Article: “India’s repair culture gives new life to dead tech”

by Peter Mui

Hi Sudoers: India’s repair culture gives new life to dead tech: the rise of ‘Frankenstein’ laptops in New Delhi’s repair markets “...We need to encourage such reuse of materials. These repaired or new hybrid devices minimize waste by extending a product’s lifespan and reducing overall market waste. Reusing components cuts down on the need for new materials, lowering energy use, resource extraction, and environmental impact,...”” https://www.theverge.com/tech/639126/india-frankenstein-laptops Doesn’t this seem like what we’re doing at Sudo Room? Sincerely, -Peter

Tools for a Not-for-Profit from Friends of the Oakland Tool Lending Library

by Peter Mui

Hi Sudoers: See the message below from our dear friend Jack at the Friends of the Oakland Tool Lending Library: can you help them find a home for this windfall? Email Jack directly. Great seeing everyone at last night's visioning exercise, -Peter -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Passthrough Donation of Tools? Date: Wed, 2 Apr 2025 19:23:54 +0000 (UTC) From: Jack Soares <jacksoares(a)sbcglobal.net> Peter-- FOTLL has come into a large tool donation in Kensington. It includes a table saw, router table, and bench grinder. FOTLL's storage space is already overflowing. We'd be happy to pass some of this windfall along to another nonprofit. The East Bay German International School has first dibs for their planned Makers Space. Do any of the aforementioned tools strike your fancy for immediate delivery -- today or tomorrow? Onward and upward... --Jack.

Omni Gathering Rescheduled + Reminder of Request for Input

by Valerie Jameson

Happy Monday everyone! I want to provide an update that we will be pushing back tomorrows building gathering to the following Tuesday, April 1st from 5:30-7 pm (see the attached flyer) Please encourage as many past and present Omni members to attend! In light of this change, I will also be extending office hours [SIGN UP HERE <https://calendly.com/valerie-thecalli/30min>] for this week so that we can get as much input on the Building Rules as possible. If those times lots don't work for you but you are interested in meeting or going over the document via phone I am amenable to that. Please tell all of your participants and group members to submit a response through the FEEDBACK FORM <https://forms.gle/hEJhREnduWD4im8L8>. You do not have to submit your name and email address if you don't feel comfortable and would prefer to be anonymous. I welcome feedback in all forms and want to help meet people where they are. If there are opportunities to outreach about the feedback form and upcoming gathering at your groups upcoming events please let me know. Note that after this review process once any updated edits are made, the Building Rules will be going into effect. While there will be annual reviews and edits may arise when major changes come up, this is still the ideal timeframe to voice your perspective and engage with the content before it starts getting implemented. I look forward to hearing and seeing more input come through. Are we having any monthly sudoRoom meetings? I'd like to propose one before our super late Tuesday events-- it can be short and sweet!

by Romy Ilano

Are we having any monthly sudoRoom meetings? I'd like to propose one before our super late Tuesday events-- it can be short and sweet! we could have a "tea" or a potluck and it could be cut short to about an hour. For me I'd prefer anything that isn't sitting and something as in person and not remotely run as possible! ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com
