Hey all,
I wanted to reach out for some feedback. Seeking folks who would want to
facilitate or participate in a men's group.
I've previously participated in small groups like this and found them
beneficial for various reasons. I would like to see if folks have had
similar or different experiences.
The way I'm thinking about this would culminate in something like a regular
meeting for men in the sudo room community to discuss relevant issues
including those of identity, oppression, privilege, patriarchy, gender,
sexuality, stereotypes, safe space, and mutual support.
This may not be the best or even a viable path to approach these topics,
but I wanted to throw it out there to see if there is any interest.

New subject: Call for Facilitators / Participants in a sudo Men's Group
As I see it - or perhaps I am wanting to see it this way - this Men's
group's purpose would be to combat mindlessly performing inculcated
patriarchal motions. And in the process of de-conditioning yourself as a
"man", becoming a convincing, subtle and non-naggy argument for other men
to do the same. Slowly doing what we can do restore a gender equitable
society, from our side (while knowing that we can't do it ourselves, that's
the sort of thinking that got us here in the first place).
So a thousand yeses to all of the above. But how do we do it? In person
meetings? Too self selecting. Online? Not visible enough. Making a charter?
Toothless. Doing volunteer work? Pointless doting.
Here's my suggestion, and I'm open to more. Be radical sudo men.
Do your dishes, and smash the platetriarchy.

Something that might be fruitful is creating a list of resources and
readings that are more easily digestible by geek men in particular, and of
course humans in general. I'm cc'ing Tom from Noisebridge, who's been
organizing a feminist book group for men at Noisebridge over the past
couple of months.

I watched a video of a past workshop and it was really useful. I didn't
realize about how you make somebody aware that you don't like their sexist
behaviour and then drop it and move on. They also mentioned about how to
utilize "Charle's rules for arguments" to not get too involved in arguing.

New subject: Call for Facilitators / Participants in a sudo Men's Group
has there been any development on the sudo men's group meetings? i'm quite
interested in participating, but was hoping to learn more about the direction you guys are
taking.
relatedly, i was at the RightsCon discussion today about "Ending Violence Against
Women Online: No One's Liability, Everyone's Responsibility". very intriguing
to learn about how there are two tracks being pushed by the leaders in this space
internationally - one focused on gender neutral safe space concepts and one focused on
gender inclusivity in current online platforms. i think with matt & max's
leadership, there's a great deal that sudo men can contribute to these important
developments.

I watched a video of a past workshop and it was really useful. I didn't
realize about how you make somebody aware that you don't like their sexist
behaviour and then drop it and move on. They also mentioned about how to
utilize "Charle's rules for arguments" to not get too involved in arguing.
Your allow to make your point, and one clarification, and then you don't
argue any more.

Hello 6 year old thread!
I believe that the idea of a sudo room "Men confronting Patriarchy" group
never took off, but I think there is a way to move forward now. In the last
year I have been part of another local group "STAND
<http://standbayarea.com/>" which I really believe in. STAND is a group of
people who benefit from white, male privilege in the Bay Area engaging in
movements for racial, gender, and economic justice. Here are the details of
an upcoming workshop of theirs which I hope some sudo members can make:
