Hi everyone, I think the trash and recycling has been working pretty well since mid October. Thanks are due to everyone who has dealt with Omni waste in any form! Yesterday I was told that the bins aren't always being put out on the sidewalk, however. So here is a reminder of who has agreed to do what, when. If any of this isn't working for you, please let me know and we can set up something else. *Monday afternoon/night: Food Not Bombs puts out brown and green bins for Tuesday pick up* *Wednesday afternoon/night: SudoRoom puts out blue recycling and cardboard (flattened and bundled with twine) for Thursday pick up.* *Thursday afternoon/night: Phat Beets puts out brown and green bins for Friday pick up* In general, if you see the bins are on the sidewalk and empty, please move them back into the trash room. Hasta la victoria - Laura

water leak in upstairs bathroom

by Jake

I have many times gone into the upstairs (near the shower) bathroom and found the hot water tap freely running. Every time I do, i turn off the supply valve from underneath, because the problem is that the faucet valve is not sealing and is likely continuing to run even when people shut it off. this is basic maintenance that's not happening. The cost of running hot water continuously is primarily energy, because the hot water heater is burning natural gas (or is it electricity?) to heat fresh drinking water that's then being sent down the drain. The solution is to re-valve or replace the hot water faucet in the upstairs bathroom so it shuts off properly. -jake ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2018 23:26:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Jake <jake(a)spaz.org> To: discuss(a)lists.omnicommons.org, building(a)lists.omnicommons.org Subject: water leak in upstairs bathroom i feel like i wrote this email a while ago but i'm not sure. the bathroom in the corner of the upstairs bathroom (next to the kitchen) hot water faucet is leaking, flowing openly continuously, unless it is vigorously forced off. This does not happen. when i go into that bathroom (which is not often) i see that the hot water is just flowing. Because the seal in the valve is worn out. So i turned off the service valve under the sink to turn off the water to the faulty valve. But someone else turns it back on. and then people leave the water on. Omni has probably used thousands of gallons and hundreds of dollars in water alone, not to mention the wasted energy and money of heating all that hot water that's then flowing into the sewers. I am not going to replace the valve, but i'm here to point out the problem and hopefully someone will fix it. If not, i'll block off the pipe since it's something I know how to do, but it would be a waste of effort since it needs to be repaired properly anyway. will someone please confirm they'll take care of this? -jake

by danarauz＠gmail.com

Hello All! If you are interested on reading, watching videos and photos about the Asylum Seekers Caravan, uncensored reports, please visit Jessie's Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/jessie.sandoval. The reports are also being logged here: https://asylumseekerscaravan.org. Who is Jessie Sandoval? Jessie is a sister in struggle from Nicaragua, that I met and worked with during Occupy. She went to Mexico a couple days ago in support of the Asylum Seekers sisters and brothers, and she is already sending reports on her Facebook account. Her writing is blant, poetic, unapologetic, etc. I like her writing. Before I go.. a quote from one her post from last night. " *I am not sleeping on cold hard earth, after traveling north for a month.**And yet, there's been no burning, no breaking by this migrant community*" ~Jessie Sandoval Mexico City - 2018-11-07 Thank you in advance for any support to my/our brown folks. I have Brown blood. Daniel

Failed Payment Alerts

by Jenny Ryan

Lack of email reminders to members has been an issue for awhile now. It occurred to me that perhaps this was just a Stripe setting - seems it was! So now members will be notified by email when their payment fails, and notified 1 month in advance of an expiring card. https://stripe.com/docs/receipts#failed-payment-alerts Is this problematic to anyone? CC'ing some CCL folks who've mentioned this before.
