I asked this question some weeks ago, posting again here; is there doc we
can see SudoRoom finances in general (how much $ in memberships/ donations,
etc).
Last time I checked humans.sudoroom.org it seems only members have access
to finances. Is there anywhere else a non-member could check that info? I
think it'd be interesting to have for transparency's sake.
Either way, as I mentioned in my last msg, I'd like to apply for a
membership, so let me know how to do that.

Actually, as a member I have no idea how to access finances either.
Can anyone else answer the following questions?
Where do member donations get donated? Does Sudo Room have a bank account?
Who has access to it?
Do we spend money? Who can spend money from that account?

Sudoroom has a bank account at UNIFY (https://www.unifyfcu.com). It is
a "subaccount" of Omni Commons and right now can only be accessed
using Omni's web login, which also gives access to all of Omni's other
accounts and fiscally sponsored projects. I'm sure there's probably a
better way, but unify has not been very flexible with things in the
past.
The current "signers" for Sudoroom's bank account are Robb Benson (who
quit sudoroom in 2019), Mai Sutton (who moved to LA in 2020), John
Torok (former Omni treasurer who resigned earlier this year) and Jenny
Ryan. Unfortunately, this list cannot be changed unless we get all
those people at a branch location together at the same time.
All of Omni's other bank accounts are in a similar mess.
It would be great to sort out a system where Sudoroom has independent
access to its money. Unfortunately, Sudoroom has never really had any
extra money to spend and has been in near continuous debt to Omni
since moving in 2014. If Sudoroom ever had a single penny that wasn't
needed to cover its monthly payments of $2k to Omni, the logistics of
accessing that penny would be a great problem to solve.

Thanks for all the info Yardena. I have another question, so my employer
can match donations, i was able to find Omni commons as an org to donate
over there but not sudoroom. So is that becauise sudoroom is not an
official non-profit? Wondering if there’s a way to donate over there to
Omni c but make it part of sudoroom “rent”. For those not familar, my
employer would match 100% my donation, so if I donate $50, it would be
$100, so I really wanted to use this.

I think we need to hold a board election. It seems like there are certain
things that we can do effectively without a central figure, but there are
others — especially banking — that really do require some kind of
designated responsibility.
Is anyone interested in running for any positions( especially treasurer)?
I’m not sure what position I would be best suited for (on the board or
otherwise) but if people are willing to take on the responsibilities I’m
willing to commit my time and effort to helping them so that it’s not all
on their shoulders.

Great question Juliana! I'm not sure if we have anything set up like
this for recurring donations. Omni is about to hire a new bookkeeper
who would be able to set up systems to keep track of these things. For
now, the best approach is probably to just donate to omni and then
email finance(a)omnicommons.org to say "I want this to go towards
sudoroom". We can then make sure it's deducted from sudo's balance.
