India had no cases of Polio this year. That's pretty damn awesome!
A toast to modern medicine, policy makers and healthcare workers!

#Jan25: 3 years later. An educational day long program on #Egypt
https://www.facebook.com/events/424246587705844/
Dear friends and supporters,
As many of you probably know, the third anniversary of the Egyptian revolution is coming soon less than 2 weeks from now.
We are hosting a full day educational program to mark the anniversary of the ongoing Egyptian revolution, it's a collaboration between me and local organizers and supporters here in the San Fransisco Bay area.
In Egypt, the 25th of Jan this year is going to be a day of action against the continuity of military rule and the atrocities committed by the coup regime.
The program will start from 3 pm and will be all night long until the last person leaves, so you're welcome to stop by any time!
Program details will include but not restricted to:
-Film screening of rare footage highlighting different stages of the Egyptian struggle. -Skype conversations with Egyptians in Egypt and abroad to hear their perspective on the situation.
- A talk by Shimaa Helmy, an eyewitness to the Egyptian movement who's currently in Oakland, CA.
- An open forum and a Q/A session on the state of affairs in Egypt since 2011 and up to date.
Other activities will be included soon and added to the event page here:
https://www.facebook.com/events/424246587705844/
The event is hosted by the Sudo Room hacker space
2141 Broadway St, Oakland, California 94612
I'm not sure for how long I will be in the US and I'm trying to do as much as I can here before I have to go back home.
I will appreciate it if you came by or at least spread the word about the event.
Much appreciation,
Shimaa Helmy

Hey folks,
Berkeley Copwatch is in need of a new police radio scanner! It seems
that the police department has switched frequencies/gone digital and
their old scanner doesn't work anymore.
Does anyone know anything about police radio/scanners and would want to
have a conversation with me about them? Anyone know anything about some
of the sdr options available and whether or not we could realistically
hack something that would be effective?
Any help is great!
Max
Hey everyone,
I'm starting this course called appacademy at the end of the month and some
people who are attending want to study some ruby quizes together. I have
proposed sudoroom as a location and meeting up around 6pm, is that ok?
This may happen a few times over the next two weeks before our class
starts.
Thanks!

Tonight at Sudo Room from 6:30-8pm:
Join the GETit Project and Counter Culture Labs for a beginning class
on molecular cloning. We will cover the use of online tools to acquire
genetic sequences, go through the process of designing primers and
vector selection, and start designing cloning experiments to be
conducted for the GETit Project. We hope to eventually take the front
end work we’re doing here and bring the class into the laboratory to
perform their own cloning experiments!

Hey all, I've been working to revive the space program at noisebridge and
will be heading over there this evening if anyone is interested. One of the
projects I'm thinking of is experimenting with ways to integrate with mesh
and potentially use weather balloon lofted radios for popping up nodes for
events or emergencies.
There's boxes of balloons & circuits and a couple of big 'ole tanks of
helium.
Sincerely,
Chief Space Cadet

Hi everyone! Just a quick reminder that we are having a Machine Learning
meetup at Noisebridge in the Church room (Northeast corner classroom), at
7pm this Thursday, January 16th. There will be a class targeted towards
beginners to machine learning. Very basic programming knowledge, like using
variables, arrays, and loops, would be helpful.
The schedule will go something like this:
7:00pm - 7:30pm
Project Talks, and SAGE and ebook distribution - People interested in
presenting ideas for projects can stand up and share their ideas for
projects to find collaborators. USB keys with SAGE and machine learning
resources will be handed out for installation.
7:30pm - 8:30pm
Project people can break off and continue collaborating. For beginners and
all other interested parties, I'll give an interactive tutorial on
regression via SAGE worksheets and the projector.
Hope to see you there! If you're interested in getting a head start:

P.S. The intro classes will be recurring, probably every 1-1.5 months, so
don't freak out if you can't make it! I will also consider teaching the
intro class on a weekend if there is enough demand. If you're interested in
helping out to teach or create course material please contact me or solicit
the mailing list(s).
