A friend of mine who sews semi-professionally mentioned that an
exceptionally beefy sewing machine is available at the estate sale place by
Jack London / 4th near Broadway (this one:
http://www.somethingtosellabout.com/home.html) for $175 as of a few days
ago.
She'd split the cost with a few of us if we could put it in sudo room and
make it available. I'd also split the cost with 3-4+ people.
I won't be able to go down to see if it's still there, gather more detailed
info, and plan transportation to sudo room if appropriate until Saturday at
the earliest.
With or without me, and asap, would anyone like to get involved as a
co-investor, detective, or sewing machine transport specialist?

New subject: heavy duty sewing machine of some sort available near sudo room
Could someone who knows more about industrial strength sewing machines be
able to go check it out as soon as possible? If this machine is able to sew
leather, I'd be more than happy to pitch in as well.
In fact, if it looks good, let's just get it! Between Anthony, his friend,
myself, and whomever else at sudoroom, scraping $175 together should not be
a problem.

I don't think I'm available tomorrow at all to help with securing it, but I
can pledge $40 towards the purchase of the machine, assuming it is a useful
one.
There are lots of kinds of industrial sewing machines; each machine is
built specific for one function, and does it extremely well.
Ideal for thicker leather would be a 'walking foot' machine; i'd love one
of those! A single-needle or straight-stitch (most basic or 'normal' sewing
machine) would be super useful too, and can be used for some leather
projects. Even industrial zigzag would be fun.
Sewing machine transport tip: if it is full of oil, drain and reserve the
oil.

Needless to say - if one of the non-experts could pop over and take some
pictures, that would help as well! At least that way someone better
informed could at least verify it's a type that would be useful (if not
whether it's *working*...)
