Proposal: At this Tuesday's Hardware and SoftWEAR Hack Night: can we put
some energy into improving the front door bell / buzzer / video system
so we can make Omni Commons more welcoming? A first step: move the
existing bell further back in the lobby so it can sound louder in
Sudoroom and in the media lab? -Peter

how about we put a phone number out there that rings on a phone in sudoroom?
stopwaste asked me to do that anyway. I think that would be better than going
out there answering the doorbell all night, mostly people are ringing the bell
not for sudoroom i think.

I've been helping building the hardware for the front door access for years
and I prefer to volunteer that effort rather than pay money for stuff like
what you linked. But if we wanted something like that, I think we could
build it pretty easily with stuff we already have laying around.
What I'm hoping for with a phone number is to make it so that people can
call from their own phones to get to sudoroom, so that even if they can't
find the front door but they have the number from the meetup website, they
can call and get guidance to find us and then get in the proper door.
I'm concerned that a video link system like what you linked would be more
trouble than it would help with...otherwise would could build one.

Oh cool - too new to know what materials are around. I dont have the experience at all, so
I typically try to modify existing setups ... if I were to attempt it. Definitely agree
that it could be a mess.
Im currently working with CCL, so it would be nice for any of the rooms to be able to
connect to the main door and remotely let someone in. Video probably not necessary, but
could be nice. Ive been that person outside repeatedly pressing all the buttons on the
door. hehe
