Monday night ideas - Persian AI Tea - Women don't -have- to use AI but a lot fewer are knowledgeable about it than men!

by Romy Ilano

I have been reading articles that women in general use AI tools much less than men. I don't think that people =have= to use it, but at AI meetups, unless people are already research scientists, I'm just seeing a lot fewer women and non-binary folks. I guess this would be a good theme for a casual, non stressful "let's catch up with AI" (again it is not something to push people ot use these tool but to be aware) I will try to schedule some during the women and non-binary night or right before the SudoRoom Hardware Hack night (a 6:30-7:45pm session would be really great for us early risers) - https://www.library.hbs.edu/working-knowledge/women-are-avoiding-using-arti… <https://www.library.hbs.edu/working-knowledge/women-are-avoiding-using-arti…> - Why are fewer women using AI? https://www.bbc.com/news/business-67217915 ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

Suggestions for programmable display

by Juliana A

Hey Sudo Room! I'm in search of some suggestions, I'd like to build something that would give me a visual cue for when to water my plants (I have other similar needs as well, all related to how bad my memory is😂). You could say I could set an alarm on my phone, but I'd like to set a tiny display near my plants, that would go red when it's time to water my plants and green when I reset it after watering my plants. Probably need to code it to go red after 3 days or so. Need something small, I thought maybe this MicroBit can be a good option https://microbit.org/ Do we have one of these available at SudoRoom by chance? Anyways, open to other ideas as well before I commit to that! -- julianaferreira(a)gmail.com she/her

New blog post: our second darkmode - everything old is new again!

by Romy Ilano

https://sudoroom.org/second-darkmode-whats-old-is-new-again/ go tot he website to see the videos! OUR SECOND DARKMODE FRIDAY WAS QUIETER AND MORE INTIMATE, FOCUSING ON “TRADITIONAL” ART FORMS OF DANCE AND PUPPETRY WITH BALINESE MUSIC, INDIAN ODISSI, AND THE ALVIN AILEY DANCE TROUPE We had a more chill second DarkMode this March with projectors set up, but it was pretty cool to focus on smaller themes with a smaller group of people. What happened in this version was less anime, weird LEDs, and instead chose more “traditional” performances to project onto the walls. It’s interesting how different the psychological effect is when the screens are less “square” and dancers appear all over the space on top of graffiti and equipment instead of a big white rectangle. We got chills down our spines projecting the classic “Revelations” <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDXerubF4I4> by the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. <https://ailey.org/> We would like to also bring more involvement with the dance community, and viewing dance at SudoRoom! There is something special about watching Odissi performed by the talented Sujata Mohapatra <https://sujatamohapatra.org/> on the walls we usually weld, solder and program in. <https://sudoroom.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_7124.jpeg> What happens when your hackerspace becomes the stage in itself and absorbs the spirituality of the dancers before you? <https://sudoroom.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_7186-1.jpeg> Alvin Ailey is soooo good! ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com
