Does anyone happen to have a 208V transformer sitting around, or know where
to best get one?
We have a new (old) centrifuge that requires 14A @ 208V. We currently have
it plugged in to our spare 230-240V outlet. Most equipment can handle +/-
10% of rated voltage, but that is likely decrease its lifespan over the
long term.
For the unenlightened, 208V is two phases of a 3-phase system. We have the
more usual 2x120V circuit instead. See

Measure the voltage at the outlet. I might be closer to 208 than you expect.

Good point - that would depend on how far from a distribution station we
are. However voltage can also fluctuate during the day, and a nominal 240V
two-phase circuit is allowed to go as high as 252V...

you can use a 32 volt transformer (24v is easier to find) in series with the
240v to get a lower voltage.

If you have 2.5kVA, that means that you draw about 12A. So the 24V
transformer should be able to deal with about 12A current.
Then put the output in series with the 240V output. If the sum
measures 264V, turn the polarity to get 216V.

240v to get a lower voltage.
Wait - how would that work? Also note that we need around 2.5kVA...
