We need a SudoRoom wiki page on trains. Many members are huge train
enthusiasts, taking the Capitol Corridor to work on the South Bay or the
Caltrain. A lot of SudoRoom members regularly Amtrak their way to hacker
conferences all over the country!
Nerds are fierce bike and Caltrain advocates in Silicon Valley, and they
are known to pelt well meaning but surprised officials with elaborate
spreadsheets explaining the lower cost per rider of a bike train place than
a parking spot place. It'd be …
[View More]cool to see more hacker advocacy, as local
trains have increased service this year on the Amtrak due to higher
ridership.
Preliminary Wondering[edit

]
- How do trains work?
- Are trains still hackable?
- What ever happened to model trains building and collecting? How will
we live with ourselves until the 2019, when the model train section
<http://www.deutsches-museum.de/en/exhibitions/transport/model-railway/> of
the Deutsches Museum is open for the public again?
- Will the USA ever get the gleaming speed trains being put up with
blinding speed in China?
- Has anyone ever tried to illegally hack together a new railways system
in some kind of squatter/burning man area or interesting part of town?
- Some people are building handmade railcars to explore abandoned
railway systems at the TechShop - Neat!

Hey Sudoers,
I came by Sudo Room Wednesday and dropped off a donation of 13 Mac Minis!
They were donated by Liz from Mozilla. Some other hackerspaces also got some including Noisebridge.
Specs: mid-2010 model, Core 2 Duo cpu, 4 or 8GB RAM, 320 GB HD (wiped clean), DVD-RW drive, HDMI video out.
They are missing power cables (but they're standard and power is built-in).
They'll work with the latest Mac OS - just need to be installed. Or you can install Linux.

Hey everyone,
I'm excited about Hardware hack night. I'm continuing my connected car hack
(using the automatic API) so I can track my car and do fun experiments:
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Movement
I'm going to focus on completing a project and having something to present
by the next meeting, and giving tips on how I did it.
In the future I'd like to:
- Encourage people who drive cars to exercise more
- Find ways to enable people to ride the Amtrack more by make tools that
solve …
[View More]the last mile problem, since we sorely need more rail in the East Bay
- explore topics around hacking wheelchairs.
Best,
Romy

How do we feel about paper towel dispensers at the Omni? Are we
intentionally doing without, to save some trees? Are people worried the
paper towel roll will get stolen? Or have we just not bothered putting any
up yet?
I'm planning to get one for our lab sink in CCL, but I'd love to have one
in each bathroom at the Omni.
Touchless towel dispensers start at $25 at Office Depot. There's probably
better places to get them too...
Patrik
PS: Ditto for wall-mounted soap dispensers...

Hello Mike, not sure if you have been contacted regarding your application,
but I am forwarding to our main discussion email.
I hope someone would reply to you soon! And if you hear or not from anyone,
I highly recommend that you stop by Sudoroom and introduce yourself, and

Hello Barrett,
(I am not sure if this email is spam or legit. I hope is the second one.)
I don't know about how you can get funds for your book, and I am not sure
if members of Sudoroom can help you either, since that is not necessarily
in our mission.
However, I am forwarding your email to our main discuss list, and if you
would like to provide more information on a second email, please do, so I
can forward that one as well.
Good luck!
