Lost USB Memory Stick with Important files

Hello All, I lost a USB memory stick that contains very important files. On Saturday (March 14th) in the afternoon I stopped by Omni to do some computer work, but since my laptop was running out of space, I transferred a lot of files into a 32GB or 64GB (cannot remember exactly) memory stick (that later I put in my pants front small pocket), so that I could have some extra disk space. I left the OMNI about 7:00PM. I believe I may have dropped it at the time that I was looking for food at the fridge. I believe it was there, because right after getting food at the OMNI I went straight to Ed's place. It was at Ed's place when I tried to retrieve it and I realized I have lost it. When:* Mar 14-15 (Sat & Sun) @ 10am - 10pm* Where: Sudo Room in Omni Commons, 4799 Shattuck, Oakland, CA 94609 *Who says what's trash and what's worth keeping?* This will be up to the cleaning crew's judgement unless claimed and safeguarded IN PERSON (no hordes of emails saying "hey I've got a thing on this one shelf!"; though availability and mobility will obviously be considered). SO... be sure to gather any personal items before the flush! And/or be present during the flush to have a say in what gets tossed and what stays. *When is this happening?* March 14-15. We will begin assembling a 'To Be Flushed' pile on Saturday and it should ideally be disposed of on Sunday afternoon. *But I don't have anywhere to put all of my things!* sudo room is not a storage facility! Personal storage space is addressed via lockers in the back of the space. Oakland Public Library in need of digital literacy trainers

But if you don't know what it is, or how you can use it to do all sorts of cool things, then this fun and easy workshop is for you. As an example project, we'll be creating a TV-B-Gone remote control out of an Arduino you can take home with you. Summary: What: Arduino workshop for total newbies, using TV-B-Gone remote controls as an intro When: 1:00pm to 4:30pm, Sunday, March 29th Where: Noisebridge map (including where to push the buzzer) Who: Anyone and everyone can have fun learning Arduino. Good morning y'all, I am jazzed to announce that on June 29-30 the Library Freedom Project is hosting a two-day unconfernce, right on on the heels of the ALA annual conference in San Francisco. The best part: it's at Noisebridge! https://libraryfreedomproject.org/ We have all kinds of amazing folks confirmed to speak - groups like the ACLU, Hack the Hood, the Internet Archive, EFF, journalists, and of course, some incredible librarians from across the country working towards projects of social justice and political change. We need tech trainers to help work with participants to learn digital privacy tools, the way surveillance works, as well as other technology issues relevant to libraries. If you're interested in sharing your skills, please email me off-list with the following information: 1. Are you available for an hour slot in the early afternoon (say, 12-3:30) or late afternoon (3:30-7) on Monday, 6/29 or Tuesday, 6/30? We're getting started each day around 1, done by 7. 2. La Commune Stuff

Hey all! La Commune is trying to clear away stuff that's been stored back by the West wall so that we can really push forward on plans for the cafe. If you have anything stored back there, please note that it should be removed asap or it risks being thrown away. There's a compressor back there with a note on it saying not to throw it away - does anyone know where this compressor belongs? I will move it out of La Commune today and if it's not claimed by the weekend, I will make plans to get rid of it. Also - when we bought all of that metro shelving from John, La Commune paid for 4 units, I believe ($200). The other 4 were for FNB if I'm not mistaken. There's only one in La Commune right now so I'll be looking to reclaim the other three within the next couple of weeks. Just a heads up - if you've been using one of the metro shelves you may want to relocate anything being stored on it. Lastly - Door shifts! Just want to ask anyone working a door shift (and ask the folks who are coordinating these to communicate to others not on this list) to please respect the space behind the La Commune counter. Also, during the day there are usually not people here to introduce new people to the space and whoever is at the La Commune counter ends up performing this work. Most of the time it's alright but I'm wondering if maybe it makes sense to have another table or desk in the front that is the front door shift desk in order to differentiate between La Commune and the rest of the Omni? Darkroom

I intend to order some enlarging paper tomorrow for making large format and fine art x-ray photos. I've heard noise about a darkroom at the omni. Is this true? HAXLR8R incubator program

Amongst other cool things, I volunteer as a mentor for HAXLR8R, a 3-month incubator progam. Groups that are accepted into the program for their cool hardware project idea: * receive some tens of thousands of dollars in return for a small percentage of their company * live in Shenzhen China for 3 months * get workspace and access to the way cool tools at the HAXLR8R facilities * get training from a wide variety of volunteer mentors (who are professionals with diverse experience) * get help with funding and starting a business * get connected to all of the resources necessary to make their project into a real product in the market. Everything you need. It's pretty awesome. At the end of the 3 months, everyone goes to San Francisco for the big Demo Day, with lots of media attention. Many successful (and very different) products have come from HAXLR8R, including Spark, and Nomiku. If you have a project that you would like to turn into a product, and make a living doing what you love, maybe HAXLR8R could be helpful for you. The next 15 project groups (HAX 7) moves to Shenzhen (for 3 months) starting in *July*! The application deadline: *May 23*. Funding: up to *$100,000*. All nails and staples have been completely removed; some residual glue is still present. The boards are 2 1/2" wide by 3/4" thick. The lengths vary between 1 to 5 feet. Proposal: Request for sudo room financial alleviation

Greetings, Sudo Room is having some snafus with our bank, so we're currently unable to pay our shared utilities bill. We have been paying for the Omni's internet, totalling $135.93 to Sonic.net each month. For July-February, this totals $1087.44. Our current utilities bill is $255.35. Deducting our current bill from the total, this amounts to a standing debt of $832.09. While we would like to support the Omni by covering this, we are currently in a very tenuous financial position and may need to dip into this reserve. Is this amenable to the finance committee? We are planning a fundraising event, and several sudoers continue to work hard on booking and coordinating the rental of our common spaces (Omni made roughly $1000 from events this weekend). Gratitude to whoever paid a significant portion of this bill ($135) last week. Donations are hugely appreciated and really needed right now! robot arm mounted cnc + a random pan tilt w/wire harness

can i use this pan/tilt with wire harness thing I found on the workbench (it's stepper-motor driven belt system with full 360 motion )? I would like to build a 3d camera mount for the robot arm ... I'm drafting some ideas right now, I havent harmed the part, but I did remove it from the space sort of unthinkingly last night. additionally, matt showed me a cnc mill attachment in the space, so I (we?) would like to use that on the arm, too, if there's no objections. once I get some mock-ups i'll put the idea up on github and we can start integrating code!

Money for shakers?

Hi all, I had a conversation with the CEO of the Thiel foundation this weekend, and I learned that they've begun a new experiment involving the distribution of grants to organizations who are in some way changing the way things are done in this world, with favor towards STEM (undoubtedly due to Thiel's bias toward democratizing those fields). I mentioned that I've been doing my fellowship work at the Omni commons, and have described the place as it is - a haphazard collection of interesting collectives, and she took significant interest in that. Would this be a conversation the Omni fundraisers would like to continue? There could be good outcomes, given Sudo and CCL's presence and activity in the commons. (If so I'd also like to be an observer in the process, as this year I'll have to do a fundraising round of my own so any experience is valuable!) Cheers, -Adam
