have, and what I'd need to do in order
to use it.
The project I'm working on is an art project, a painting that I'm
translating into a piece with wooden inlays.
Hey Everyone!
The fire inspection was originally planned for Thursday 4/25. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday 4/23 (two days earlier). Monday will be the last day before the inspection.
If anyone needs help moving anything, I have my truck and I plan on being at Omni all day Today.

Subject: [sudo-discuss] IMPORTANT: Annual fire inspection 4/25/19
Everyone!
Omni Commons' Annual Fire Inspection for this year is scheduled for Thursday, April 25th at 3pm. The Assistant Fire Chief will be training a new inspector - this gives even more reason to make sure we are up to Fire Code Standards before they arrive. Please take some time between now and then to clean and prepare before then. We should also schedule a work party on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday that week to get everything cleared and ready.
To prepare:
* All rooms must be unlocked or unlockable. Do we have a key to the CCL closets on the master keyring?
* Ballroom must be cleared of tables and chairs, mezzanine of stray books
* Extension cords disconnected and pathways clear
* All hallways cleared of stuff and at least 3' clearance in front of any electrical panels
* Any piles of stuff should be removed and cluttered areas organized, especially if flammable
* All storage areas cleaned up a bit and flammable materials put away (mesh in sudo; phat beets, Village, CCL in basement)
* Any easily flammable furniture that has appeared in the basement (couches in particular) needs to be removed. Couches are something the fire department told us to move out of the basement during our very first inspection
* It would be great to finally finish the door into the bocce court
I will be able to be at the building that day to go on the walkthrough but anyone else can join.
Thank you!
Laura

Subject: PROPOSAL: condemn harassment
To: <consensus(a)lists.omnicommons.org>
A few Omni members, including Julio and Lynn, have been targeted over
the past few months by anonymous online harassers who are subscribing
them to nazi and marxist mailing lists. It appears to be in response
to their emails to the consensus list, indicating that the harasser is
reading our consensus list. There is even some suspicion that this
person is an Omni member.
It's probably the same person or group who trolled our meeting notes
in February: https://omnicommons.org/pipermail/consensus/2019-February/001557.html
If anybody knows anything about this, please come forward with
information. In the meantime, I think it'd be best if the Omni
community could at least come to a consensus about condemning this
harassment. Even if it seems symbolic at best, it would be a step
towards healing and would send a clear signal to the harassers that
they will not succeed in dividing us.
Can we consent on this by Thursday? Thanks.
FYI, there are tons of flies, I’ve killed about 50, there were a bunch in the hall bathroom and under the blue table at the back west wall, and they are still coming. Does anyone have any extra fly swatters that they could bring? or more of those electric ones?
Thanks,
Null
